Hario Mugen vs V60: Is the "One Pour" Actually Different?
Apr 12, 2026
It Smells Better Than It Tastes — a quiet coffee newsletter where I share what I'm learning about coffee, curiosity, and daily rituals. This channel is an extension of that space: https://www.itsmellsbetterthanittaste.com/
Is the Hario Mugen Dripper something you actually need, or has Hario pulled a fast one on the coffee world? I put both drippers head-to-head using the same recipe, same grind, and same pour technique to find out if the Mugen really brews a better cup than the classic V60.
In this video, I run a 1:20 ratio brew on both the Hario V60 and the Hario Mugen Dripper, measure TDS and extraction on each cup, taste them side by side, and share what the numbers actually say. Spoiler: Hario threw us all for a loop.
Hario V60 vs Mugen Dripper: key design differences explained
Same ratio, same coffee, same pour — two different drippers
TDS and extraction measured and compared live
Tasting notes: sweetness, acidity, and body side by side
The real question: do you need to upgrade your coffee gear?
What this experiment means for your coffee brewing journey
If you already own a Hario V60, this video might just save you some money — or at least make you think twice before reaching for another dripper. Drop a comment below: do you own the Mugen Dripper? Are you considering it? What's your go-to pour over brewer right now?
