How to detect a flaw in a bottle of wine? 🤔

0:00
welcome to Wine School with Libby now
0:01
when a waiter serves you that small
0:03
taster of wine at a restaurant you give
0:05
a little swirl little sniff maybe a sip
0:08
you're not doing that to see if you like
0:10
the wine or not you're actually
0:11
assessing for faults and quite a lot of
0:13
those can come through on the nose so
0:16
basically if you get the scent of wet
0:19
dog damp cardboard very muted flat no
0:22
fruit flavors that's cork taint and
0:24
that's a flaw in the bottle likewise if
0:27
you have something very acidically sharp
0:29
like nail varnish remover that again
0:31
shows volatile acidity and that's a flaw
0:33
too now some flaws and faults can also
0:36
be part of the wine- making process like
0:38
reduction or oxidation so that's a bit
0:40
of a gamble but if you're smelling a
0:42
damp dog that's a no no tell them to
0:44
send that bottle back cheers
