So let's talk about shoes in BMX
0:02
If you're riding your bike, bikes have cranks, they have sprockets, they have pedals
0:06
they have a lot of things that can hit your feet, and I think it's important to keep your feet protected
0:10
If you're not Trey Jones, you're probably gonna be riding your bike with shoes, but you might be wondering what shoes are best
0:15
and what shoes you should get for riding BMX. You need to consider grip, you need to consider protection
0:20
you need to consider a lot of things. And so in this video, I'm gonna answer a question from the Discord
0:24
and kind of discuss some of my favorite shoes and why. Let's get right into it
0:28
So Billy from the Discord says, is the van slip-on BMX is good
0:33
I was planning to buy one of these or maybe someone else can recommend some shoes
0:37
So Billy's considering the van slip-on shoes and I think this is a bad idea
0:41
Let me explain why. When I ride my bike, even with shoelaces and non-slip-on shoes, sometimes I crash
0:47
and my shoe comes off, okay? So wearing shoes that naturally slip on or slip off
0:52
seems like a really bad idea to keep your feet protected. But I will show you my favorite shoes for riding BMX
0:58
are going to be these. They're really beat up. These are the Kevin Peraza Vans 114 series. They're
1:02
BMX specific. They have the Pop Kush internals. I need to buy some more. God, these are beat up
1:07
And they're a little bit too bulky for me, but I like that they're extra padded up here. They give
1:12
me some ankle protection. They give me some protection here on my feet for tail whips. And
1:16
yeah, they're good. They've been through a lot though. The grip is starting to wear down as you
1:20
can see. But these are my favorite for protection. So if I'm riding hard, I'm doing double tail
1:25
I'm doing three whips. I'm doing doing 540s. I'm doing those bigger tricks
1:29
I want to have these shoes on because it's I've got a higher chance of getting hurt
1:33
And so wearing shoes like that keeps me protected now if I'm just cruising I'm just flowing. I'm not doing any real tricks
1:39
I really like these Vans Ave Pro shoes. These are green ones, but you can see this is
1:45
Incredibly light. It's like paper thin right here. The side here is paper thin the grips really good and they're very lightweight
1:51
so it feels like I not wearing anything Probably not as much as slip would feel like but they feel really good for just flying around They lightweight I like them Now I was riding those shoes the Vans Av shoes a few days ago and I was doing opposite tail whips and I kick around an opposite tail whip
2:06
and I land it after like four tries, but my feet came together and I smacked my foot on the sprocket
2:12
and my foot is still bruised. I really bruised my foot bad doing the tail whips in the Vans Avs
2:17
and I was really wishing I had those other Vans on when I was doing them. So you've really got to
2:21
consider what your type of riding is. If you're not doing tailwhips, you're not doing things that
2:26
are going to hurt your feet, you're not going to hit your feet on stuff, then it's fine to just wear
2:29
something lightweight. The slip-ons might be fine. There's a handful of pro street riders that ride
2:34
slip-ons and they're totally fine. It matches their style of riding and they like it. They like it
2:39
because it's comfortable. They don't want big bulky shoes. So if you're like me and you like to do
2:43
tricks, you like to ride skate parks, then something bulkier like the Vans BMX shoes or the 114 BMX
2:49
shoes would be a really good option. If you just like to flow, you like to cruise, you don't plan
2:53
on smacking your feet on things, something lightweight like the slip-ons could work or
2:57
something like the Vans Ave or even like Nike SB shoes I really liked riding street in. I think
3:02
they're great shoes. There's a handful of different options and as you ride and as you experience
3:06
different things you're going to find those options that you really like and you're going to find one
3:10
to stick to. Honestly, bottom line answer, I probably wouldn't recommend riding in slip-ons
3:15
especially if you're a new rider because I think you have a high chance of it coming off and you
3:20
hurting your foot and we don't want you to hurt your foot. Foot injuries are weird. They're not
3:24
super painful but you use your foot all the time. You always walk on it and so it's just going to be
3:28
annoying. So I would suggest getting something with laces and primarily riding on those. Once you get
3:33
more comfortable maybe trying out the slip-ons but I wouldn't try the slip-ons right away. My favorites
3:37
are the Vans BMX114. I'll link those in the description if you can find them in stock and
3:43
And if you want to join the discord and ask your BMX specific question, we've got over
3:47
1400 members in there all right now. They're in there talking about BMX and it's a good place to be
3:52
So the link for that's in the description. We'll see you guys in the next video
