Hi, this is Bobby with Crochet Guru, and today I'm going to show you how to crochet these baby ribbon booties
0:05
Now I also have a matching ribbon hat that goes along with these booties, and if you're interested in crocheting that as well, I will post a link in the description box below
0:13
The booties we're going to be crocheting today will fit a zero to three month old baby
0:17
The materials needed to make these booties, some soft worsted weight yarn, and I used red heart love, and for the purple booties that I'll be making today, I used about a half a skein of lilac and a half a skein of soft white
0:29
and for my pink booties I used perfect pink and soft white
0:34
You will also need a size H8 hook, a stitch marker. You will also need some ribbon for your booties
0:40
and it will need to be 5 eighths of an inch wide, and I use lilac and off white for my purple booties
0:46
and dark pink and off white for my pink booties. You will need a yarn needle
0:50
You will also need a lighter, and that's to seal your ribbon. You will need a needle and some thread
0:56
and you're going to need some scissors. Now if you'd prefer to follow this
1:00
written instructions rather than this video I have a link to this pattern in the
1:03
description box below. To start our booties we're going to chain eight. Okay so the
1:09
first thing we're going to do is make a slip knot and then we're going to
1:15
chain eight. There's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight. For round one
1:29
we're going to single crochet into the second chain from our hook and then single crochet into the next five chains and then we'll be placing four single crochets into our last chain
1:38
Alright so now let's place a single crochet in the second chain from our hook. So locate your second chain and place your first single crochet
1:46
Now we're going to place one single crochet into the next five chains
1:50
So there's one single crochet, 2, 3, 4, 4, and 5
2:11
And now we're going to locate our very last chain and place 4 single crochets
2:20
So there's one. two, three, and four. Now we'll be working on the opposite side of our chains, so just
2:38
make sure to weave in your loose strand as you work. So continuing on round one, we're
2:44
going to single crochet into the next seven chains. So again, we're just working on the
2:49
opposite side of our chain, and we're going to place seven more single crochets along this
2:53
chain. And don't forget to work around the loose strand as well. So there's one, two, three, four, five, five
3:23
Now the last two chains are a little bit harder to spot so just kind of pull out your work and locate those last two chains
3:29
And this will be six and then locate that last chain and it's just right on the very top
3:36
And that will be seven. Now just make sure to count this round and make sure you have 17 single crochets
3:45
This is also a great time to grab your stitch marker and stick it into the last single crochet that you just made
3:51
made. And to be honest, I've lost my place before because I didn't use a stitch marker and it's a real bummer
3:58
Okay, so round two is a mouthful. So I'm going to let you read that on your own and then I'll walk you through it step by step
4:04
Okay, so the first thing we're going to do on round two is place two single crochets into our first two stitches
4:10
So there's one and two into the first stitch. Now into the second stitch, place two more single crochets
4:18
So there's one and then two into the second stitch. Now we're going to place one single crochet into the next four stitches
4:31
So there's one, two, three, and four
4:41
Now we're going to do something a little different. We're going to place two half double crochets into the next five stitches
4:47
So yarn over the hook, insert your hook into the next stitch
4:52
yarn over the hook, pull through the stitch, and then yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook
4:58
for your first half double crochet. Now in the same stitch, place another half double crochet
5:04
So locate the same stitch, insert your hook, place that second half double crochet
5:09
Now we're going to do this in four more stitches, so locate your next stitch and place two more half double crochets
5:16
So there's one. And in the same stitch place another half double crochet
5:24
So there's two. Now do that again into the next stitch. So there's one
5:33
And two half double crochets. And then there's one. And then another two half double crochets
5:44
And now place two more half double crochets into that last stitch
5:51
So there's one and then two. Okay so now let single crochet into our next four stitches
6:02
So one single crochet, two, three single crochets, and there's four
6:12
So to end this round we're just going to place two single crochets into our last two stitches
6:21
So there's one single crochet and in the same stitch place two
6:25
And in the very last stitch where our stitch marker is, place two more single crochets. Perfect
6:33
So just make sure you have 26 stitches in this round and also move your stitch marker up to the
6:37
next round. Moving on to round three we're going to single crochet into the next 10 stitches
6:42
We're going to place two single crochets into the next six stitches and then finish off by placing one single crochet into the last ten stitches
6:50
All right, so starting off on round three we're going to place one single crochet into the next ten stitches
6:59
So there's one and two three four
7:11
five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten
7:26
Now let's place two single crochets into the next six stitches. So let go ahead and locate our next stitch and remember we going to place two single crochets So there one and then two single crochets and do the same thing in the next stitch So one I got a little stuck but there two
7:49
And then one, two into the same stitch. And let's do this three more times
7:58
So there's one, two into the same stitch, one, and then one, and then the same stitch
8:04
and then two into the same stitch. And this should be your last one, so there's one
8:10
and then two into the same stitch. Perfect. Now to finish off round three, we're going to place one single crochet
8:16
into the last ten stitches. So locate the next stitch, and there's one, two, three, four, five, six, six
8:34
seven, eight, and there's nine. And right where your stitch marker is
8:46
is where we're going to place number 10. There's 10 single crochets
8:51
So before we move on to the next round, just make sure you have 32 stitches
8:55
and also make sure to move your stitch marker up to the last single crochet you just made
9:00
Alright, so for round four, we're going to be working in the back loops only
9:03
and we're going to be single crochet. in each stitch around for a total of 32 stitches. So if you're not familiar with working
9:10
into the back loops of a single crochet stitch, I'm going to go ahead and explain it to you
9:14
So the first thing I'm going to show you is both loops of the single crochet. So as I
9:19
inserted my hook into the next stitch, you can see that I have two loops on my hook
9:25
So now what I'm going to do is move my hook and show you the front loop. And as you
9:32
see the front loop is located towards the front of my work
9:36
And now I'm going to move my hook and show you the back loop. And these are the loops that we're going to be working in
9:42
And now you can see that our back loops are located on the back of our work
9:46
Okay, so let's go ahead and single crochet all the way around working in our back loops only
9:51
So this round will be really easy because all we're doing is just single crocheting all the way around
9:58
But just remember that we're only working into our back loops. So because this round is so easy, I'm going to speed up the track and finish up this round
10:31
Alright so now I'm just placing my last few stitches into this round and remember your
10:38
last stitch is going to go right above your stitch marker. So remove my stitch
10:43
marker because it's going to be easier to get that last stitch in and then remember
10:48
to replace your stitch marker and just place it in the last stitch we just made. And
10:53
again before you move on to the next round just make sure you have 32 stitches. Okay so
10:58
read up on round five and then we'll go through it together step up step. All right so the first thing we're going to do in round five is double crochet two
11:06
together. So go ahead and yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull
11:13
through the stitch. There will now be three loops on your hook, yarn over and only pull through
11:17
the first two loops. And now working into the next stitch, we're going to yarn over, place
11:22
our hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch. There will now be four
11:27
loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through the first two loops
11:31
There will now be three loops on your hook. So yarn over and pull through all three of those loops
11:36
And that will be your first double crochet two together. Now we're going to double crochet into the next six stitches
11:43
So yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch
11:47
yarn over and pull through the first two loops, and then yarn over and pull through the second two loops
11:52
for your first double crochet. And then let's do this again five more times
11:58
So there's two double crochets. There's three, four, and then five
12:12
Now we're going to double crochet two together and we're going to do that eight times
12:16
So go ahead and double crochet the first two stitches together. So yarn over and insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull through the
12:24
stitch, yarn over and pull through the first two loops on your hook, yarn over again
12:29
but this time place your hook into the next stitch. yarn over and pull through the stitch, yarn over and pull through the first two loops
12:38
and then yarn over and pull through the last three loops. Now we're going to repeat that seven more times
12:44
So to crease the next two stitches together by working another double crochet just like we did before
12:49
So now we just need to double crochet two together six more times
13:01
So there's three. And there's four
13:16
There's five. There's six
13:31
There's seven. And here's our last one. And there's eight
13:43
Now we're going to work one double crochet into the next six stitches
13:48
So there's one double crochet. There's two
13:58
three, four, five, and there's six. Now in the very last two stitches we're going to place our last double crochet two together
14:16
So go ahead and double crochet those two last stitches together. will be the end of round five. Now make sure you have 22 stitches at the end of round five and also
14:34
move your stitch marker up to the very last double crochet two together that you just made
14:39
Okay so for round six we're going to double crochet into the next seven stitches and then we'll do
14:44
a double crochet decrease. We'll repeat that four times and then to end the round we'll double
14:49
crochet into the last seven stitches. All right so let's go ahead and start this round by
14:54
double crocheting into the next seven stitches. So there one two three four five five six and seven Okay so now let double crochet two together and then we repeat that three more times for a total of four times
15:29
okay so let's double crochet these two stitches together this is also called a double crochet decrease
15:39
okay so there's one we're gonna do this three more times There's two
15:52
And there's three decreases and this will be four decreases. So there's four decreases altogether
16:04
And now to end of the row let's double crochet into the next seven stitches
16:14
So there's one double crochet, two, three doubles, there's four, five, six, and seven, right
16:36
where the stitch marker is. Okay, so just make sure there's 18 stitches in this round and move your stitch marker up to the last double crochet that you made
16:46
Alright, so moving on to round 7 through 8, we're going to FCR in each stitch around
16:51
An FCR is a front cross stitch, and what that means is we're going to skip the next stitch and double crochet into that next stitch
16:57
And then we're going to work around the front of the last stitch, and then we're going to place a double crochet into our skipped stitch
17:04
Now that might seem hard, but it's actually really easy, and I'll show you how to do that
17:07
Alright, so to start our FCR we're going to skip the first stitch, and we're going to place a double crochet into the next stitch
17:14
So here's our first stitch, so skip that one and place the double crochet into the second stitch right here
17:22
So there's our first double crochet, and now what we need to do is work around the front of this double crochet
17:27
and place another double crochet into our skipped stitch. and that is what makes a front cross stitch
17:38
So we're going to do this all the way around our booties. So again, skip the next stitch and place a double crochet into the next stitch
17:44
Work around that double crochet into the front and place another double crochet into the skip stitch
17:51
So let's just keep going, skip the next stitch, place your double crochet
17:57
Now work around that double crochet and place your next double crochet into the skip stitch
18:01
And then let's just keep going all the way around the booty. So skip the next stitch, place your double crochet
18:07
Work around to the front. Place your next double crochet in the skip stitch
18:13
And I'm just going to keep going with you all the way around the booty. Work around to the front, place your double crochet into the skip stitch
18:22
Skip the next stitch, place your double crochet. And when you're finished with this, you should get 18 stitches
18:31
And you will also get nine front cross stitches. So this right here should be eight front cross stitches
18:53
And the next, or the last front cross stitch will end where the stitch marker is
19:01
Okay, so there we have a total of nine front cross stitches and a total of 18 stitches
19:10
So go ahead and count around your booty, make sure that you have it right, and then we'll move on to the next round
19:16
All right, so for round eight we're going to do the exact same thing as we did for round seven
19:20
We're just going to front cross stitch and every stitch around. So move your stitch marker up and I'm actually going to let you do round eight on your own
19:27
since it was exactly like round seven. And if you need any help, just rewind this video and start from the beginning of round seven
19:34
Now after you finish round eight, we're going to slip stitch into the next stitch and then fasten this round off
19:40
Alright, to fasten off, cut your yarn leaving about five or six inches so that way we can weave that in
19:46
Now go ahead and slip stitch into the next stitch by inserting your hook into the next stitch
19:53
yarn over, pull through the stitch, and through the loop on your hook
19:58
hook. Now just pull the tail end through the loop on your hook and tighten it up
20:03
Now we'll go ahead and move on to round nine. For round nine we're going to
20:08
attach color B into our last stitch and then we'll single crochet in each
20:11
stitch around. Alright so I switched my background so that you can see the soft
20:15
white yarn a little bit better. So let's go ahead and take our soft white, create a
20:19
slip knot, and then attach it to the last stitch we just made which is right
20:24
above the stitch marker. So insert your hook into the last stitch we just made and
20:28
attach your slip knot, bring it through the stitch, yarn over and pull it through the loop on your hook
20:35
So before I move on, I just wanted to let you know that there is an easier way to attach a new color to your project
20:41
And you might have noticed that I use different ways in all of my videos. I like to use this method every once in a while because you don't end up noticing the color change quite as much
20:49
But if you don't like this method, use whichever one works best for you
20:54
Okay, so moving on, now what we're going to do is just single crochet in each stitch around
20:58
and what I'm going to do is just leave my tail in inside of the booty and we'll go ahead and stitch that in later
21:04
Okay, so let's go ahead and just single crochet around the entire booty and because this round is going to be so easy
21:10
I'm going to do a couple of single crochets with you and then I'll let you finish up this round on your own
21:20
All right, so go ahead and just finish up this round nine on your own and I'll meet you back here for round 10
21:25
Alright, before moving on to round 10, just know that the chain 4 will count as a first triple crochet
21:33
For round 10 we're going to chain 4 and then triple crochet into the next 17 stitches around
21:38
And then we'll slip stitch into the first triple crochet to end
21:43
Okay so let's start out by chaining 4 and remember this will be our first triple crochet
21:49
And now we're going to go ahead and triple crochet in each stitch around
21:54
So yarn over the hook two times, so there's one and two, insert your hook into the next stitch
22:02
yarn over and pull through the stitch, yarn over and pull through the first two loops
22:07
yarn over and pull through the second two loops, and now yarn over and pull through the last
22:12
two loops to make your first triple crochet. Now I'll move through this a little bit faster, so go ahead and make your next triple crochet
22:19
and we're just going to do this all the way around our booty
22:24
Okay, so I'm going to do one more with you and I'm going to let you finish up the triple crochets
22:32
And then I'll meet you back here to finish up this round. Okay, to finish up this round, let slip stitch into our first triple crochet
22:42
And remember our first triple crochet is the chain right above our stitch marker
22:46
So locate the chain, insert your hook, yarn over and pull through the chain and the loop on your hook
22:52
And then we'll get ready for the next round. For round 11 it going to be really easy All we going to do is just single crochet in each stitch around for a total of 18 stitches okay so this is going to seem really strange so first off i apologize because i am missing my
23:08
video for round 11 i usually record my videos in sections or rounds and for some reason i have
23:14
looked everywhere and i cannot find my video for this round so usually if this happens i go back and
23:20
re-record the section but because this video is one of my older videos i don't have any of the
23:24
materials I used. So on the bright side all you have to do is single crochet
23:29
around your booty and just make sure you have 18 single crochets around. And again
23:33
I'm so sorry I've never done this before so please forgive this part of the video
23:38
and forgive me. So anyway just continue on and we'll move on to round 12
23:43
Okay so don't worry I do have video for this round. Now this round is really
23:47
wordy and it looks difficult so instead of reading it to you I'm just going to walk you through it step by step. All right
23:54
So the first thing we're going to do is half double crochet into the next stitch
23:58
So yarn over your hook, enter your hook into the next stitch
24:02
yarn over and pull through the stitch, and then yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook
24:09
And now we're going to double crochet into the same stitch. So go ahead and double crochet into that exact same stitch
24:17
And now let's place another double crochet into the next stitch. Now after you finish that double crochet, now we're going to place a half double crochet into the same stitch
24:32
Now go ahead and place a slip stitch into the next stitch. Now we're going to repeat what we just did five more times for a total of six
24:42
So again, that's half double crochet into the next stitch. Then we're going to place a double crochet into the same stitch
24:49
Now place a double crochet into the next stitch. and then a half double crochet into the same stitch
24:56
Now place a slip stitch into the next stitch. Now we're going to repeat this four more times
25:02
So again, half double crochet into the next stitch, and then place a double crochet into the same stitch
25:08
place a double crochet into the next stitch, and then a half double crochet into the same stitch
25:14
Now place a slip stitch into the next stitch. Okay, so I'm going to let you finish up this round on your own
25:20
and if you need some help, go ahead and rewind the video. Just start at minute 2353 if you need to go back
25:26
Okay, so before I move on to the ribbon, I just wanted to finish the booty with you
25:30
so that way you know how to fasten off. So go ahead and take your stitch marker out, and then just add a slip stitch
25:35
There's a very first stitch that we made. Grab your scissors and cut your yarn leaving about five, six inches
25:43
Pull the tail end through the loop on your hook, and then just tighten it up to fasten it off
25:47
And then let's go ahead and weave in our loose ends. So go ahead and grab your yarn needle and let's just weave in those loose yarn ends and I'm just going to weave back and forth through my stitches
25:59
Okay so when you're finished doing this let's go ahead and move on and we'll put some ribbon in our booty
26:04
So now what we're going to do is weave our ribbon in and out of the triple crochets on our booty
26:10
So grab your ribbon and start weaving in and out of those triple crochets
26:15
and what I like to do is weave my ribbon under one triple crochet
26:19
and then I like to take it over two. But this is just the way I like it and you can weave your ribbon in your booty however you like it to look
26:27
So I'm just going to keep weaving my ribbon in and out. Now when you get finished weaving, just make sure that both of the ends of your ribbon are on the side of your booty
26:39
because this is where we're going to be placing our bow. So when you cut your ribbon, just make sure the ribbon is loose around your booty and not too tight
26:47
because otherwise the baby's foot won't be able to fit. Also, when you go back to make your other booty
26:53
just make sure that the ribbon is on the opposite side of your booty. So again, just make sure your tail ends of the ribbon
26:59
are on the opposite side of the booty. That way you'll have one booty with a right bow
27:04
and one booty with a left, so don't forget that, that's important. Alright, so now grab your needle and thread
27:10
and let's stitch both ends of that ribbon together. And again, just stitch it loosely
27:15
so that you have enough room around the booty for the baby's foot to fit
27:21
And I'm just weaving back and forth, just making sure that the ribbon is stitched together
27:28
Alright so now let's make some pretty bows to go on our booty. Now I'm not great at bow tutorials, so what I'm going to do is quickly show you how I make
27:35
my bow, and then I'll leave some links in the description box below on some better
27:39
bow tutorials. So if this bow tutorial isn't your favorite, go and check out those tutorials
27:45
So I've decided to overlap my bow three times. And as you can see, the ends are just barely overlapping each other
27:54
And I'm going to cut the end of my ribbon, leaving a little bit left over
28:01
I'm going to pinch the middle, grab my needle and thread. I'm just going to weave in and out of the middle section of my ribbon
28:11
Now remember just to weave in and out of your ribbon in one direction
28:41
Now that we're done, we're just going to pull our thread tightly, bringing the bow together
28:48
And now start wrapping your thread around the ribbon to form a bow
28:59
Now I'm just going to use my needle to stitch through the middle section of the bow
29:05
This way it will close it off and make it nice and tight. Now just take your scissors and cut all the ugly stuff off, all of that thread
29:16
I'm going to form my bow to make it look how I want it to. Let's go ahead and cut the tail ends of the ribbon at an angle
29:24
As you can see, I'm folding the ribbon in half, and then I'm going to cut it at an angle
29:29
I'm going to do that to both sides. Now what we're going to do is use our lighter to seal the ends of that ribbon we just cut
29:40
So just go over it very lightly with a lighter. And I actually think this is a great trick to seal the ends of that ribbon
29:50
When I first learned you could do this, I thought it was pretty awesome. Okay, so I just made a white bow the exact same as the purple, but I just made it a little bit smaller
30:01
And then I took a little bit of the purple ribbon and wrapped it around both bows
30:05
So now what I'm going to do is just stitch the bows into the booty
30:10
Just make sure that when you stitch the bows into the booty, that they're stitched over the tail ends to cover those up
30:18
Okay, so great, this is what your booty should be looking like, and this is what my purple booty looks like
30:24
and this is what my pink booty looks like. So they're both really fun and really cute
30:29
Now go ahead and make your second booty, but remember to put your bow on the opposite side of the booty
30:33
So that way you'll have a left booty and a right booty. Thank you so much for watching this video
30:38
and don't forget to go and watch the hat video that matches the booties
