Hey ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America with breaking news
0:05
A top Democrat Senator has died, leaving a vacancy in the Senate, while the Democrats
0:12
still hold a razor-thin majority. Folks, before we get started, I do want to tell you to please like, comment, share, and subscribe
0:21
I know I ask that a lot, but it does help keep these videos free
0:25
A quick hit of that like button, a quick hit of that share button, makes a world of difference
0:30
We just received word that 90-year-old Democrat California Senator Dianne Feinstein has died
0:38
We don't know the details of the death yet. We don't know the cause of death yet, although at age 90, one can speculate, she has had
0:45
a myriad of health crises in the past few years. This does, of course, bring up a lot of things when you have, you know, people currently
0:55
campaigning for her seat. Who is, you know, who is Gavin Newsom going to put in that spot
1:01
Because if he puts one of the people who are campaigning for that spot currently, let's
1:05
say an Adam Schiff, in that seat, it's going to be hard to unseat that person
1:13
So he'd basically be picking a winner and a loser in the Democrat primary
1:18
Because look, a Democrat's going to win this thing unless something crazy happens
1:22
It's California. But he could be picking winners and losers by putting somebody in that spot
1:28
Or he could take the safe route and put somebody who's not campaigning for that spot in that
1:34
spot as a placeholder until the Democrat primary and, you know, the election actually shakes
1:41
out, which I think would be the appropriate thing to do. Whoever wins the Democrat primary, 99.8% chance they're going to be the Senator from California
1:52
He's now the junior Senator from California. Dianne Feinstein was the senior Senator from California
1:59
How this shakes out in the next couple of weeks is going to be something to keep an
2:04
eye on. But right now, as it stands, the Democrats, Feinstein has not been replaced
2:11
The Democrats are down a seat. It's essentially a tie in the Senate right now
2:15
So the balance of power for the time being has shifted. That will, of course, change as soon as a Senator is named to that seat
2:26
So for right now, it's just something we have to keep an eye on. Dianne Feinstein, like her or not, like her policies or not, I know if you're watching
2:34
this channel, if you're watching me, we're not a fan of her policies
2:38
Like it or not, she was a trailblazer, especially for women in the Senate
2:43
She did a lot of great things for the Democrats and she pushed a lot of the Democrat agenda
2:49
So for the Democrats, she was definitely a giant in the Senate
2:54
And like I said, like her or not, she accomplished a lot and she paved a way for people who didn't
3:02
think a woman could be a Senator, who just dismissed women in general
3:08
She changed things in that regard. Obviously, I was not a fan of her policies, but I think at a time like this, it's a time
3:18
to reflect. It's a time to offer prayers for her soul and prayers for her family that they get through
3:25
this difficult time. Even at the age of 90, if you've ever lost a parent or a grandparent, the age doesn't
3:31
really matter. It's just a very hard thing. And so I think that we all say, may she rest in peace, and then we offer our prayers and
3:38
our condolences to the Feinstein family. It will be very interesting to see how Newsom, who has been trying to move to the center
3:47
as he prepares what is probably a 2028 presidential campaign, in my opinion
3:54
It's going to be very interesting to see how he plays this out because this will help to
3:59
define him in a major way within the Democrat party, but within the United States body politic
4:05
as well. So there's a lot for him on the line here as well, and it's going to be very interesting
4:10
to watch. With that being said, I want to thank you again for joining us here at Explain America
4:15
Again, it is important to hit that like and that share button, also to comment and to subscribe
4:21
It's really important, guys. We really do appreciate it. May Senator Dianne Feinstein rest in peace, and may the Lord give her family peace and comfort
4:30
In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen. I'm Carmine Sabia. This is Explain America
4:36
We love you guys. God bless you. Take care, everybody. Bye-bye
