Today, the UK-India trade deal has finally been signed by Keir Starmer and Narendra Modi at Chequers. The agreement will apparently be worth £6bn, which Starmer has hailed as a “historic day” for both countries. It’s the culmination of years of negotiations, and will see tariffs on as many as 90 per cent of British exports slashed – from spirits to cars. The bilateral agreement means that the average tariff rate on Indian imports will drop from 15 per cent to just three per cent.
