Why Ed Davey's Lib Dems want a bank tax

Over the weekend the Liberal Democrats joined rallying calls for Rachel Reeves to slap a fresh levy on Britain's banking giants. The party’s Treasury spokesperson Daisy Cooper called for an annual £7bn tax grab on the lenders, citing recent profit figures from the country’s biggest lenders. It comes as Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to be staring down a fiscal black hole as wide as £20bn come the Autumn Budget.
