So, well, hi, everybody. It's David George Brooke, that gratitude guy, with my new program
0:05
Encore Endeavor, Fulfilling Your Greater Purpose. And today I have Ted Taylor with me today to talk
0:11
about just his experience in the beta program. And so, Ted, take it away. Well, first of all
0:18
this was a surprise to me. I didn't know that I would get an opportunity. I've been thinking about
0:22
retirement and this concept. I'm in the nonprofit world, which is intense, running a homeless
0:28
shelter. And I thought, how in the world could I ever consider retirement? And when you introduced
0:36
me to the possibility of a conversation about retirement, I had no idea how it was going to go
0:42
But I have to tell you, the number one thing that happened for me through this entire process
0:48
was the joy of discovery. I rediscovered things that I never thought about for many, many years
0:57
out of my childhood, that are really passions deep inside that you were able to draw out
1:04
through a series of questions. I find it fascinating that the process you've developed
1:10
is not one of telling me. It was more of asking me. It is in the questioning that draws out this
1:20
beautiful tapestry of a history of things that I may not have, I may have recessed back in my mind
1:27
so I discovered things that I loved and indicated of that was our time moved so fast that we would
1:36
be through a session. I'm like, wait, I don't want to stop. I just want to keep going because I was
1:42
loving the experience. But I want to take it a step further than that, because what I was
1:50
learning through bringing those up is how much I had pushed away in my business life
1:56
I had pushed away the things that as a young person gave me great joy and I was rediscovering
2:05
them. And so when I would leave our sessions, I would begin to think about, well, wait, I really
2:10
love doing that. And I would walk toward it. So in walking toward it, what in effect was happening
2:18
is I was I was creating new messages. It doesn't figure that would happen. I was getting new
2:26
messages and I was walking toward those messages. And those were, Ted, there are things that you
2:32
have always wanted to do. That now you are rediscovery. Nice. Let's walk toward them now
2:38
without encumbrance. And I absolutely got out of this program a number of things, but one of them
2:47
was it's OK to look with joy back at the things that you used to dream about doing. Right. I had
2:55
not given myself permission to do that. There's one. Here's the second one. I learned that the
3:02
past activities of my life predetermined some things that could work really well in my future
3:10
Mm hmm. I think I learned from you in the questioning that all of the the back story
3:18
that led to now is key to what is going to be my future, that it isn't as though it stops and
3:28
everything is forgotten. It becomes a a part of the tapestry built for next activity. And I actually
3:36
find that exciting. I said to you in our discussions, I'm concerned that without
3:42
deep purpose and deep drive, I'm not going to find a home. I always feel a little empty
3:48
I'm finding the complete opposite right now. I'm finding the desire back to go into new ventures
3:55
to try new things that were based on joy. At an earlier age, so I think what you've developed
4:02
in this questioning format is a beautiful way to let our own spirit drive this conversation
4:10
I think that's the beauty of this idea. Excellent. Excellent. Well, thank you
4:16
Ted. Very well said. And I do appreciate you so much for being part of the program
4:19
Thank you so much. It is my pleasure
