Hi, it's the Brooker That Gratitude guy
0:03
Today, growth versus decay. I read a book some years ago called Younger Next Year, and the authors talked all about
0:11
how for anybody growing up and getting older, not old, but older, the last third of your
0:16
life can be as good as the first two-thirds of your life. One of the topics that they talked a lot about was growth versus decay
0:23
Frankly, I never thought about the word decay much, maybe since tooth decay, when I was
0:27
learning about maybe proper dental hygiene, but it really made me think about this idea
0:32
around gratitude and are we growing or are we decaying? Are we getting better or are we getting worse
0:37
Are we getting higher or lower? One of the things that was so critical to me was discovering gratitude is not only gratitude
0:43
but to keep growing as opposed to decaying was a whole series of things
0:49
Use your gratitude journal. Get your rest. Drink your water. Eat right. Exercise
0:54
All those things. One of the things that I talk about in this book is exercise every day, no discussion
0:57
Now, of course, when you're 60 plus like I am or whatever, it doesn't matter
1:01
Get an early start. So wherever you are in your journey, make sure you're using the gratitude journal
1:06
That keeps this focused, but also if you want to get growing as opposed to decaying or as
1:11
they said in the Shawshank Redemption, you got to get busy living or get busy dying
1:15
It really is that simple sometimes. It's either growth or decay, living or dying
1:20
So really focus on those tools in your toolkit. Use gratitude. Use the exercise piece
1:26
The number one thing they said in that book is make sure you exercise every day. So wherever you are in your journey, start early on that, but remember to frame it all
1:33
around gratitude because when you're grateful for this mind that you have and you take good
1:37
care of the body and do all the right things that they talk about, you'll live a long and
1:42
full and healthy and exciting life in so many cases. So think about that
1:47
Think about gratitude. Be writing that gratitude journal every day. Focus on growth
1:51
We'll forget about decay. That's the message for today. Have a great full day
1:54
We'll see you tomorrow
