6 Tips To Accept The Aging Process
If you're struggling with the reality of aging, you're not alone. It's something everyone goes through. Not only is there the realization of mortality, but the acceptance that perhaps your body and mind are changing. Let’s review six helpful tips to accept the aging process. Focus Your Control. The most resilient among us focus on the things they can control rather than worrying about all the things they can't. The same is true of the aging process. There are things you can control, such as what you eat, how often you exercise, how much you rest, how you look after your body and your perception of aging. Aging is made better when you focus solely on the things you can control. Achieve, Connect, Enjoy. Give yourself something to do that will help you feel more accomplished, whether it's mowing the lawn, doing the dishes, or ironing that load of laundry that's still hot from the dryer. Connect by reaching out and setting up a social event, whether it's with a friend, family member, or a group. Challenge Assumptions. What does aging mean to you? Do you think of it as becoming obsolete? Is it thoughts of being put out to pasture and forgotten by everyone? I would encourage you to challenge your assumptions because aging truly is what you make it. Be Grateful. An attitude of gratitude can be your best friend during the aging process because when you look around at your life and take heed of all the wonderful things you have going on. Start paying attention to just how awesome your life is, and you'll appreciate the aging process more. Limit Negativity. Don't compare yourself to anyone else, whether it's a celebrity who's your age or a friend from high school. When you see lines when you smile, remind yourself how many times you smiled to earn them. Find Purpose. People think of purpose as this grand thing, and for the most part, there's an assumption that everyone has one purpose. That's just not the case. As humans, we're constantly evolving, and as you change and grow older, your purpose changes. What is your purpose now? It's much easier to accept the aging process when you realize you still have a purpose.
