This is Speaker Kevin McCarthy's favorite place in U.S. Capitol. He explains why
'I want to hold the first press conference here, just where those cameras sit, as you listen to my speech, my favorite place in this building. The reason it's my favorite place is it is a little quiet, this was the first chamber after we moved from Philadelphia. That is where Abraham Lincoln’s desk was. In the back of the chamber, one term congressman, with all the challenges America faced, long hours, tough work, but imagine the times he would look over at Cleo. Cleo write down what transpired. He looked at the clock. Wondering how long it would go. The same view, the same clock. If Cleo continues to inscribe what happened in the last 5 days, past the rules package, no longer the power rests with a few but the voices of America who they elect.' (Rep. Kevin McCarthy, D-California, Speaker of the House, 12 Jan 2023).
