well not A lot's changed in the grocery
0:02
store over the years especially the
0:04
humble old shopping cart but even that
0:07
now is going high-tech we're getting the
0:09
first look at so's smart cart this is
0:13
high-tech it's AI enabled and it allows
0:16
you to scan and pay for all your
0:18
products right here in the aisle think
0:20
of it as a self checkout on Wheels
0:22
allowing you to skip the line The Smart
0:25
Card a first of its kind in Canada has a
0:28
built-in scanner and computer which
0:30
keeps track of everything you put in it
0:32
let's say I need some walnuts by the way
0:33
now let's do some walnuts on so there's
0:35
a barcode right and what do we just scan
0:37
it right here yeah so you'd scan the
0:38
product barcode and you'd place it
0:40
inside the shopping cart and that's it
0:42
up on the screen here it says walnuts
0:45
walnuts and it gives me the price of the
0:47
walut that's right and as I put new
0:48
items in I get a running tally of the
0:51
price right yeah that's exactly right it
0:52
means Shoppers get a real time tally of
0:55
what their current bill is with tax the
0:58
cart also features a built-in scale for
1:00
produce anything that's a produce item
1:02
what you do is you type in the code that
1:03
you'd see on the on the label there so
1:06
here I type in
1:07
465 uh this gives me the the bell
1:10
peppers here on the screen exactly so
1:11
when I select the bell peppers and I
1:13
throw them inside of the cart there's
1:16
actually a scale inside the cart here so
1:17
this actually weighed that product and
1:19
will show me that it's. 21 kg 92 cents
1:22
and I click add the cart here yeah there
1:24
it is there's the weight right there and
1:25
the price the cart is also equipped with
1:27
cameras eventually it will allow to know
1:30
exactly what you're putting in without
1:32
you having to scan anything and soie
1:34
says other features are on the way for
1:35
the smart cart including the ability to
1:37
upload your shopping list the C could
1:40
also direct you to a particular product
1:42
already available on the screen is a
1:44
realtime flyer showing store deals we're
1:47
giving them shopping recommendations or
1:49
basket recommendations based on what you
1:51
put in there shopping recommendations
1:53
yeah like what so if I basically maybe I
1:55
scan spaghetti uh the cart could tell me
1:57
hey there's a particular spaghetti sauce
1:59
on sale down down the way of course it
2:01
all begs one question is this going to
2:04
cost someone their job at soie actually
2:06
what we're seeing so far is this allows
2:08
our employee to be more on the floor to
2:11
be able to engage with our Customer
2:12
because as part of this pilot we're
2:14
going to train all of our employees
2:16
you're not planning to lay someone off
2:17
because of these cars actually freeing
2:18
up some people to be able to engage with
2:20
our customers and then there's the
2:22
question about Sticky Fingers if I say
2:26
forget to scan something Matthew how do
2:28
you control the possible St with this
2:30
the cart would recognize the change in
2:32
the weight in the cart and would just
2:34
tell you hey we think there might be
2:35
something wrong wrong now with the with
2:37
what you just did so right now if you
2:39
want to test out the uh soie smart cart
2:41
with AI technology you have to come here
2:43
to the company's Oakville Ontario store
2:45
they have 10 of the carts right now for
2:47
customers to use depending on how that
2:49
goes you could see the high-tech carts
2:51
rolled out all over the place Richard
