My time in the Iraqi Marshlands (also known as the Mesopotamian Marshlands) of southern Iraq continued in the city of Chibaish. This city is the gateway to the marshes, which are a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was truly the start of a beautiful Food Travel and Middle Eastern Food Experience. CHIBAISH MARKET: Here, we saw butchers selling meat, fish, and poultry, as well as fresh fruits, vegetables, and pickles. I also bought three turbans for 26,000 dinar and tried some tasty mouth fresheners! HOMEMADE LUNCH: Our guide’s family grilled some fish and duck for us, along with some red rice, basil, pickles, and crispy khubz tannour bread. Everything was phenomenal and flavorful, from the crispy duck to the tender masgouf. We finished with some Arabian coffee and Iraqi chai! Where have you been?
