This is the second walk I did in Colorado springs. I've got two more in the queue with a stop in Pueblo as well. My previous walk downtown led me to the starting point of this walk and after a quick coffee, I hit the treadmill trail once again. I chose this are because I'd driven around a bit and saw a bunch of really nice houses and thought you might like it as well. The thumbnail was a large beautiful church I walked by about midway through.
I hope you enjoy these virtual walks and treadmill scenery videos. I really do mean it when I say how much I enjoy reading your comments so please feel free to leave one below. Also, remind me if I forget to follow through with one of the things I say I'm going to do in the walks. Thanks and keep on Steppin' -H

hello walkers and welcome to colorado springs welcome back to colorado springs it is about 10
0:08
a.m 32 degrees fahrenheit zero degrees celsius and uh this is our second colorado
0:15
springs walk had a beautiful walk downtown earlier this morning and now we're gonna branch
0:20
out i believe this is bijou park
0:26
nope it says acacia park over there anyway and we are going to
0:34
sort of do a little view of the park and
0:40
walk through and then we're going to head south no sorry head north to the right and uh
0:47
explore up towards colorado college and then eventually i think we'll do a little uh walk around colorado college
0:55
and i just have to keep talking without intermittence while i pass all this music so that i don't trigger
1:01
the youtube algorithm and then they turned it off nice my name is henry i will be your proxy
1:08
walker today your virtual travel guide as we head west towards i think that's
1:14
pike's peak but i cannot guarantee it i'm not going to
1:21
give you a whole lot of information and i probably won't talk that much today but um i will ask you to leave me a
1:28
comment i love your comments love your stories and your thoughts and your constructive feedback
1:34
and all that fun stuff and so i would appreciate it if you would leave
1:40
it in the youtube comments give us a like and a thumbs up and then
1:45
subscribe if you haven't already click the bell to get notified this is taehone and off to the left is bijou street
1:52
hence the what i thought was the name of the park we're going to take a quick loop through the park just to see what
1:58
it's like because it's kind of cool um that goose over to the left but then they've got this
2:05
thing here and it looks like this might be a little spray park which is kind of cool my kids always
2:13
love those and then there's a playground off to the
2:18
right is a band shell and behind it a little mini coffee hut
2:27
and there's no smoking i love that
2:34
and oh look at this they even have an ice rink a little mini ice rink
2:44
and uh looks like it's probably not in use maybe i don't know it's a
2:49
little warm today it is a beautiful day it is about i
2:55
think i said 10 a.m in the temperature i like to do that check us out on
3:01
instagram city walks underscore virtual travel twitter walk city and facebook city
3:08
walks um and i post
3:13
things there other people's watch sometimes my own photos on instagram places that i
3:20
don't necessarily film walks of little videos there sometimes short ones looks
3:27
like they have not zambonid or even flooded it maybe
3:34
yeah i would say they haven't even flooded it which probably makes sense
3:43
for the situation the health situation health reasons oh cool they're gonna
3:49
build a little platform out here maybe they play some hockey they've got some nets up that's
3:56
interesting going back towards tejon and one of the reasons
4:06
one of the reasons i wanted to walk out this way is just the buildings are so beautiful they're
4:12
you know 120 years old or so and i like seeing them this little
4:19
section down here is a nice little neighborhood on the edge of downtown with a lot of little
4:25
restaurants and shops and bars and coffee shops there's a mountain bike store
4:32
and some certified public accountants and then acacia park
4:39
building over here i don't know what this is on plat nor do i know what that is but it looks
4:44
like an old club maybe i can smell somebody's
4:51
restaurant cooking
4:57
i'm a bit spoiled for choice on where to walk
5:06
so hopefully i will choose wisely where i was going to walk was up this
5:12
street tejon in back nevada but i think
5:18
i'm going to walk up to him back on cascade maybe because
5:24
there's some uh let's go across
5:30
there are some neat houses over there you can see the mountains in the distance that's the southern rockies or
5:56
that's a little interesting there's a store up here on the left called poor richards and there's one of those in
6:04
i think it's bozeman um i know there's poor richard's almanac of brain ben franklin fame
6:12
but i wonder if it's a little chain because that one is a kind of a books gifts magazine shop as
6:18
well i think if i remember correctly and that's always talk over the music to prevent the
6:24
audio from triggering a youtube copyright issue
6:31
there's a gastropod we passed
6:41
one of the things i love about some of these cities or the
6:48
ease which they have made paid parking
6:54
you don't have to have change anymore you can use apps or credit cards rooster's house of ramen
7:02
josh and john's ice cream that sounds good i don't know if i'm in the mood for ice cream just yet
7:12
so i don't know if you can see this peaked house in the distance i think it's a church but i
7:18
really love the structure at the top of the church
7:23
well that's a church and you can tell it's 10 o'clock
7:33
wild goose meeting house
7:38
i think that's a religious thing looks like a bar
7:45
chase bank of course and then of course the rasta pasta chain
7:52
that has to blast music out and i'm just going to keep on talking and hopefully they will not
7:59
pick me out so i appreciate your patience with that and it's very uh
8:05
i don't know this u.s senate michael f bennett pardon me
8:20
i'm sure it's super annoying to listen to me rattle on as i pass those musical things but it's a little device
8:28
i use to try not to get copyright violation
8:40
it's almost like they weren't even thinking of walking videos on youtube when they
8:45
wrote the copyright laws
8:52
see that church i love that it's almost germanic it's not quite dramatic though it's almost central
8:59
european very cool i like it
9:07
all right we're crossing saint raine
9:20
hmm
9:34
hmm it is a saturday morning hence i think or well at least part of the
9:41
reason why it's not very busy
10:02
so
10:08
building half a few hold outs on the residential
10:16
side i was driving around this morning looking for a place to walk
10:23
i kept seeing stuff i wanted to show you guys
10:29
and one of the streets i came down was this one and there's this short bit of
10:35
commercial stuff but
10:42
all throughout get little houses like this not little but sizable houses that are
10:48
pretty it's actually a salon we're going to be crossing williamette
10:56
and then you tuck back there and you see some more houses and that's the direction we'll come back
11:04
or you can look to the right and see more houses and i just i really like these style of
11:11
houses they're so beautiful they're not really maybe they're victorian
11:17
well i think i'm a little after victorian i think not quite as ornate
11:26
edwardian maybe i was saying the other day i don't really know uh
11:35
my architecture this the episcopal church grace and saint stevens this must be the
11:43
residence it's beautiful house love those porches but i do know enough terms
11:51
to probably make myself sound foolish
11:56
if you know what that style of that house we just looked at is or the church comment
12:04
i'd love to know giant church hearing
12:16
very cool
12:31
i'm sorry for that wind
12:36
hopefully the microphone muff thing is catching it
12:43
keeping it at a minimum i have this scottie makes vertical axis
12:50
stabilizer but if i tilt it up too high um it sort of locks
13:01
it goes vertical and then when i set it back down to go horizontal
13:07
it does that little jerky motion
13:12
otherwise it's a great tool
13:27
this is we just crossed monument street monument street
13:41
[Applause]
13:47
hear the chickadees out i think that's what those are
14:03
[Applause]
14:14
so
14:26
[Applause] so we're coming up on colorado college
14:31
and i'm actually going to save that for another walk
14:39
go out here real quick some old apartment buildings looks like
14:46
maybe offices former apartment buildings looks like
14:52
people are living upstairs
14:59
this is dale street coming up here this crossing we're gonna make a left on dale
15:05
i think that's the right thing to do yeah and we will do colorado college
15:13
on our next walk i think is going to be my plan
15:18
and uh i love this little place this is unitarian universalist church
15:27
somebody's cooking something cinnamony and then
15:32
sure i think this might be apartments cool whole building love those round
15:39
turret things i don't know how practical they are i've never actually lived in a house
15:45
with a turret as i'm sure i'm not unique in that
15:52
but i guess if you had a built-in desk or maybe a chair it'd be a beautiful place to read
15:57
a book in the sunlight
16:13
then we've got this other multiple super modern building i assume that's part of the college
16:20
i don't know we'll find here later and then this cool house over here
16:27
with a flat roof but the eaves stick out
16:32
it's kind of neat trying not to get run over as we go take a look
16:46
somebody's got their gardens out in the median i wish we had a wide enough median to do that
16:53
try and scoot in front of these folks hi there
17:03
[Applause] i didn't really get to show you the
17:09
thieves sorry i'm gonna swing around and you can kind of see it up there
17:17
anyway i don't want to oversell it
17:22
not the coolest thing in the world but close
17:28
i make myself laugh sometimes okay off to the right is colorado
17:34
college as i mentioned and this is cascade which
17:40
also goes downtown has these awesome houses see that i don't even know which side to
17:47
go on honestly probably
17:52
awesome we'll go on this side
18:02
i think that's the best choice
18:18
look at that place that's awesome
19:21
it's nice to be able to walk without wearing gloves again i think it's
19:28
warming up fairly quickly i think it's a high of 43 today that's what they're calling for
19:38
not quite there but we're getting there
19:44
neat old truck too
19:54
um tempting to go down into that area
20:02
senior living facility
20:09
look at that that's kind of actually a nice modernist building i think over there
20:14
i don't know if you can see it there's a bite sharing program here
20:19
called pike ride that's about all i know they might be
20:26
electric they can't be electric can they oh look at this i like it
20:38
uh look at this i can't i can't imagine they're electric
20:45
as there's no charging if you know let me know comment
20:54
somebody's got a i just i love this statue i love cranes too so that this might be
21:01
herons i've been fooled before sounds like an alarm is going off of some sort
21:22
this is the cascade park apartments
21:34
a pretty cool building to live in both of these
21:45
across the way is some other homes
21:52
i wonder if this was part of these must have been mansions at some point
22:03
i'm not really sure where all this money would have come from
22:08
other than mining
22:13
yeah mansions manors and carriage houses
22:20
they sure are ornate
22:25
coming up on williamette
23:06
hmm there's my church over there that i like
23:14
obviously not mine
23:48
so more apartments from old
23:56
uh homes pardon me
24:16
so very cool coordinate places
24:28
i thought those upstairs places have really nice views
24:37
this is saint vrain again
24:50
this looks like a an old government building it's converted to young life which is if
24:56
you don't know is a youth christian organization i used to go do
25:04
young young life stuff when i was a kid middle middle school age i think
25:11
early high school
25:40
hmm
26:08
hmm look at these houses
26:17
that uh blue one on the left proportionally looks similar to the one on the right but it's so much bigger
26:26
both cool houses
26:34
this is boulder obviously if you can see that sign still on cascade
26:48
christ of course i'm sorry across first church of christ's scientist
26:58
i think we are going to go down to boulder crescent off to the right here because it's cool
27:05
houses
27:10
and we are really close to downtown i'm going to go out this way walk down
27:16
the street
27:32
um
28:06
i find it interesting what houses and buildings manage to stay
28:14
and others get knocked down to put up apartment
28:19
buildings look at that beautiful house as i imagine at some point they just
28:25
last so long they retain their value
28:32
enough that there's that really makes sense to knock down again
28:47
or somebody holds on to it for so long
28:53
and then finally the next generation gets a hold of it or some other entity
29:01
so we had that yellow house back there then we have this uh not new apartment building i would
29:08
guess 60 to 80 years old and then you've got
29:13
this brand new thing which looks like it's gonna be pretty cool
29:19
and then across the street you have these tiny little places i mean we're literally two blocks from
29:25
downtown and you have these little bungalows they're not little houses actually
29:31
they're sizable just compared to what we've been seeing
29:36
and yet they're still here they haven't been knocked down maybe at
29:42
some point there's a historical district of some sort that protects them
29:50
whoa it's getting icy over here it's a perilous temperature
29:56
where just right around freezing stuff has melted refrozen made it all
30:02
slick and it hasn't quite melted but a little bit just enough to make this sheet ice wet
30:10
tricky tricky tricky all right we're coming up on west view
30:18
place and the park also down here
30:26
and that interstate the distance is interstate 25
30:33
it's the major north south artery
30:39
and i just want to get a view of this park real quick i don't know anything about it
30:46
other than it seems to extend off to the north there
30:52
[Music] and there's a maybe it doesn't maybe i can't get across the creek or that
30:58
river i'll try to look up what that
31:04
is i've got
31:10
not a lot of power on my phone excuse me so i've got it dimmed down
31:16
and hard to see
31:25
monument creek
31:38
again these little houses here
31:44
just on the very edge of downtown you can see this super tall buildings in the background
31:54
a couple intrepid canada
31:59
off geese the right
32:17
i think that must be a power plant releasing all that steam down there and you've got the mountains in the background absolutely beautiful
32:26
they're calling for snow in the mountains this afternoon but i don't see it not
32:31
this far south but who knows
32:54
hmm
33:02
[Music] trying to get a view of the sign bijou street again okay so i'm not sure
33:10
what church that is and i'm tempted to cross but
33:16
traffic is [Music] a little scary
33:28
got the hilton garden inn which is downtown and i think we walked around that in the
33:34
earlier walk [Music]
33:57
i think that church must be saint mary's i see a couple saint mary's cathedral signs
35:20
i like it when i catch the light because these lights i was noticing this
35:25
morning these lights last forever a few of them anyway
35:35
i may be hyperbolizing there
35:42
oops um
36:11
bookstores comic books
36:27
i feel like i must have come down here maybe it was in the last walk yeah it must have been
36:35
so we are covering some uh pre-existing
36:43
ground a guy and shorts and no shirt wildly skateboarding down the street i
36:50
love it so we're coming back to the park but i'm going to keep going just a little bit
36:56
because i want to explore the other side i'd originally planned to come down the eastern
37:03
version of that street nevada and uh
37:11
changed my mind and also i can comment about
37:18
i know it's a cliche about people being on their phones all the time but in the la yesterday i was walking
37:25
around saw a fair number of people out and about and uh i didn't see nearly the number of
37:32
people just hanging out on their phones and i don't know what it is about here
37:38
but i've seen a ton of them and i wonder if they're playing pokemon go or
37:44
waiting for a spot in a restaurant in the sun i don't know anyway
37:52
we're back to the park we smelled a lot of marijuana
38:00
and we're going to continue over to nevada street
38:09
i see some dogs anxiously sticking their heads out of the car
38:16
window waiting for their owners to come back
38:24
i assume hi pups how you doing
38:30
hmm they look like they would bark
38:55
hmm oh yeah the pioneers museum it was i if you're interested in the
39:01
pioneer museum i walked around the outside of it in my earlier walk it's a very cool
39:07
museum at least from the outside i'd love to go see the inside
39:14
have to hustle here [Music]
39:27
i think i'm just going to keep going this direction see what we find
39:33
this is the y the ymca here
39:47
a lot of uh there's a group of people exercising in there
39:53
why mca stands for young men's christian association and i assume that was its origins but
40:00
i'm not sure what they really their primary mission is now they have a lot of athletic facilities
40:08
around
40:24
i'm hoping after another block we'll see something interesting here again this is a bit of an exploration
40:39
i have to wait to see what street this is when i can see a
40:50
sign
41:04
weber street
41:10
and i think we're going to go down this little hill here and see what's
41:16
there although i'm a little hesitant because i
41:21
parked by the park and i don't want to get too far from my my car
41:28
it looks interesting down here so we'll check it out
42:01
gonna end up on wasatch looks like a busy road
42:26
what i saw these houses down here and i thought maybe there would be a neighborhood well it looks like there's
42:32
a neighborhood but off to the left there's also mcdonald's
42:42
uh
42:49
and then more fast food down that way well we'll go across
42:57
let's see what's off to the right here
43:24
so
43:38
yeah we do get into a neighborhood back here
43:52
nice
44:05
just hit my 10 000 steps for the day
44:11
[Applause]
44:34
hello we'll go down here to this little park and check that out
44:46
this is less mansiony but still a cute little area
44:51
neighborhood makes me think of the midwest for some reason maybe it's all the non-heart non-soft
44:59
woods all the hardwoods here all of that cottonwoods can't really be a hardwood
45:23
john prairie dog o'byrne park down that way and more houses down this way so i think
45:30
we'll go check out this creek
45:42
i think we're going to call it we're at 40 something minutes appreciate you guys joining me this morning here in colorado
45:48
springs hope you enjoyed the walk i've enjoyed walking around with you
45:54
leave us a comment your feedback your thoughts your stories i love hearing them and then of course
46:02

46:08
next time we will see you again soon until then as
46:13
we cross corona and bijou street here uh we'll see you again soon
46:20
