How Donald Trump's US-EU tariff deal averted the trade war
The EU can let out a sigh of relief now that a trade agreement between the EU and the US has been agreed upon, preventing a possible transatlantic trade war. But has the bloc conceded too much? Donald Trump and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen announced the trade deal from Trump’s Turnberry golf course on Sunday after months of negotiations between the two parties. The deal will see a 15 per cent tariff placed on EU imports to the US, swerving away from the damaging 30 per cent that was initially threatened.
