After traveling Albania with my friend Erjan in the summer of 2020, we decided to go in on this venture together, using Erjan’s family’s farm as our base of operations. Let’s explore the farm! One thing we’ll offer soon at Turtle Farm Albania is a wonderful breakfast experience featuring locally grown and raised vegetables and eggs. Everything is 100% farm to table. It’s not an Albanian breakfast without some raki to kickstart your day! You can even buy a bottle of our raki for 700 lekes, or roughly $6 USD. You can only see us make raki from September to October, but you can buy it year-round! You can feed them, but we don’t encourage touching them or picking them up. If you do touch one, please wash your hands thoroughly afterward, as they can carry diseases. We walk you through the entire process of how we make raki before moving on to a tasty lunch of village chicken with rice, cheese, cucumber, fërgesë, salad, a milky dessert called qumeshtor, raki, white wine, and red wine. Then, after feeding ourselves, it was time to feed our tortoises! In addition to raki, we also make our own olive oil, using local olives. For that, we head to Restorant Piceri Vani in Daias village. We brought our olives and send the through the washing process before they’re pressed. Then, they get extracted and filtered to make olive oil! Try it with some fresh bread. It’s to die for! Another fun activity we offer at Turtle Farm Albania is off-roading! Enjoy a fun off-roading experience through the local woods and clearings before heading back to the farm for lunch and wine!
