South Western Railway: Why train delays and cancellations are getting worse
It’s the railway line that was already one of the least popular in the country, and now, new data shows that, since it was nationalised in the spring, its performance has got even worse. I am, of course, talking about South Western Rail – which connects Waterloo down into South West London over to Reading and beyond. If you live in any of these places, you might have noticed that it is getting significantly harder to get into the capital. Delays on the line – measured by delayed minutes per 100 miles – are up 29 per cent since June and August. And the number of services arriving between 30 minutes and an hour late has more than doubled.
