I Turned a Log into a Green Bowl and Here's What Happened

Apr 15, 2025
In this week’s woodturning project, I’m turning a large piece of horse chestnut burl into a beautiful display bowl. To retain the natural live edge features, I used deep pour epoxy resin mixed with a transparent green dye, creating a stunning effect. The bowl was large enough for me to use a bowl saver to carve out the center, resulting in a matching smaller bowl. After turning, I sanded the piece up to 2000 grit and completed a two-stage polish to achieve a glass-like finish.
