thanks for that Mark while according to
0:01
Dave metso women are objects of Wonder
0:04
they miraculously transform adversity
0:06
into Triumph and he has compiled a book
0:08
of miraculous stories by Wonder Woman
0:10
from all over the world well after the
0:12
death of his precious wife Monique his
0:14
book pays tribute to her and the many
0:16
women who have changed Society despite
0:18
adversity all of this through love
0:20
endurance and understanding Dave joins
0:22
us in studio to share some of the moving
0:24
stories captured in Miracle woman
0:26
triumphing over adversity good morning
0:29
David so great to have you in studio
0:31
with us hello Stacy thank you very much
0:33
for having me you flew up from deran all
0:34
the way to chat all the way from der to
0:36
chat good flight chat with us um it's
0:38
really a fantastic book just reading
0:40
some of the stories last night I read um
0:42
one of the the final Stories the one
0:44
about Jessica and I really I was brought
0:47
to tears and I I actually I don't
0:50
understand how some of these women um
0:52
got through the pain and the horror of
0:55
what they experienced to the point where
0:57
they could share it so openly um um with
1:00
the rest of the world with with South
1:01
Africa but you certainly got them to
1:03
confide in you well um that's why I call
1:06
them butterflies because because they
1:08
did they they went into this you know
1:09
this caterpillar was the experience that
1:11
ugly experience and then for a for a
1:14
while it was like a dark cocoon
1:16
depression but then being an object of
1:19
Wonder this miraculum you know the woman
1:21
thing um she and and and many like her
1:25
have have taken a different stance on
1:27
things so they said you know what I'm
1:28
not a victim I'm a survivor as J says in
1:31
her story and so they come out of the
1:33
Cocoon and they spread their beautiful
1:35
colorful wings and they share it with
1:37
the world and they you know they they're
1:38
instilling hope um for for other um
1:41
survivors victims of of rape so yeah the
1:44
butterfly stories are are quite
1:46
astounding and for me it was a wonderful
1:48
experience to to be able to go through
1:50
those things because I thought that my
1:51
own story you know was quite a thing
1:53
well I mean just going back to your old
1:55
sto Your Own Story uh in chapter one you
1:57
open the chapter with when a man marries
1:59
he sweethart he changes tell me about
2:02
Monique and and how she changed your
2:04
life have we got a few
2:06
hours you know just very briefly um
2:09
because I realized the time is short is
2:10
that um when I I I I was running many
2:13
many businesses at the time and I needed
2:16
a secretary yeah and so I I went to my
2:19
banker and I knew that his secretary was
2:21
very very efficient besides beautiful
2:24
and so I I asked if you wouldn't mind
2:26
you know having an interview with me
2:28
just to talk about maybe moving over to
2:30
me you know as a as an employee so
2:33
that's what we did we went to
2:35
lunch and in the lunch we didn't talk
2:37
about business whatsoever she was like a
2:40
a breath of fresh air to me I couldn't
2:41
believe that that woman like this
2:43
existed you know um she had this
2:45
infectious Little Giggle and and and she
2:47
wasn't flirtatious at all you know and
2:49
neither was I because I was a very stoic
2:51
kind of individual very disciplined but
2:53
something had happened and in that
2:55
moment I realized that um there were
2:58
bounds that I was crossing here that I
3:00
really shouldn't be Crossing as I say I
3:01
was quite you know disciplined and I was
3:04
trying to I was trying to be a righteous
3:05
boy but um it it just happened and and
3:08
so she went back uh to her place of
3:10
employment went back to the bank and
3:12
that afternoon I found her and I said
3:14
listen can we meet for coffee this
3:15
evening uh or this late in the afternoon
3:18
when she finished work so we went to a
3:19
little coffee shop and I fell in love
3:21
with her at that coffee shop she was
3:23
talking across the table and she was so
3:25
you know full of love and life and
3:26
whatever you and I thought to myself wow
3:29
now I understand what this feeling is
3:30
cuz I didn't quite understand it at
3:31
lunch yeah but at the coffee I
3:33
understood it it was it was something
3:35
I'd never experienced in my life before
3:36
I want to read excer from your book and
3:39
um it really just highlights um why this
3:42
is such such a powerful book because
3:44
Dave's wife passed away uh from breast
3:47
cancer and we celebrate breast cancer in
3:49
October and Dave mentioned that this
3:51
wasn't the reason why you decided to
3:53
publish and release the book at this
3:54
particular time just perhaps it
3:55
coincided but this particular paragraph
3:58
Kelsey was stroking her mom's hair and
3:59
saying goodbye when Eden arrived I went
4:02
out to meet her my vision was blurred by
4:04
tears but I saw her running towards me
4:06
down the corridor fear and questioning
4:08
on her face I knelt and held her in her
4:10
arms mommy is in a lot of pain my
4:12
darling and she cannot bear it anymore
4:14
she's going to live much she isn't going
4:16
to live much longer come and tell her
4:18
how much you love her and say thank you
4:20
for being such a wonderful mother come
4:22
and say goodbye to Mom that must have
4:24
been such a difficult moment not just
4:26
for you but for your daughters terrible
4:29
I mean it's very difficult for me to
4:30
actually talk about it because um and
4:32
that was the most difficult part of
4:33
writing the whole book is is to having
4:35
to go over the stories and and and I
4:37
have to tell the same story over and
4:38
over again yeah um because Monique and I
4:40
were one in every sense of the word we
4:42
were so to um to have gone through that
4:46
experience it just it just destroyed me
4:48
just destroyed me and you know the
4:49
children but but the truth is is that in
4:52
writing the book okay because I wanted
4:54
to it didn't start out as as writing a
4:56
book of this nature I was just writing
4:59
perhaps for therapy perhaps as I said in
5:01
one of the pages that I I I had a little
5:03
heading saying why I've written the book
5:04
and really it was try trying to
5:06
reconnect with money you see to relive
5:08
those experiences that I had so enjoyed
5:10
and um then because she she has this
5:14
online um women's organization women's
5:17
lifestyle I think you saw that there um
5:19
and she had 30,000 women in South Africa
5:21
on her daa base so I sent out a a
5:23
message to them to say if you've got any
5:25
stories of you know difficulty that
5:27
you've overcome let me know yeah and
5:29
then was a huge amount of therapy for me
5:32
and that's why I think to a large extent
5:33
the book kind of like encompasses a
5:36
healing is because it was a healing for
5:37
me um but for all the writers all those
5:40
beautiful women that had contributed
5:41
these stories it was a healing for them
5:43
as well so I'm told you know overall I
5:46
feel that the it's not really a book I
5:48
think that this is an experience yes I
5:50
and I can completely agree with you and
5:52
U many women out there if you've ever
5:54

5:56
