Hello, I'm Robert Harbish, the managing
0:15
editor of City AM. I'm here with Robert
0:17
Brown, the co-founder of MAS Marcus at
0:20
the Growth 500 Awards by Business
0:22
Leader. Robert, thanks for joining us.
0:24
Yeah, no, thanks for for having us.
0:26
Um, so could you just give us a bit of
0:27
an overview of what your business does?
0:29
Yeah, absolutely. So, uh, Mass Markets,
0:32
uh, we're an FCA regulated broker. Uh,
0:34
we provide multi-asset liquidity, uh, to
0:37
professional clients. So, we have a very
0:40
very simple business model. We aggregate
0:43
tier one bank liquidity and we
0:45
distribute that to to clients. So,
0:47
that's kind of our a summary of what we
0:50
So, you you give the smaller players
0:52
access to what the big boys are doing
0:54
Yeah, exactly. We we're a kind of a
0:55
middle gap between uh like a big large
0:58
institution uh and smaller professional
1:00
clients. So sort of asset managers,
1:02
professional traders, those that don't
1:04
have access to credit intermediary, we
1:08
Yeah. And as a as a fast growing
1:11
business in fintech business in in
1:13
London, what are you really excited
1:14
about in the London fintech scene? Well,
1:17
look, I think firstly like we're quite
1:19
privileged to uh to actually have been
1:21
listed on the uh as the 32nd fastest
1:24
growing company uh in the UK. We've only
1:27
been operating for about 3 years. Uh so
1:29
that's really a big testament of all the
1:31
team that we've got in London uh which
1:34
is really focused on helping drive the
1:36
vision that we've got. Uh we've seen a
1:38
gap in the market uh where we can excel.
1:41
We've got really good partners behind us
1:43
has really helped us to support what
1:45
we're doing. Uh and I think the
1:47
challenge really is making sure for us
1:50
is is finding the right people to help.
1:52
But in London there is a lot of people
1:55
there. So from that perspective I think
1:57
the you know we've seen today some of
1:59
the massive unicorn businesses set up in
2:02
the UK. Uh you know they they bring a
2:05
lot of really good people uh to London.
2:07
So from our perspective I think it is
2:09
really exciting to be a part of that.
2:11
We're still really small as a business,
2:13
but I think having the opportunity to be
2:16
able to be part of what we're seeing is
2:18
quite a good growth phase in the fintech
2:25
it's really good to be a part of that.
2:27
And yeah, near the other side of the
2:28
equation, what are some of the main
2:29
challenges you're having to deal with
2:31
So, look, like every uh small business,
2:34
I think one of the biggest challenges we
2:36
have is resources. Like, we really want
2:38
to grow quickly. we can see the
2:40
opportunity but you know we have to
2:42
prioritize what we think is more
2:44
important you know time frames so I
2:47
think for us that's probably our biggest
2:49
challenge we can see where the
2:51
opportunities are and we need to make
2:53
sure internally we we allocate the
2:56
resources to where they need to be based
2:58
on what our client demands are really so
3:01
I think yeah like every small business
3:04
that's kind of the probably the you know
3:06
the where where we where we have a lot
3:08
of challenges Yeah. And what would you
3:10
like to see from some policy makers in
3:12
the UK to help stimulate that growth?
3:15
Look, I tried to stay away from like the
3:17
politics side and you know, obviously
3:19
from where we are based, you know, we
3:21
can only work within the framework
3:23
that's actually given to us. Uh, you
3:25
know, I think they do do a good job to
3:27
some extent to try and extend uh, you
3:30
know, opportunities to be part of uh,
3:33
you know, the grants. So there's lots of
3:35
schemes to help small businesses. So I
3:37
think they do a really good job there.
3:39
You know, other areas I think, you know,
3:41
it's really difficult to work out,
3:45
you know, you know, we concentrate on
3:46
what we do. We can't change what the
3:49
policies are being made. So we just try
3:51
and do what we can and we hope that, you
3:54
know, the UK government can start
3:56
continuing to support businesses like us
3:58
to to continue to drive forward really.
4:01
yeah. So what are you most excited about
4:03
in the business over the next 5 and 10
4:05
years? Yeah. So, uh, you know, we've got
4:08
massive plans. You know, we're really
4:10
excited about, you know, lots of the
4:13
opportunities that are available. You
4:15
know, we look at crypto space. It lends
4:18
itself very similar to what we do. The
4:20
technology that we have, the proprietary
4:22
technology we use is very complimentary
4:25
to multi-assets. We're excited about
4:28
crypto. We're excited about, you know,
4:31
continuing to grow our business. uh and
4:33
we think you know within the next I
4:35
don't know five to 10 years
4:38
we may not know it but I think a lot of
4:41
the activities are happening the onchain
4:43
part of the market's going to come
4:45
forward and people are not going to be
4:47
talking about are you in crypto or are
4:49
you not it's just going to be part of
4:53
operation so I think I'm more excited
4:55
about seeing what those opportunities
4:57
bring and hopefully in the next 5 to 10
5:00
years you know we can be listed as what
5:03
we see as some of these unicorns there
5:05
from all the hard work that we do now.
5:07
Okay, that's great. Well, Robert, thank
5:08
you very much for your time today.
5:09
Congratulations on being the fast
5:12
Yeah. No, really, thank you very much.
5:15
Yeah. No, thank you very much.
5:16
Okay, great. All right, cheers.
