For more, let's bring in Florida
0:01
Congresswoman and member of the House
0:02
Oversight Committee, Anna Paulina Luna.
0:05
Congresswoman, welcome.
0:08
Hey, how are you doing?
0:09
Great. Great. So, I want to get your
0:10
reaction to the breaking news of the
0:11
moment, this report from the GAO into
0:14
the assassination attempt one year ago.
0:17
What's your reaction particularly to the
0:19
part where senior senior level Secret
0:21
Service agents received intelligence of
0:23
a possible threat about 10 days before
0:26
the assassination attempt?
0:29
This type of negligence, in my opinion,
0:32
is not accidental. It's intentional. I,
0:34
as you know, I am actually the chairman
0:36
of the declassification of federal
0:38
secrets. And I've investigated one of
0:40
the most uh famous assassinations in US
0:43
history. That's a JFK assassination. And
0:44
in my opinion, the way that this was
0:46
handled, not to mention, if you recall,
0:48
I was actually able to directly
0:50
interview the Secret Service director
0:52
when she testified to Congress. And we
0:53
had whistleblowers that came forward to
0:55
Senator Holly's office and stated that
0:57
Secret Service never even met with local
0:59
law enforcement. That angle in which the
1:01
president was shot from was actually
1:03
left in my opinion open and this reeks
1:04
of an inside job. You know, um I'm going
1:07
to say it. I will tell you that they had
1:09
plans for him to be dead, but God had
1:10
other plans and President Trump is
1:12
blessed because of it. What is your
1:14
assessment of where things stand in the
1:16
House Oversight Committee after the
1:17
Ashley Williams testimony and after
1:20
President Biden's doctor pled the fifth
1:22
earlier this week?
1:24
Um, it is no no um question to me that
1:28
Biden was suffering from some form of
1:30
cognitive issues. Remember, I was the
1:32
only member of Congress to go after
1:34
Meritt Garland and actually try to hold
1:36
him in inherent contempt for hiding
1:37
those her tapes. Um, I will tell you
1:39
that this is just confirmation of
1:40
something that we knew all along. And I
1:42
will also tell you that when my um
1:44
district was actually hit by hurricanes
1:46
that I was able to then talk to
1:48
President Biden at the time, but it
1:50
doesn't mean that he wasn't suffering
1:51
from issues. And what I will tell you is
1:53
that this type of thing can't happen
1:55
again in the future. I do think that
1:56
there should be some form of cognitive
1:58
test that should be released to the
2:00
public for elected officials, not just
2:01
the president, but for members of
2:03
Congress, because on both sides, we've
2:05
had members that have served for too
2:06
long, sometimes um obviously suffering
2:08
from those issues. And because of the
2:10
nature of our job, you have to make sure
2:12
that a you are able to a be there
2:14
mentally, but also two that you are able
2:15
to make decisions. Remember, we have the
2:17
ability to vote on war. And god forbid
2:19
this happens sometime again in the
2:20
future. We can't afford these types of
2:22
mistakes to happen. Mental decline is a
2:23
very real thing when you get older in
2:25
age.
2:25
To another hot topic, there's clearly
2:27
friction between Attorney General Pam
2:29
Bondi and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bonino
2:32
over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein
2:34
files. What's your assessment of that?
2:37
And I think many of us were expecting we
2:39
would get a lot more details about those
2:41
files in a public release.
2:45
Um, you know, Deputy Director Bonino is
2:47
an American patriot and I really hope
2:49
that he stays the deputy director at the
2:52
FBI. I think to lose him would be a loss
2:55
for the entire nation. What I will also
2:57
tell you though is I believe the reason
2:59
why Americans are so frustrated with
3:01
this process is because of the way um
3:03
that there has been conflicting
3:05
information out of the Department of
3:06
Justice. And so what I'm going to be
3:08
doing along with my task force is
3:10
requesting information not pertaining to
3:12
victims, not pertaining to CSAM that
3:15
should be out there for the American
3:16
people to decide. But I will say that
3:17
the way that the administration rolled
3:19
out the JFK files of which by the way
3:21
there has been groundbreaking
3:22
discoveries in those rollouts is
3:24
literally the gold standard for
3:26
declassification and there is uh trust
3:29
in transparency and so I will encourage
3:31
them to continue to do that.
3:32
The Trump Justice Department is now
3:33
investigating two people who
3:35
investigated President Trump, John
3:37
Brennan and James Comey. What are your
3:40
expectations in terms of that work?
3:44
Well, it appears and and this is
3:46
something that is not just my opinion,
3:48
but the opinion of many intelligent
3:50
investigators that the way that that
3:52
whole thing rolled out did indeed wreak
3:53
of a setup. And what I will also tell
3:55
you is that those people being in such
3:57
high positions of power for them to be
3:59
grossly abusing civil rights of American
4:01
citizens, they should be held
4:03
accountable. And I think that there's
4:04
going to be very serious investigation
4:06
and I I also believe legal charges
4:07
against them for what they did to the
4:09
president. But not just the president. I
4:10
think that they grossly exploited the
4:11
system as as a whole. We will follow
4:13
that. This week, the United States
4:15
Supreme Court blocked Florida's new
4:17
immigration law that would make it a
4:19
crime to enter Florida after entering
4:21
the country illegally. Are you
4:24
disappointed with the conservative
4:26
Supreme Court?
4:29
Um, I can tell you that I've been
4:31
disappointed with the Supreme Court on
4:32
many issues. Ultimately, that's their
4:34
ruling. But I will tell you this, it is
4:36
grossly irresponsible for people to
4:38
continue to encourage illegal
4:39
immigration. It hurts people on both
4:41
sides. We just saw a few days ago, you
4:43
saw there was the ICE raid in
4:45
California. There were children that
4:47
were actually working on those farms.
4:48
But it's not the first time that
4:49
children have been caught being
4:50
exploited in massive corporate farming
4:52
operations. It also happened at Purdue
4:55
and Tyson chicken farms where minors
4:57
were actually caught working in the
4:58
slaughter houses. And so, it's time that
5:00
Congress serve as a deterrence and
5:02
increase the mandatory punishment for
5:04
some of these corporations that are
5:05
hiring child migrants. I will also tell
5:07
you, look, I am the first
5:09
Mexican-American elected representative
5:11
from the state of Florida to the House
5:12
of Representatives. And to think that
5:14
this whole argument has become a focused
5:16
on race and b um if you supposedly want
5:18
border security, you're all of a sudden
5:20
xenophobic and racist, I condemn that
5:22
thought because what I will tell you is
5:23
that Barack Obama had the very same
5:25
perspective. Yet, you're not seeing the
5:26
name calling and the protesting that's
5:28
taking place today.
5:30
We'll have to leave it there.
5:30
Congresswoman Anna and Luna, thank you
5:32
so much for your time today. Great to
5:34
see you.
