Adieu to Norman – Sunday Song 09 25 22

At a Joan Mitchell retrospective at the Baltimore Museum of Art this summer, one of the artifacts was a typewritten letter by poet Frank O'Hara, "Adieu to Norman, Bonjour to Joan and Jean Paul." I found it somehow incredibly touching – even though it had little or nothing to do with my life, it seemed to be about all the hope and busyness and personal drama around young creatives, and that feeling of wondering if you'll ever make anything of yourself. So I decided to experiment with it a bit, just trying to recite it over some very simple chord progressions. I may come back and do it more seriously at some point, but this is an all-in-one take version and I think there's something there. I performed this out at a couple of open mics and didn't hate how it came out.
