Even if a penguin approaches you directly in the Antarctic, you should never touch it. Photographers working there say that when they encounter penguins, they stop immediately and remain still—even if a penguin jumps on their face, they don't push it away. You might think penguins are dangerous, but they're not. Their feathers have a thin oily layer that keeps them waterproof and warm. When humans touch them, this layer can be removed, causing the penguin to lose body heat, and in the worst cases, it can threaten their life. However, penguins aren’t afraid of humans—they approach them in a friendly way. That's because penguins in the Antarctic are the only animals that walk on their feet, and sometimes, humans might think they're one of them.
