Humza Yousaf has announced his resignation as First Minister of Scotland and Scottish National Party (SNP) leader. Speaking at a press conference at Edinburgh’s Bute House, the official residence of the First Minister of Scotland, Yousaf claimed he could have won the confidence votes he was facing, but said: “I am not willing to trade my values and principles, or do deals with whomever, simply for retaining power.” He said he after a weekend of reflection, he'd concluded that "repairing a relationship across the political divide can only be done with someone else at the helm". The politician, who has been leader for just 13 months, will remain in post until a successor is appointed. He said he has asked the party to begin the process of a leadership election.
