0:01
hello walkers and welcome to colorado college in colorado springs colorado
0:08
lots of colorado's there um it is about 38 degrees 11 30
0:16
in the morning 38 degrees that's got to be four or five degrees celsius i have no
0:22
idea honestly um and i'm going to walk you around colorado college which is mostly that
0:31
way and then we'll go into the old north end historic neighborhood but i wanted to
0:39
start off at the north end of colorado college and we'll walk sort of do a loop or a circuit through
0:46
the through around the campus sorry
0:52
and i'll talk a little bit and i'll try to not talk so much
0:57
but first of things first thank you for joining me joining us uh it my name is
1:05
henry and i will be your proxy walker it's a little term i came up with your virtual travel guide on today's
1:12
tour as i take you around this part of colorado springs
1:18
give us a comment if you would i love hearing your stories if you've been to colorado college if you have stories from colorado springs
1:25
or if you have feedback on this channel i appreciate it got a lot of cool houses and
1:31
architecture here and i'm going to show you that today like and
1:36
like the video if you would and subscribe if you are into these virtual treadmill walks in
1:42
the virtual treadmill scenery videos um and click the bell you'll get
1:48
notified or you should get notified if or no it's right now if when we post
1:53
new videos uh and that's about that beautiful day
1:59
here in colorado springs this is my third walk here and i'm
2:05
pretty impressed with this area anyway it's a beautiful city this is a beautiful part of the city
2:14
and i'm just having a good time colorado college was founded in the 1870s it's a private
2:22
liberal arts college and only has approximately 2 000 students according to the
2:30
the wikipedi wikipedia article that i read and i will try to link that in the
2:36
youtube description there's some geese
2:41
i'm gonna loop down here this is bocher hall
2:47
anyway i'm surprised that that's all the students they have
2:53
it's a big place for that it's 96 acres but there's a lot of these
2:59
buildings and a lot of you know those buildings cost money to build and they cost money
3:04
to maintain and i would not have thought that 2 000
3:09
students would be sufficient i went to a school with about that
3:16
number though and i guess over time you acquire the assets and
3:22
endowments etc lynn chaney apparently graduate from here you may have heard of her recently with
3:30
she's a representative in the united states house of representatives from
3:35
wyoming her father is dick cheney former vice president etc
3:42
um anyway that's what i got from the wikipedia article
3:48
a lot of cool old buildings i'm really kind of perplexed
3:53
by where the money has come from
4:00
for colorado springs because there's a lot of beautiful old very large buildings in the area
4:05
we'll see more of those when we go into the north end historic district obviously
4:12
you know this the school is less than 150 years old
4:17
and yet they have all these wonderful magnificent buildings you can see some
4:24
further back down there maybe some of these were houses and then
4:30
they were incorporated into the college
4:36
got a little bit of a breeze here hopefully that is not uh messing up the audio it's always a
4:45
challenge one of the biggest challenges for this filming these walks is the audio
4:55
it's a cool little campus i mean look at i'm partial to these old
5:01
buildings um it's it's a saturday morning so it's not really busy
5:08
get a better look at this building oh look at that one too um i'm trying not to pan too much
5:15
and at the same time give you guys a good view of things
5:22
as i walk i don't know maybe i'm being naive about the size but i just find it surprising
5:29
and their building will walk past a part of their building up here a massive construction
5:40
we've got a athletic facilities down there towards monument creek and monument creek park
5:47
pardon me we'll say hi to the geese here
5:53
hopefully they won't get too fussy they even have an ice arena apparently
6:57
i'm going to go ahead and tell you i don't know a lot about this place this is the lloyd
7:04
e werner campus center across the way there is the is armstrong
7:14
hall we're walking along cascade here
7:22
and we're about to uh cross cache lapudra poudre i think that's how you say that
7:28
i i was up in fort collins and did a walk up there and somebody
7:35
commented and said how you're supposed to say it pooter
7:41
poudre but i can't remember i should have paid better attention
7:54
i think we have another block here
8:00
and see more of the campus down that way
8:06
and obviously this must be the newest section newer section the graber packard hall of music oh
8:12
sperry ass and ella graber packard hall of music and art
8:26
this is the honey museum oh no money museum
8:35
american numismatic numismatic no yeah association
8:43
numismatists i believe are coin collectors
8:58
well if you're into coins which my father-in-law is
9:25
the southern rockies in the distance there
9:31
coming up to dale street and i think this is kind of
9:36
the end of the campus on the north-south border anyway
9:41
totally be wrong i'm sure there's a few more administrative buildings that nice house and i walked
9:48
further south on an earlier walk so if you are interested in the area
9:55
between here and downtown check that out probably the previous week's walk
10:26
i've got all sorts of wires going in to my jacket excuse me because that's
10:33
where i keep the audio recorder and it's right next to the microphone so
10:39
sometimes they'll be rattling around or maybe it's the tag on the zipper of my
10:44
jacket and i would rather not have that kind of audio noise
10:53
so i adjust it from time to time that's part of the
10:58
it's colorado college parking that's a unitarian church i believe
11:04
i remember correctly excuse me
11:10
this is the building i was talking about as we get up to tejon street
11:17
it's massive you know this is many millions of dollars and
11:26
i kind of have to wonder how where that money comes from
11:43
so i think what we'll do is we'll just walk back up through the center of the college
11:50
if it goes over another block to nevada so hopefully we'll get a
11:56
fairly good idea of the campus
12:04
if you are interested in college colorado college and that's why you have come to this
12:10
video please comment below let me know i'm interested i've got a playlist of
12:16
college campuses pretty impressive it really is um he's referring to the building there
12:31
anyway if i'm curious if people find value in those campus tours i know
12:37
i've gotten a couple comments from people and get out here on the road so i can see those buildings better
12:44
but i'm leery of squeaky wheel syndrome and that's i
12:50
don't mean that as a negative but you know the it's easy to think that the people who speak up represent
12:58
the majority but they might not be
13:06
it's gonna be quite a building okay back to cash lapudre i'm just gonna
13:12
say it like that which i think normally would go all the way through between cascade and nevada
13:25
and then i think there may be some administrative buildings off to the east there east of nevada but i didn't
13:31
notice any earlier driving around anything significant
14:13
i like this open space as well big quad
14:36
beautiful day out geese coming in to land
14:48
these little diagonal tracks like somebody was skate skiing
15:10
uh emergency vehicle of some sort
15:34
yes i will go down that looks pretty muddy i'll do it anyway what the heck
15:40
no i won't not because the mud but because i want to give you a better view of this main
15:46
uh haul and there's a quote on it that i'd like to read and i can't read it from that far back
16:08
sorry ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free thank you
16:32
palmer hall i believe that's what the signs are saying
17:11
hmm ooh looks like i can get through here that's good a little worried about that there's the
17:17
barnes science center over there and that looks like well i can't read
17:24
the sign too far away [Music]
17:30
i think they have a pretty massive telescope up there
19:01
well i guess i was wrong there are some things to see over here on the nevada street nevada street side
19:11
got some greek houses sigma chi over there that's a cool old building as well
19:21
[Music] sigma chi is the blue and white one behind this massive
19:26
victorian home which is part of the college i believe
19:32
we're gonna go north
19:39
this building over here is the arthur house it's a student residence apparently
19:46
that's a pretty cool place to live
19:55
we're coming up on uinta street the intersection of uinta
20:02
and colorado college i mean sir nevada
20:08
and we're going to make a left on uh because
20:15
there are some cool houses a lot of cool houses actually all along nevada excuse me but i want to get away from
20:23
the traffic a little bit it's a really busy road and i think it might be a state highway
20:33
that's what we'll do
20:45
so maybe the campus isn't quite as big as i thought is the first impression led me
20:50
to believe still pretty significant
20:58
and pretty impressive
21:04
this looks like residences over here
21:11
i guess i should have crossed the street there oh wow
21:19
you can see the southern rockies rising in the distance i think that might be pike's peak as well
21:47
i should probably look that up
22:12
[Music] yeah i think it is pike's peak
22:57
hmm i think i might be able to sneak across here
23:03
which would be ideal you're going for it
23:21
okay i'm just gonna walk down the middle of this road which is tejon because it's so wide
23:29
and why not right so the this district was an upper middle
23:35
class neighborhood i think as we get over to cascade you'll see that it was more
23:42
upper than middle but it's a state designated historic
23:57
i love these this massive wide street and i'm just gonna swing
24:06
kind of back and forth to film some of these houses
24:13
or maybe not maybe this guy's gonna come down this way
24:20
we'll just go off the sidewalk
24:30
so the plan is to go up and then swing around and make our way back down
25:12
um crossing san miguel
25:52
cross over a little bit see some of the other side of the street
26:09
you know honestly maybe it is more middle-class i don't know what the prices of these homes are but
26:16
um it's not like i'm seeing a lot of mercedes or audis or fancy cars
26:28
maybe they can't afford cars because they're maintaining their houses they're really well done well maintained
27:13
this is a beautiful day to be out for a walk
27:18
coming up to columbia street
27:31
this is for rent well realty i'm gonna have to dwell realty i'll have to
27:51
t-e-j-o-n let's cross over these are some nice houses as well
27:56
[Music] tree work being done
28:35
this is very norman rockwell an american artist who depicted
28:43
sort of these classic scenes of americana i think it was for life magazine
29:36
coming up on buena ventura
30:59
like a little church or something over here on the left luther hall
31:07
it's just a garage nope first lutheran church
31:15
oh i love these houses they're amazing
31:32
so this goes down another quarter mile half mile can't really tell
31:40
hits a hospital over on nevada nevada and cascade it keeps going
31:46
all like this significantly like this this is caramello well that's a fancy
31:54
car for sure um and just lovely homes here
32:02
beautiful day we're gonna make a left on caramelo here i'm not even sure why i'm crossing the
32:08
street honestly and then we're gonna make another left and head south on cascade
32:14
it's a little busier street much busier street but it's got a lot of cool houses on
33:16
this i think is the church or part of the church over here on the left right away we'll see
33:23
the difference in scale to the buildings over here
33:36
that one across the caddy corner recently sold
33:49
fancy building as well looks like they are working on this this
33:55
i guess is part of the church i believe it has a playground
34:03
it's next to a modern church but it was obviously constructed as a
34:09
home i think it's obvious and beautiful
34:18
of course across the street is that blue and gray or off blue
34:25
house it's apartments now
34:33
got a helicopter flying around
34:38
here's the church first lutheran
34:58
we're coming back to buena vista buena ventura
35:04
road it doesn't really say street when a ventura street
36:40
these houses just can't kind of go on forever back into the back of the lots
37:32
about to cross columbia again
37:51
so cascade is divided there's this median in the middle with trees and that sort of thing i kind
37:58
of wonder if this used to have street cars on it
38:43
[Applause] oh [Applause]
39:04
pretty blue house over there
39:17
these folks have bee hives
39:23
you can see those down there that's fun
39:30
it's i i've been asked to keep on some of these things a little bit longer which i get
39:37
i i look at them and then get my fill and look away but it's not the same when you're looking on video
39:45
that's kind of feedback it's valuable to me to help me make these better
39:53
this is san miguel again
41:09
there's a noise discount on real estate around here
41:14
how far back this house goes over here fills up the entire lot almost at least
41:21
the depth of it there's a driveway pull through driveway
41:31
i feel like that is part of the university oh right this might be the alumni house
41:37
we're back to uwenta looking south towards downtown
41:43
on cascade we are gonna come around here and head back this way
41:49
but i want to thank you guys for joining us on this tour walking tour
41:55
um treadmill virtual tour virtual walk of colorado college
42:03
and of the old north end historic district
42:11
yeah that's the tut alumni house um hope you've enjoyed it i hope you've
42:18
found it valuable share with your friends if you are into that i would be it would be very helpful to me like
42:25
subscribe and leave those comments i really do read the comments uh there has been an issue where youtube
42:30
has not been showing me all the comments but all the ones i see i read them and i
42:35
try to at least reply or acknowledge that i've read them so
42:42
they motivate me they bring me joy especially the personal ones the
42:48
personal stories and anecdotes and additional information but also value the feedback so
42:55
please keep on with that if you ever come through colorado springs check out this neighborhood it's
43:02
worth a quick drive through at least very pretty homes
43:08
and we will see you again soon i'm going to go film some more walks here but so come back and see those
43:15
until then keep on stepping
