Hario Pegasus vs V60: Which Coffee Dripper To Buy?
Apr 8, 2026
It Smells Better Than It Tastes — a quiet coffee newsletter where I share what I'm learning about coffee, curiosity, and daily rituals. This channel is an extension of that space: https://www.itsmellsbetterthanittaste.com/
Let's talk about the Hario Pegasus dripper and why it's probably staying in my cupboard. If you're deciding between the Pegasus and the V60, this honest review will save you time and money on your coffee journey.
The Pegasus works fine for brewing coffee, but it falls short where it matters most: versatility. The filter fit is awkward with standard Hario papers, the two-hole design creates uneven drainage, and the conical shape sits oddly between cone and flat-bottom brewers without committing to either. Most importantly, if you already own a V60, the Pegasus offers nothing new. If you don't own a V60, skip the Pegasus and get that instead.
The V60 remains the best gateway dripper for exploring coffee brewing. It's the same price, offers more paper filter options, works with countless recipes, and gives you room to grow. The Pegasus limits your exploration when you should be expanding it. Sometimes the answer isn't new gear—it's maximizing what already works.
What coffee brewer sits unused in your cupboard? Drop a comment and let's talk about the gear that actually earns counter space versus the stuff we thought we needed.
