is a recipe for frustration and overwhelmed. And worst of all, for never actually developing the ability to speak the language

The thing that really brought us together was this shared excitement for what language acquisition can do

In a sense, and this is going to sound hyperbolic, but I really believe it

learning a language is life-changing. It's what you know. It's the first time that I've ever been

The nouriture, the meyer of the world. We've taught ourselves a lot of languages

Over the course of doing this, we've realized that there's a better way

to learn languages than the one we had in high school, the one that was developed by a technical linguist

Most methods focus way too much on granular rules or useless vocabulary

or they make false promises that you can learn a language to fluency

by spending five minutes a day on some gamified app What lacking here is a clear why a clear explanation for what you learning and a clear strategy These methods don work which explains why people can take four years of high school French and walk away not being able to hold a conversation in French

There is a better way. Through a lot of experimentation and a fair amount of research, we have found practical ways to distill language down to the most useful pieces
