Well, we are back to walking in Montana for a few weeks until we can get out on the road again. I'm recovering from a bout of Covid and kept it local today. The temps are getting ready to drop and it's snowing as I write this but we Love Livingston and I'm always happy to share it with you. We seem to find something a bit different on every walk. I hope you enjoy this one. Thanks to our Patreon Supporters and if you like 360/VR type stuff, I've posted a Sleigh Ride, Dog Sledding, and Horseback Riding over on the City Walks 360 channel (link below) -H

hello walkers and welcome back to livingston montana uh i was sort of in
0:09
my head here thinking about the road trip that i just
0:14
the videos of which i just finished up um my name is henry i'll be your proxy
0:20
walker today your virtual travel guide on city walks where we wander around and explore
0:26
and notice and uh just kind of wonder about finding things i do talk a lot on
0:32
this channel so be forewarned on that um a couple little news items here one i
0:40
did just post the last of our east coast road trip
0:46
videos such a cool trip for us so much fun i didn't get to do all the videos i
0:52
wanted to do but i did a lot and it was uh it was really cool so i hope you guys have enjoyed those um
1:00
we are back in montana now as you would guessed um i haven't done a livingston
1:05
walk uh in a long time so i thought i'd do that it's a little strange actually to
1:10
be filming again after two months or so
1:16
as i hustle past this gentleman issuing his mail it is 10 a.m on a
1:22
sunday so it's going to be a quiet day around livingston it is mid-february
1:28
mid to late february it is 40 degrees fahrenheit 4 degrees celsius
1:33
i want to thank our patreon supporters it's a lot of fun
1:39
interacting with you guys on the patreon uh platform and i really do appreciate
1:45
all your support um it's really encouraging and it actually does help so
1:52
uh that is awesome and i appreciate it we are currently walking down calendar street
1:58
it's uh technically west calendar i think a bit more of heading south
2:03
because we're on a diagonal um anyways a couple little updates here one this is not going to be a
2:09
particularly long video uh because i had covered last week
2:17
and i'm not quite feeling 100 um i'm not gonna talk a lot about that except to say uh i would not have wanted
2:24
to have that uh at all but surely not without having all my shots and boosters and that's all
2:31
i'm gonna say on that because it's a controversial topic and that's not this is not the forum
2:36
so i hope you guys are all healthy and safe out there and stay healthy and safe
2:42
um oh look at this i want if you go back and look at some of our other videos
2:48
there used to be a house here and i have not noticed that they've torn it out
2:53
um i know the owner i think he still owns this of this this used to be a hospital
2:59
he's an architect and as he said like the cobbler's kids have no shoes
3:05
he works on this when he gets a chance and it's a really cool old building and he has done quite a bit
3:12
with it and i can't wait to see it when it's finished someday we're going to cross yellowstone here
3:22
[Music] that is the siren song of livingston as i call it
3:28
it's pervasive the railroad sounds here [Music]
3:34
you tend to i tend to drown it out but
3:39
little kids can't always do that i think i've mentioned in the past
3:48
you mentioned in the past how frustrating that would get with that when my little my kids were little and
3:54
they'd be trying to take a nap we'd get a couple an hour a piece and then almost down and
4:00
that thing would go off um we're going to go up here to 5th street
4:07
partly because i want to show you some other things we haven't we don't usually come down this way
4:12
i love these motion sculptures here um
4:19
you see an erla landmark sign up here it's a real estate sign this is a former school
4:26
now turned into condos it's pretty nice in there i've been in there in years but
4:32
it was pretty nice when i looked last this house over here is finally finished
4:39
been working on that for a while i think it's owned by a
4:45
builder and again i think folks like that they do the work
4:51
themselves and they they get to it when they can when they're not busy earning a living
4:56
so totally understand why that might take a while
5:02
i love these old victorian-esque homes craftsman style homes
5:10
one of the things i wanted to do was point out um
5:15
this gray house up here on the left with the flags it is owned by some friends of ours
5:21
named mick and donald and they run a bed and breakfast
5:26
and they had some financing issues they had to sort out so they
5:33
went offline for a year or so and they're back and they
5:38
the the inside of this place is absolutely amazing they've done an amazing job they sort of designed and
5:45
with but themselves and with help from their artist friends and they're great guys they have music on the porch
5:50
sometimes they have great food and it's just a really nice place and
5:56
here's where my ego comes i like those planters too here's where my ego comes in
6:03
and this was so flattering they had a guest come
6:11
and say tell them that she just had to see livingston
6:16
because she'd seen one of these walks and thought it was such a cute town and
6:23
i cannot tell you how good that makes me feel i'm getting a little tingle just thinking about it
6:29
now so i love the fact that i uh
6:35
sung the praises of our little town here i love the fact that um somebody loved
6:40
this little town enough to come visit and i love the fact they stayed at the stone's throw bed and breakfast
6:50
that's a win-win-win-win-win so anyway i thought i'd share that with you
6:56
guys that's a big positive for the day um
7:03
we the weather this year has been um fine you know it's pretty dry
7:10
you could use some more snow for sure uh it has not been particularly cold
7:16
we've had a couple cold snaps and we're gonna have one starting tomorrow like for two days i think
7:22
it's gonna get down to zero as a a high of zero degrees fahrenheit
7:28
and that's pretty cool but it's two days and we had some earlier in the year but
7:33
not really too bad uh i'm not sure what the snowpack is but i
7:41
think in this area it's pretty low for and they do that as a percentage of
7:48
normal for this time of year so usually they'll be like 80 percent of
7:53
normal or 90 of normal or 110 of normal i guess normal would be
7:59
100 of normal uh i love these houses um
8:04
so you want to go out here on the street so we get a better view [Music]
8:12
we're gonna walk down to the river again just because i do oh cute little dog i do like going
8:18
down the river we have such a beautiful
8:23
spot here in livingston and the river makes is a big part of that
8:31
got some kids out here riding their bicycles
8:37
and i love the fact that and on skates this car
8:44
slowed down i look like they might cross people are going slow here and
8:51
taking their time and uh
8:58
i don't focus on i don't film kids on here so i'm gonna direct the camera up clark
9:05
here which is louis clark geysers how the
9:12
streets go down here across
9:17
folks are going to let me do that and then we've got this
9:23
house over here
9:28
that's that's all i'm gonna say on that
9:36
i love this little neighborhood
9:56
well okay then um
10:03
so we're on fifth and we're what else can i tell you guys oh yeah
10:09
leave me a comment if you guys uh are into it um
10:14
i love hearing your thoughts i love hearing your questions and trying to answer them
10:20
love hearing your memories and even your corrections and clarifications and
10:25
additions i don't do a ton of research on these
10:31
walks i don't really have to on livingston because i live here
10:37
but and i like to discover things myself so
10:42
i don't always have a full amount of info and i always appreciate getting
10:48
additional info
10:58
so we're gonna jog left here on geyser
11:07
i've gotten two comments recently telling me i should stop talking
11:13
which i get that that's uh a lot of people a lot of almost all the other channels
11:18
don't have walking i think um johnny strides talks
11:24
he's up in toronto he does so great great videos up there uh and i think action kid
11:32
tv out of new york city and wherever else he travels he's kind of a big heavyweight in the
11:39
youtube walking world i find that funny um anyway he does a great job too and
11:46
has some great videos of new york city so check those out and um
11:52
photo luke hawaii does walking videos as well as other videos
11:58
now from hawaii and he does a great job too so check those out
12:06
all interesting hi there pop a little one-eyed dog
12:24
this is back on yellowstone here this is sort of a big broad
12:30
uh street with a lot of historic homes and it's kind of where the money was back in
12:37
the railroad days
12:42
we're gonna come up here to the lagoon oh anyway um
12:48
i've thought a lot about um do going silent
12:54
um i'd love to be able to do both um but i think
13:01
one it's hard for me to keep my mouth shut and two it's uh
13:06
a lot of people like have said repeatedly uh how much they like the talking so
13:12
in fact somebody early on called me the bob ross of walking videos which i thought was great that just tickles me
13:20
um so anyway i'm gonna keep talking that's the plan anyway
13:26
uh the exception of that is nature walks so we are going to do some traveling soon
13:34
not soon next month and we're gonna go do some more cities but in the meantime
13:41
probably gonna do another walk over in bozeman at some point and then
13:46
um uh i think we might have time to do red lodge
13:52
uh and then again and then it'll be some nature walks i'm
13:58
gonna go find some nature trails and on those walks i did a little talking at the beginning and then
14:04
i uh i like to just go quiet and listen to the ambient
14:09
nature sounds and find that a little more relaxing i think i think people appreciate that it adds a
14:16
little variety to the mix we are coming up on the lagoon
14:27
again it is a sunday so it's really quiet today
14:33
it's not too cold as i mentioned so you can see this is all fairly shallow this is kind of the fleshman
14:40
creek of the lagoon um and it's
14:46
several feet deep in the steepest you can see a little island there usually a lot of ducks and geese in there
14:51
looking for food and then over here is the main part of the lagoon
14:57
and when it is colder uh and the ice is looks pretty solid right now um
15:05
is gets nice and thick they people will skate out there they'll shovel off snow maybe set up some hockey that sort of
15:11
thing although this year they have uh through some volunteer
15:17
efforts set aside on the county fairgrounds an indoor
15:24
skating rink it's pretty small it's not a full-sized hockey rink or anything but it is plenty big for people to get
15:31
out there and enjoy the ice
15:37
and since we homeschool we can get down there pardon me and uh
15:44
when nobody else is around we just have to make sure one of the volunteers is there
15:49
to oversee us which is nice and uh
15:55
then one of our home school parents has volunteered to do that
16:00
so that's pretty cool
16:10
love these ducks flying in here
16:18
ducks on ice are incredibly silly looks like some folks are going to come
16:23
down here and maybe feed the ducks they're getting all lined up
16:30
it's always fun i'm not sure as long as you don't i
16:36
think if you feed them seeds and that sort of thing it's probably all right
16:43
but uh you don't want to feed them bread i know that
16:56
a couple of big geese on top there
17:04
hi there
17:12
oh even got a pigeon in there trying to pretend like it's a duck
17:21
look how happy they are i love those mallard heads
17:27
ducks are so ridiculously silly i think
17:35
they are so colorful right now a lot of times in the spring and summer
17:41
you can see maybe one down there starting to molt just a little bit they lose that winter plumage
17:48
uh in the spring and then i think they lose their summer plumage in in the fall early fall
17:54
and they can get a little ratty looking but man they sure were pretty looking there
18:08
we'll go up here and see the river and we won't walk along the river too long but
18:14
just a little way see what's going on it's ever changing the
18:20
water levels change the channels change
18:25
the wildlife changes
18:41
yeah the water level's really low right now crows down here in the rocks
18:49
some even bathing over here
18:55
you might even see a heron if you can see it right about there
19:01
on that log and then you've got the mountains in the background livingston peak
19:08
just barely visible through the fog ah nice cottonwood so
19:14
this is ninth street island as i point out every time you see there's this
19:20
very faint channel that when i first moved here 15 years ago there was a boat ramp
19:25
down there and you could put your boat in and float all the way down and it has changed considerably this
19:31
whole looks almost like a delta but a secondary island here
19:41
it has expanded and expanded and expanded over the years the point where that boat ramp is no
19:46
longer usable and there's barely any flow through there in the summer
19:54
and then you see this current here gets wider and then
20:01
this is a great place to come swimming the current can be a little tricky and it's hard to get in and out of that rip wrap
20:07
but if you can get across then it slows down down here
20:13
before it joins up with the main current and is a great place to
20:19
cool off when it's 100 degrees down here which it gets to be some days in the summer
20:26
no humidity of course look at this this is the where they have the summer
20:31
farmers market this pink building is the band shell we'll go around the other side but i wanted to see this
20:38
they've obviously trimmed back the branches of the spruce trees but i don't think i've ever seen a
20:44
spruce tree then re-sprout branches like that it's pretty interesting
20:52
this building is primed for a
20:58
is prime candidate for a rejuvenation grant of some sort
21:06
you can also see up just in the eaves there the remnants of
21:12
swallow nests and they'll come and rebuild those in the spring and there's a uh a camera that's the
21:18
first time i've ever noticed that and here's the band shell part
21:24
and of course you got some benches to sit but most people put out blankets around here and sit on
21:30
the ground with their kids mostly young families up front and then the cement is a
21:37
place for everybody to dance if they want and then they'll have booths
21:42
something happened there with my camera and i didn't quite read the message but it stopped
21:48
and i restarted we only lost about four seconds but that's interesting i'm not sure what
21:54
happened there perhaps
22:00
i'm shooting at 4k 60 today so maybe um
22:06
the write speed for cash or whatever didn't really
22:12
couldn't keep up i guess this over here is um
22:20
the civic center and it's an old gym gymnasium inside and they play
22:27
uh basketball and volleyball and that sort of thing in there and then that mural we'll go over see the mural
22:33
is by i believe parks reese uh he's a local famous artist
22:38
um and it has to do with a sister city
22:44
we have and i think china hence the panda bear and the grizzly
22:49
bear cranes in the trout there's another
22:55
camera they have they've always had these signs up about uh
23:00
on video camera or under surveillance i think to deter um
23:07
vandalism but it's the first time i've actually seen cameras we've been up there for a while it looks like
23:15
we don't really have a problem here with vandalism so much i don't think every once in a while somebody will
23:22
cause a problem uh i think five to ten years ago if somebody was
23:28
going around breaking into cars and trying to set them on fire happened
23:34
two or three cars and then they got the guy he was had some mental health issues i think
23:40
uh but we're gonna go over and see the statue of pompey and sacagawea
23:46
and i know there is some alternative
23:53
or variety of pronunciations of those and i do my best
23:59
particularly in foreign languages or non-english languages in this case
24:07
um but it's a neat little statue
24:13
and of course sac lewis and clark came through here
24:18
it's nice and now this little dock which is kind of used to be nice
24:25
but it has another candidate for some uh
24:31
rejuvenation it almost doesn't look safe
24:37
but i can't imagine they'd keep it open if it wasn't it's a challenge i think because of all
24:42
the ice and the freezing and swelling and heaving of the ground when it does that when it
24:50
freezes here's another view of the front of the
24:56
civic center and i think they did get a grant
25:03
i thought they got a grant to do some work on that and maybe they did some
25:11
could use some more i mean that building is
25:18
i don't know how old but it wouldn't surprise me it was 100 years old at this point
25:24
90 i don't i don't know i should look that up
25:33
this over behind this woods in this woods is part of the property i believe is a
25:39
high school and they've recently last year came in here and cleaned out a lot of the underbrush over
25:46
here and i'm not sure exactly what they're going to do it's some with something educational oriented
25:51
and uh i can't really remember what it is
26:01
and then of course the city pool which the i keep hearing they're going to close down and they keep
26:09
opening up every summer which is great you know it's
26:14
a little community like this you need a pool even though we're right next to the river little kids can't
26:20
swim in there too easily and can't teach lessons in the river
26:26
um anyway glad we still have that
26:36
here's the high school
26:43
we're gonna go back up here to main street
26:52
which is we're going to follow fleshman creek along here we're walking into the wind right now
26:58
not much i can do about that other than hold my hand over the microphone
27:13
there's usually up yep there's some ducks down in here usually some ducks hang out
27:20
we got some wood ducks look how pretty they are hi guys i don't want them to think i'm a
27:26
predator mallards and wood ducks
27:34
they're in full plumage nice
27:42
there's the high school the park county rangers as in park
27:48
rangers
28:00
this is fleshman creek over here by the way
28:10
i was realizing today i think six or
28:15
nine months ago i bought a polarizer filter for this camera
28:22
and uh i did it i used it for something else and i lost the polarizer somehow
28:30
and i just haven't bought another one because it's like thirty dollars and
28:36
i don't really wanna buy something that i'll probably just lose again
28:42
although i should have a more positive attitude a
28:47
more optimistic attitude
28:54
over here is a several medical offices including a dentist
29:00
and you're supposed to have your
29:06
checkups for your kids every six months or so and they are so short-staffed
29:13
that um this isn't just them it's everywhere uh that they can't
29:19
that it's now eight months out before you can get another appointment and
29:27
the reason for that is they can't find people they can't pay enough
29:34
that people can afford to live here it's not this isn't like a minim these
29:41
are this isn't minimum wage jobs right this isn't some company trying to skate by on
29:48
the bare minimum they're paying really well from what i understand but the
29:55
one the prices here are ridiculous not really they're just
30:00
astronomical and two there's no inventory
30:06
there's just there's nothing available um this tall
30:11
building over here is actually low-income housing for seniors
30:16
and they are doing a rehab in there hence all the cubes i believe
30:24
and this is the livingston enterprise over here the newspaper coming back on geyser
30:33
so those cubes are doing floor by floor and they're re
30:38
they're renovating uh the building 4x4 which is
30:43
going to be great i think because i you know same thing i'm not
30:49
sure where those low income seniors would live otherwise
31:02
granite sports medicine across the way look at that fluffy dog uh
31:09
little einsteins preschools it's uh sunday so nobody's here today
31:16
um and then this big white building is actually uh wilcox's ice cream
31:23
we have our very own ice cream factory here it's pretty good ice cream
31:32
the granite sports fitness and then rebel wellness up there uh the blue building is loaves and
31:39
fishes that's they give out free meals to people that need them
31:50
we're on main street by the way i don't think i called that out
32:01
you can see uh the hill i've done a walk up there starting up at the
32:08
cell tower area up there and making my way down most of the way
32:15
so check those out i think i did those this past summer maybe maybe a summer before
32:21
even a couple 360 walks up there i separated out my 360 walks now and
32:28
experiences to a separate channel called city walks 360 should be linked in the description
32:34
this is neptune's tap house and eatery they have sushi which is pretty good uh
32:42
i'm not going to compare it to something out of japan or san francisco but they do a good job
32:49
uh and they're saying something
32:54
i a lot of galleries here a lot of artists
33:00
here in livingston uh
33:07
this used to be an office building i don't know what they're doing now it's it's accelera it's expanded and
33:13
expanded and expanded um this little building they're
33:20
rejuvenated they've been working on it for a long time and first i thought it was just the front
33:26
offices now it seems to be the whole thing
33:36
oh yeah 360. so you might want to check that out that channel uh
33:41
i have posted three non-walking videos over there recently one was a winter sleigh ride up in
33:50
seeley lake at the double arrow lodge up there double aero ranch uh
33:56
hold on out of the blue antiques and betty's bottle shop really cool little store
34:01
quirky fun stuff in there nice wine if you want to get a nice
34:07
bottle of wine that you can't find at the grocery store
34:13
excellent i also on the 360 stuff posted we did a dog sled
34:20
day that was amazing and i shared some 360 footage of that
34:29
pardon me and then also
34:35
i think i mentioned may have mentioned uh we got to go for a week down to a
34:41
dude ranch in arizona in january early january
34:46
and i did about 45 minutes of
34:52
horseback riding various sections of that i think there's six or seven different
34:57
sections that's about 40 minutes long all together but check those out if you're interested
35:03
they're pretty fun you can drag and drop you can drag around the screen with your cursor or if you watch on your phone or tablet
35:10
you can actually just move the tablet around and it will
35:18
follow the viewpoint of that
