The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS
0:28
Even the name sounds quick. Sounds like it could maybe even set some new records around our favourite racetrack in North Wales
0:36
Most of the headlines you'll probably be aware of already. Like the fact it's powered by a 4 litre flat 6 engine that revs to 9,000 rpm and produces just a whisker less than 500 bhp
0:50
You'll know too that it weighs not a lot more than 1,400 kilograms and comes on a set of sticky Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres as standard
0:58
And if you've already read the small print, you'll know too that its all-round wishbone suspension is fully adjustable
1:05
And that in this case, Porsche GB's technicians have deliberately dialed out the understeer
1:11
to make the front end as sharp as possible. And who cares what happens at the back
1:17
But what you won't know is just how quick it is around the coastal track at Anglesey
1:23
So let's find out. So to get the best out of the GT4 RS speed wise
1:29
because that is what this vid's all about, how fast is it around Anglesey where it gonna end up in our leaderboard lap table There a fair bit of stuff a fair few toys that you need to play with I have been mucking about with it a bit and it is quicker if you put the dampers in stiff in sports basically
1:50
It is also quicker if you press that little button down there and this little button down there to turn the ESC and the TC off
1:58
the really interesting bit is when you press the pdk sport button because i'm going to show you this
2:06
you don't have even though you've got paddles and a brilliant pdk gearbox that shifts manually
2:12
beautifully you don't need to do anything with the paddles it will work it out for you
2:16
watch i'm in fourth gear not touching the paddles i'm just going to break
2:22
how cool is that that's just gone from fourth to second well via third just like that because it's
2:34
sensed that i'm braking it makes it works out the road speed it puts you in the right gear for
2:41
whichever corner you are attacking it's pretty awesome i still prefer to shift manually because
2:49
this one place out onto the star finish straight where I like to short shift and obviously the
2:54
PDK Sport is very very clever but it's not quite that clever. Driving sideways is never the quickest
3:01
way to go in any car but definitely not in this thing but it will do it
3:13
Kind of beautifully if you want to that noise is just potty
3:24
feels like my eardrums are gonna burst anyway yeah it will go sideways very very sideways in
3:32
second gear, third gear, fourth gear, fifth gear. It's faster if you run over the kerbs
3:39
but it does kind of bounce around a bit. Plus, the suspension is adjustable on these things
3:44
And I've asked Porsche GB to make it as pointy as possible, because you don't want to unsteer
3:50
anywhere around this track. And if that means you have to deal with a little bit of oversteer
3:54
manage the oversteer, fine. I'm happy with that. I want the front end to be where I want it to be
4:00
not just washing wide with understeer so all that's in place the only thing that's not in place
4:06
is my lid so i'm going to put that on and we are going to get the stopwatch out
5:13
That's a pretty sharp time for the GT4 RS
5:36
than the one we recorded on the 992 GT3 PDK due purely to the fact that the GT4 RS is that much
5:44
smaller and more agile and just suits the twists and turns of the Anglesey Coastal that much better
5:51
Either way it shows that you don't need massive horsepower to dip below the magic 1 minute 13
5:58
second barrier although with a bit more poke and a bit more grip which will come with the rumoured
6:03
RSR version, who knows how quick it will eventually go. In the meantime, what a car
6:10
and what a way to say goodbye to the mighty flat-six engine in the back of a mid-engined Porsche
