Surprisingly, the pants that you wear actually make a really big difference in your riding
0:05
You wouldn't think about it. Most times people are thinking about part upgrades and things like that
0:09
But somebody in the BMX Nerd Network asked, I have loads of baggy jeans, but they get caught up in my chain and wheel
0:16
And I see a lot of people wearing baggy jeans. Is there any reason that mine get caught
0:20
So we're going to talk about pants in BMX riding, the better pants that you should be riding
0:25
and why baggy jeans get caught. Let's get right into it. So the first thing you need to understand
0:29
is that your baggy jeans are very close to your sprocket and close to your chain
0:33
When you're pedaling, naturally, they're gonna be doing baggy jean things and they can definitely get caught
0:40
in the sprocket pretty easily. So that's why they get caught. I think what you see is like
0:45
there's a fine line between like loose jeans and baggy jeans. Baggy jeans are, you know, way baggier
0:51
and so they're gonna get caught a lot easier. What you should be looking at
0:55
the real question you should be asking is how can I stop getting my pants caught in my sprocket And the answer for that is to upgrade your pants Now right now the best pants for BMX riding it seems to be the Jay Walker Apparel 2 pants These are stretchier pants marketed for people
1:13
who like stretchier pants and who are doing stuff. So with these stretchier pants
1:18
they're gonna fit snugger on your legs and they're gonna fit over your pads. I wear pads, my pads are like this thick
1:23
And so you need to find pants that are looser than that that'll flex over those pads, okay
1:28
And so they claim that they can do that. And with these pants, they're light and they're comfortable
1:33
And so that's what you want to be doing with your riding. You want to wear pants that are light, comfortable, and not super baggy, in my opinion
1:39
Okay. I think that if you get some pants like these, it's going to eliminate your problem of having
1:44
your pants get caught and everything. And you're going to be a much happier person. You can enjoy riding a lot more
1:49
You'll feel better on the bike. And that's important. Now, for me, I used to wear baggy pants before I started riding bikes
1:55
And then, yes, I was one of the ones that started riding in skinny jeans
1:59
and wearing skinny jeans all the time. It was kind of ridiculous but for me it made
2:04
a lot of sense to like oh yeah just wear skinny jeans that don get caught in my sprocket and then like that just what I always wore and it does make sense to me to wear slimmer pants when you riding your bike because that super annoying and you like you know you doing tail ups you doing no footers you doing no footed cans your feet
2:19
are moving around and you just want everything kind of connected to your body when I switched
2:23
from baggy jeans to skinny jeans the reason I did that was when I met Kevin Perrazzo when I first
2:28
started riding he did a stunt show and I asked him what kind of pants he wore because I was having
2:32
the same problem. He said he wears skinny jeans from Hollister and that's what I started wearing
2:37
all the time. Now to this day I still wear Hollister slim straight pants when I'm riding
2:42
I switched away from the skinny jeans but now they're slim straight and the reason I do that
2:46
is because they have an epic flex material and the epic flex material is going to be very similar to
2:51
the jaywalker pants. They stretch, they're comfortable and you know they flex over your
2:56
pads, they're lightweight. It's like it's a good material to use and so that's what I normally
3:00
road but it was a very frustrating experience for me to try on all these different pants
3:05
and buy new pants and then what happens when you buy new pants and you ride with them and
3:08
they're still not comfortable or they're still getting caught in your chain like you're just stuck so when you buying your pants you gonna go through a very similar journey as me you gonna try different pants love some You going to hate some But eventually you going to find the pair that really work with you You could check out those Jay Walker pants that I mentioned
3:25
However, they're very expensive. They're going to cost you about $70 for one pair of pants
3:29
The Hollister pants that I wear, I find on sale. Typically, Hollister has like a two for $50 sale or they just have all jeans on sale for $25
3:37
If you can stand the smell long enough to go in there and get your jeans, it's a pretty good option
3:41
It's a very affordable option. You can get slim straight. You can get normal straight pants and you check those out
3:46
But ultimately, here's the deal. You want to find pants that you feel good in, you look good in because you don't want
3:51
to look like a goober at the skate park and that are comfortable for you and functional
3:55
for BMX riding. Those are the things that you want to consider when you're finding pants
3:59
And it's really going to be a journey on your own. You've got to try on different pants. You've got to ride with different pants and you'll find some that you love and some that
4:06
you hate. And eventually you're going to find some that you decide to stick with. Now if you have a question about BMX, ask it in the BMX Nerd Network
