Alec Baldwin's defense against involuntary manslaughter charges has more holes than Swiss
0:06
cheese, folks. And we're about to get into it right here on Explain America. I'm your host
0:12
Carmine Sabia. I want to thank you for joining us for another edition of Explain America
0:16
Please make sure you like, you comment, you share, and you subscribe. Also, please make sure
0:22
you follow us at Explain America on Facebook. These are very important things that you can do
0:27
to help the channel and conservative media grow. We really appreciate it. Baldwin, however
0:34
may not appreciate it because he probably doesn't want people to hear this kind of stuff. He issued a press release after he was charged with involuntary manslaughter, and he blamed
0:45
everybody but himself. So he called it a miscarriage of justice. He said as an actor
0:50
and here's a key word here, as an actor, he had no reason to believe there were live
0:57
rounds in the firearm that killed cinematographer Helena Hutchins. Now, in a number of ways, this differs from, well, let's start, it differs from his previous defense
1:09
which was he never pulled the trigger. He didn't say that in this press release because the FBI
1:13
has concluded the trigger was pulled, and the district attorney has concluded that the trigger
1:18
was pulled. That aside, the district attorney also said that she spoke to many Hollywood
1:24
celebrities, including A-list actors, who said that they always check the gun or have somebody
1:30
check the gun in front of them before they use the gun on set to make sure there's no live rounds
1:35
I mean, after what happened to Brandon Lee, you can never be too careful, and that was a long time
1:39
ago. But even that is not the crux of Baldwin's defense and why it's so shoddy. Baldwin said in
1:50
the press release through his attorney, as an actor, but Baldwin was not just an actor, he was
1:56
a producer, therefore making him responsible for what happens on the set of the movie. So he's not
2:03
just acting in an actor's capacity here, he's acting also in a producer's capacity. That opens
2:10
him up to possible more legal liability. Now he's already facing the potential of 18 months in prison
2:17
if convicted on these charges. There's a chance he can get convicted and not do any prison time
2:23
There's a chance, of course, that he'll be found innocent. As always, people are innocent until
2:28
proven guilty. But, and I wish he would extend that to President Trump, but he doesn't. But
2:35
his defense, like I said, it appears to be already changing. And that's problematic
2:41
for the actor-producer. Because you're going to have to, people, your words, you know
2:47
can and will be used against you, right? He's going to have to take these words to court
2:51
and they're going to say, okay, well, as an actor, maybe you weren't responsible, but as a producer
2:54
were you responsible? And what happened to you? You didn't pull the trigger. That defense suddenly vanished. So what's that about? Baldwin's got a tough road ahead of him
3:03
and the family of Helena Hutchins actually celebrated the news that somebody's going to
3:07
be held accountable. Somebody's going to be held responsible for what happened to their beloved
3:13
wife and mother and daughter. So, you know, this is going to be a case to watch for quite a while
3:20
here, for a long time to come. I think a lot of people were stunned that he was even charged
3:24
including myself. So again, this is going to be an interesting case to watch. In any event
3:29
you can hear all about it here at Explain America. We'll be covering it. So please, again, make sure
3:35
you like, you comment, you subscribe, and you share. And we really want to read your comments
3:39
on this. Was he overcharged? Was he undercharged? Should he have not been charged? Let us know what
3:44
you think. Also, guys, again, please follow us at Explain America on Facebook. And we love you guys
3:50
God bless you. Take care, everybody
