Hi, it's the Broker That Gratitude Guy. Today, gratitude in the workplace. Now
0:05
what does gratitude have to do with the workplace? Well, as you might expect, like
0:09
they used to say, contented cows give more milk, more engaged and more excited
0:14
more happy, if you will, happier employees, grateful employees become better employees. There was a survey years ago that had the top ten things
0:22
that employees were looking for in a job, and the top three things of the top ten
0:27
were number one, appreciation and recognition, number two, help with personal problems, and number three, being in on the know. Now, that was in the early
0:34
80s. Now, in 2012, 2013, they did another survey, and that's changed quite a bit. Of
0:40
the top ten things employees wanted, those three were like numbers four, five
0:44
and six. The number one thing a current employee want, whether it's the
0:49
Millennials or whoever, is purpose, number two was responsibility, and number three
0:54
was goals. And you think about the people that left high-paying jobs and gone to
0:59
do things for a purpose, for their level of significance or their contribution. So
1:03
the more your employees get grateful, it starts with a gratitude of the employer
1:07
the boss, the manager, the CEO, the director, whoever it is, the person at the
1:12
top sets the tone. The more grateful they are for themselves, the more grateful
1:17
they are for their company, the more grateful they are for their employees, the better performance they get. Less absenteeism, increased productivity, lower
1:25
dissension, lower turnover, higher overall engagement, and I think that's what all
1:30
good companies are looking for. So think about that with gratitude in the
1:33
workplace, and remember, as a person who manages people, set the best example is
1:38
the best way you can do it. And by being grateful for yourself and everything you
1:42
have and for your employees, that will go all the way through the entire company
1:46
Just like raising children and managing people, very, very similar. It's the example you set. So be grateful for your employees, be grateful for your own job
1:54
your own company, whatever it might be, that'll filter on through from the top
1:58
to the bottom. Gratitude in the workplace, that's what it's all about. It makes a
2:02
huge difference. That's it for today. Have a grateful day. We'll see you tomorrow
