We're the only government that says "It's not our money, it's the people's money"
May 18, 2025
We're the only government that says this: It's not our money, it's the people's money. It's not our money. It's your money that you're paying into the system. If we have extra money, that $3 billion goes back into people's pockets, that stirs the economy.

yeah the next question comes in from
0:02
Mark Mallister
0:04
um the budget had a lot of relief in it
0:07
for uh the future impacts of tariffs but
0:11
how about direct relief for taxpayers
0:13
and the cost of living going up are we
0:15
looking at rebate checks too with that
0:17
uh and if you can comment also on that
0:19
$5 billion fund yeah so the $5 billion
0:22
uh is to protect people protect
0:23
communities protect businesses we're
0:25
going to focus on the businesses that
0:27
have been hit by the the tariffs right
0:29
off the hop they're going to be getting
0:30
a a billion dollars to make sure they
0:32
they keep uh you know keep on their feet
0:35
and and keep creating jobs but I ran on
0:38
protecting Ontario and I'm going to
0:39
protect every single person every
0:41
business every community uh no matter
0:43
what and I you know I always say with a
0:46
budget you look at it two ways and Peter
0:48
Betham Falvi and Caroline Mel Rooney
0:50
just they're spectacular i'm so blessed
0:52
to have them and I know my colleagues
0:54
agree you two do do two things in a
0:57
budget either slash and burn that I've
0:59
never done i never will i don't believe
1:01
in slashing and burning when we have
1:03
tough economic times you pour money into
1:06
the infrastructure into projects like
1:08
this keep people working you know we we
1:11
we'll get through it just like exactly
1:13
like the pandemic you spend a little bit
1:15
when when you're finding it's really
1:17
tough and uh you make it up a year or
1:20
two years down the road but we have a
1:21
good path to balance as uh Peter
1:24
Bethamalvi mentioned my great minister
1:26
of finance we're in the best financial
1:28
shape we've ever been in in 15 years we
1:30
have the best uh financial record in all
1:33
of Canada uh we we have some money put
1:36
away uh for crisis that may may come
1:39
upon us but he the budget was fabulous
1:42
because it is about investing another
1:45
another $6 billion into uh healthcare
1:49
folks we're we are spending
1:52
unprecedented amount in healthcare we're
1:54
up to $91
1:57
billion when I when I tell our
1:59
counterparts that across the country or
2:01
tell uh our our governors that come up
2:03
to meet me they they can't believe it
2:05
that we're we're in I call it an
2:07
investment it's not spending it's
2:09
investing into the future of our
2:10
healthcare into technology into doctors
2:13
and nurses we've registered over 16,000
2:16
new doctors 100,000 new nurses building
2:19
new medical schools um that's what we do
2:22
when when you know you find it tough on
2:24
the uh President Trump coming after us
2:31
thanks on the horizon the tariffs get to
2:36
We never we never ruled that out uh
2:38
because similar to the last time we saw
2:40
$3 billion more revenues uh come in and
2:43
and it went to our cabinet and it took
2:46
us about 3 seconds to say and we're by
2:48
the way we're the only government that
2:50
says this it's not our money it's the
2:53
people's money it's not our money it's
2:54
your money that you're paying into the
2:56
system if we have extra money that $3
2:59
billion goes back into people's pockets
3:01
that stirs the economy you put $200 in
3:04
every man woman and child's pockets it
3:07
it may not seem a lot but it allows them
3:09
to go out like I said maybe for dinner
3:11
maybe let's go to Wasaga Beach and uh SP
3:14
spend that money let's buy my kids
3:16
sneakers or it it just stirs up the
3:18
economy again so I I always say the
3:21
worst place to give your money is the
3:22
government you can spend it so much
3:24
better than the government and uh we'll
3:27
we'll never rule that out of uh giving
3:29
more money back to the the people in all
3:31
all forms no matter if it's getting rid
3:33
of the tolls or uh the one fair i know
3:37
it doesn't affect people up here but if
3:38
you go down down to Barry you hop on a
3:41
GO train it's one fair if you hop on the
3:43
TTC or to Missaga Transit I've never
3:46
ever raised a tax i will never raise a
3:48
tax they'll keep putting money back into
3:51
people's pockets into businesses because
3:52
when you do that businesses will invest
3:56
it number one in their people they'll
3:57
invest in their technology into the
4:00
infrastructure be it building or or into
4:02
equipment in technology so that's what
4:05
we believe in and it's worked because
4:07
we've seen massive investment around the
4:09
world coming to uh Ontario
