Hey guys, welcome back to the channel.
0:02
It's Janet and Verun. And in this video,
0:05
we're talking about our trip from Miami
0:08
to Spain. And in this particular video,
0:11
this is all about when we landed in
0:14
Spain in Madrid. And uh so this is the
0:17
second part to that uh to that previous
0:21
video. So if you haven't seen that yet,
0:22
make sure you go and check it out. It's
0:24
probably going to show up on one of
0:25
these corners. Um, we decided to go with
0:29
Iberia, which is a Spanish airline out
0:32
of all the airlines that we could have
0:33
gone. And Rockruff is eating something.
0:37
Yeah, there we go. That's Rockruff.
0:41
So, we took two, we had two different
0:44
flights um that left from Miami back to
0:47
back. One at 5:00 in the evening and the
0:51
other one around 9ish. 10 basically at
0:54
10. So, 5 hours difference.
0:55
>> Yeah. because we have uh nine pets and
0:58
it was impossible to bring them in just
1:01
one airline. Actually, we have to go
1:04
through the whole process to trying to
1:06
make sure that we have all the spas in
1:08
that airline that nobody else is going
1:10
to have a pet
1:11
>> on that flight
1:12
>> on that flight. So, that's why we had to
1:14
take two flights because the amount of
1:17
pets that we were bringing with us to
1:19
Spain. And the one thing that we should
1:22
make very clear is
1:24
um there was absolutely no way we were
1:27
going to leave any of them behind. So
1:29
yeah, so we had two backto-back flights.
1:32
One that left at 5:00 in the afternoon
1:34
and one at 10:00. And like Janice said,
1:36
the reason for that is because there's
1:38
only a certain number of pets allowed
1:41
per flight. And all right, so we got to
1:44
Madrid safe and sound. Welcome back to
1:47
our video, guys. And so, um, continuing
1:51
part number two of our three or four
1:54
part series. Um, we arrived in Madrid.
1:58
What time was it? It was basically an 8
2:00
hour 8 8 hour flight
2:03
>> from Miami to Madrid. And, uh, when we
2:06
got when we landed, we had to deboard
2:09
immediately. And we jumped on a quick
2:12
shuttle bus that took us to the
2:15
terminal.
2:15
>> And we have we were with the uh, three
2:17
cats. which one was sick.
2:19
>> Yeah, he didn't do very well on the
2:23
flight. He was, I guess, nauseous. So,
2:26
that was
2:28
that was interesting to say the least.
2:30
>> Even the Iberia is amazing. Like, it's
2:34
not a space between
2:36
you and
2:38
>> the chair in front of you. chair in
2:39
front of you or the seat next to you and
2:42
with a cat that is sick and like with
2:44
everybody else kind of,
2:46
>> you know, it's it's a lot.
2:49
>> Yeah. And um one thing I will say though
2:52
is uh the food on the flight was
2:54
delicious. Our kids enjoyed it. They
2:56
were they were loving it. Uh they they
3:00
love the sweets as well. I think there
3:01
was like a cheesecake that they gave us
3:04
and um Kiana Kiana was enjoying that.
3:07
So, we landed at the airport. We hopped
3:09
on a quick shuttle bus to take us to the
3:12
terminal. And because we had the three
3:15
cats, we were the last ones off the
3:16
plane cuz I didn't know. I didn't know
3:19
that we had to deplane so quickly and
3:22
take a shuttle bus. I didn't know. This
3:24
is my first time there. And they're like
3:26
rushing us. And I'm like, "Dude, I have
3:28
three pets here. One which is not
3:30
feeling well." And um they were rushing
3:33
us and I was starting to get a little
3:34
little frustrated like what the heck's
3:37
happening here, you know? But um then I
3:39
realized there's a a bus waiting for us.
3:42
Everybody on the plane is looking at us
3:45
like these are the same folks that came
3:47
on earlier and they took their time. So
3:50
yeah, it was it was a little bit of a
3:53
juggle um with the bags, with the kids.
3:56
It wasn't just us and the cats, you
3:58
know, it would have been okay,
3:59
>> but we had the kids and this their first
4:02
time, right? So, we're still in
4:05
>> the mindset of being in Miami even
4:07
though we just landed. Uh, and you know,
4:10
>> and we knew it that the other dogs were
4:13
in uh where in the cargo
4:15
>> in the cargo,
4:16
>> the other dogs were in cargo and they
4:18
have to get into Madrid and every
4:20
country um they have the free will to
4:23
let you in or not. even if you have all
4:25
the certifies, all the documents, they
4:27
can say no to you with no like valid
4:30
reasons. So we were kind of little
4:33
scared because it was so many pets just
4:35
from one family. Um so that's why the
4:38
stress was there too just to bring
4:40
everybody there and then that something
4:42
happened with their documents or
4:44
anything at this point.
4:47
>> Yeah. So, we got to the main terminal
4:51
and we went through customs
4:54
and uh after we passed customs, we went
4:56
to baggage claim. And um once we got to
5:00
baggage claim, we received our dogs that
5:03
were in the cargo hold. And on our
5:06
flight, we had Sniper, we had Onyx, we
5:10
had Rayu, and we had Luna along with our
5:13
three cats. Mhm.
5:15
>> And then we had in the other flight it
5:18
was Mocha, Puppy, and that's it. So,
5:22
right. I think it was Mocha and Puppy
5:23
and that was it. Right. Was there
5:24
anybody else?
5:25
>> That was it. Yeah. Did I miss anybody?
5:27
No.
5:27
>> No.
5:28
>> For some reason, uh they it's supposed
5:30
to be half and half, but for some reason
5:32
they put it like that. Probably our
5:33
flight was bigger.
5:35
>> We don't know.
5:36
>> More space on our flight. Basically,
5:37
>> we were really flexible and we took like
5:40
pre of everything with Ividia. So we we
5:43
told them that we were really flexible.
5:45
Even it has to be three airplanes, it
5:48
will be fine as soon as the whole family
5:49
were going there in almost the same day.
5:52
>> Yeah.
5:53
Um, so yeah, so once we got through
5:57
security and everything and got our
5:59
bags, we were in the airport for about 5
6:04
hours waiting on the second flight which
6:07
had um
6:08
>> my mom,
6:10
>> Janet's mom, my mother-in-law, and our
6:12
other friend as well who was traveling
6:15
with them.
6:16
>> But we used all those five hours because
6:17
we had so many suitcases. It was close
6:19
to 24 suitcases
6:21
>> and plus all the huge cages from you can
6:25
see in the video from the dogs plus the
6:27
kids that we wanted to be happy. So we
6:30
actually have a surprise for them you
6:32
know at the airport as soon as I arrive
6:34
we give them Elena which is from Spain
6:37
Elena of Avalor and to our son Sonic
6:40
just to make them like so we were
6:42
thinking about all those little details
6:44
have water for the dogs you know have
6:46
the medicine for the dog we have to as
6:48
soon as we get there walk them
6:50
>> but I can tell you it's like a Spain
6:52
receive us like with open arms they were
6:55
super warm
6:56
>> they didn't care that the dogs were
6:58
barking everybody was trying to say, "Le
7:02
walk them for you guys. We can walk them
7:04
with you if you need us." People were
7:06
bringing them like bones, bringing them
7:07
like water. It was amazing to be honest.
7:10
>> Yeah. And actually the um
7:13
I guess she's the customs agent at the
7:16
airport, the one who was checking our
7:18
paperwork and our documents for the the
7:20
dogs and the and our pets. Basically,
7:23
she was super friendly, super nice, and
7:27
I mean, you could you could I mean, we
7:29
were worried obviously, but we were we
7:31
weren't trying to show it, but we were
7:32
concerned, of course, and nervous and
7:34
whatnot, but she was very very warm and
7:38
welcoming
7:39
>> and supportive and was like,
7:42
>> "Hey, these are your your dogs and cats.
7:44
All awesome." Like scanning their
7:46
microchips and whatnot and um petting
7:50
them and everything. So, it was it was
7:51
really really a nice experience, I have
7:54
to say. Um, coming off the airplane, you
7:57
know, after 8 nine hours on the plane
7:59
ride and everything
8:00
>> and Kelly and my mom arrived like safe
8:03
with the other two dogs, so we all were
8:05
happy. And then we realized that because
8:08
we were in Madrid and we were going to
8:10
Tora Va, we needed two vans to get
8:14
>> from there to Tova driving, which it was
8:17
how many hours more? Six more hours,
8:19
right? and it's about 8 hours as well.
8:22
>> Um, but the thing is we we planned
8:25
several different scenarios. Um,
8:28
going back a little bit to the planning
8:30
process, we planned for several
8:32
different scenarios. One was arriving
8:34
Madrid, taking a connection flight and
8:37
flying to Aleante. Um, which would have
8:40
put more stress on the animals. So, that
8:42
was out, right? Uh, it would have been a
8:44
lot quicker, but it was out. It was also
8:47
a little bit more expensive. The second
8:48
option was taking a train and again
8:51
because of the amount of animals and the
8:53
luggage and everything and it was just
8:55
too chaotic. So that was also out it was
8:58
also a little bit more expensive.
9:00
>> And then finally we decided okay you
9:02
know what it's a couple hours we're I
9:05
don't think we really want to be in a
9:07
situation where we can't like stop
9:08
somewhere if we need to use the restroom
9:10
or whatnot. So we decided we'll get a
9:13
couple vans and uh head down. So, what
9:17
we ended up doing uh on the spot, not
9:20
before because we had too much going on.
9:23
We didn't pre-reserve anything in
9:25
advance. Um we once everybody arrived,
9:30
uh my mother-in-law and Kelly and
9:31
everybody, and we got everybody
9:33
together, we went and we reserved two um
9:37
nine-seater vans. Now,
9:41
>> it wasn't as easy. It took us
9:42
>> It wasn't as easy as as we thought it
9:44
would, but it did take us quite amount
9:46
of time just to even load it up with the
9:48
amount of
9:49
>> pets, people, and and and suitcases that
9:53
we had. So,
9:55
and which by the way, most of our
9:57
suitcases were everything for our
10:00
business and for the kids. Uh not
10:02
necessarily like tons and tons of
10:05
personal like everyday clothing. It was
10:07
more of like costumes and toys and
10:10
things for the dogs and cats. Uh we
10:14
probably had like what one or two
10:16
suitcases for us and that was pretty
10:17
much it. And we were totally fine with
10:19
that. Like it it's everybody's own
10:21
preference, right? So like we
10:22
prioritized
10:24
our dogs and cats and our kids before
10:27
ourselves. That's just what we do. Um
10:31
that's just who we are, right? So we we
10:33
don't really care about material things
10:37
as like clothing and other articles of
10:41
like personal stuff. But um uh so yeah,
10:43
we we got the two vans and we realized
10:46
that
10:49
they're they're stick shift vans.
10:50
They're not automatic like what I'm
10:53
typically used to. And I have driven
10:55
sten in the past when I was in India,
10:57
but it's been almost 20 more years, 20
11:02
or so years since then. So, uh, that was
11:05
a little bit of an interesting
11:08
couple hours driving down from Madrid to
11:13
Aleante to to de Veha. But luckily, we
11:16
had Teddy and Kelly who knew how to
11:17
drive um, stick shift and we we made it
11:21
all safe and sound. Um the drive itself
11:24
was uh quite long. Thankfully the the
11:28
highways here you can go up to 120
11:30
kilometers per hour. So we were we were
11:33
definitely going 120 per hour to get to
11:37
where we needed to go. Um which was to
11:40
Va and Alikante. Um which is also called
11:45
what what is it called? Costa.
11:47
>> Costa Blanca.
11:47
>> Costlanca. We got to to via after about
11:52
6 to 8 hours roughly and um it was
11:57
already night time by the time we got
11:59
there and uh
12:01
>> it was like 1:00 in the morning.
12:03
>> Yeah, it was like Yeah, you're right. It
12:04
was 1 1:00 in the morning. And the thing
12:07
is that it was um our daughter's
12:09
birthday, right? That day, that specific
12:12
day that we arrived in Spain was
12:14
>> Kiana's birthday.
12:16
And my cousin is the one that like rent
12:18
an apartment for us, you know. So, we
12:21
really didn't know where we were going
12:23
to live or anything.
12:25
>> She just did it for us like close
12:27
>> almost right in front of her own
12:29
apartment.
12:30
>> Literally literally across the street.
12:32
So, um her building was right across the
12:35
street from ours,
12:36
>> which is very convenient and helpful
12:38
obviously. I mean, we're super grateful
12:40
for it.
12:40
>> Yes. Yes. And the funny thing in like I
12:43
mean in United States first floor is
12:46
first floor right?
12:47
>> The ground floor. Yeah.
12:48
>> The ground floor. In Spain first floor
12:51
is the second floor.
12:53
>> Yep.
12:54
>> So she told us we say remember we have
12:57
nine pets. We had to walk them and
12:59
everything when we bring them to the pet
13:02
to the veterinarian or something. And
13:03
she said like don't worry it's in the
13:05
first floor. So we thought that it was
13:07
right there but no ground floor
13:10
>> in the second floor which you need to
13:11
take an elevator
13:13
>> or stairs
13:14
>> right
13:14
>> that was the
13:15
>> luckily
13:16
>> surprise when we got there. Yeah,
13:18
luckily we weren't on the, you know, any
13:20
of the higher floors, but at the still
13:22
at the same time, like the thing is when
13:23
you're living in an apartment with the
13:24
dogs that we have, which are
13:26
unfortunately they are reactive because
13:28
they're all they're all rescued, but
13:30
they have like a very packed mentality
13:33
like any dog
13:35
uh
13:36
any sensible dog owner would know, I
13:39
think,
13:40
>> or a dog trainer or a dog psychologist
13:43
would know. Um, most rescue dogs have a
13:48
chip on their shoulder, but we're not
13:50
talking about that right now. We're
13:51
talking about coming to Dorvilla. So, we
13:53
got to Dorvia. We were on the first
13:55
floor, which is
13:58
>> the second floor.
13:58
>> Second floor.
13:59
>> And it's no parking spots. And the just
14:03
imagine we coming from the United States
14:05
from Miami especially from outside Miami
14:08
that the roads are humongous and we go
14:10
to a road like for us is like for bikes
14:13
but no it's for cars
14:15
>> and in the both sides is cars park
14:18
>> and you can even go in and it's one way.
14:21
>> It's a one way. That's another thing. It
14:22
was a oneway. You're right. It was one
14:24
way. On top of that, we had to put down
14:26
all these pets.
14:27
>> And every time that somebody was coming
14:30
down, we have to stop and our friend has
14:32
to go around and we had to
14:34
>> go around the block building.
14:36
>> Go in the stairs with the cage with a
14:39
dog that is almost 50 to 70 uh
14:43
>> pounds
14:43
>> pounds plus the cage that is another 30.
14:47
So, it was a lot. I'm going upstairs.
14:51
Going upstairs because they don't even
14:52
fit in the elevator.
14:54
>> So, speaking of the apartment, okay, the
14:57
apartment was a two-bedroom,
15:00
one bath apartment
15:02
and um it's if you're in the US or even
15:06
in the UK or any other country that
15:08
you're watching us from,
15:11
uh I don't have the exact measurements
15:13
off the top of my head, but I will give
15:14
them to you.
15:15
>> 80
15:16
>> um
15:16
>> it was 80
15:17
>> 80 m squared. Yes,
15:19
>> it was 80 square me
15:20
>> 80 square meter apartment which
15:25
I mean
15:27
just think about this you have a family
15:29
of five
15:31
that includes mother-in-law and two kids
15:33
okay
15:34
>> us
15:35
>> and us obviously family of five then you
15:38
have at the time
15:40
>> nine pets
15:40
>> nine pets
15:42
>> with the cages and cages with suitcases
15:46
>> in 80 square meters And you can see in
15:49
the bureau.
15:50
>> Yeah.
15:50
>> How small it was for us.
15:52
>> It was It was really small.
15:54
>> Yeah.
15:54
>> But again, we were super grateful. We
15:56
just got there. We didn't have to worry
15:58
about it. And um
15:59
>> and my cousin doesn't have pets. So she
16:01
told me like, "Don't worry. Across the
16:04
apartment is a park. You're going to see
16:07
what kind of park it was. It wasn't a
16:09
park. It was a parking garage." So,
16:12
>> and it's not the kind of parking garage
16:14
you think it is. It was just like a
16:15
piece of land with a bunch of gravel and
16:18
rocks and stones
16:21
next to the highway, next to a school.
16:24
It was basically an abandoned lot. It
16:26
wasn't a parking uh parking garage and
16:29
it wasn't a park either.
16:30
>> Um
16:32
>> we were really happy to be in Spain.
16:34
>> Yeah. And but at the same time um we
16:38
realized in that exact moment that I
16:41
mean toa is a good place for a lot of
16:44
people but it wasn't for us
16:46
>> right
16:46
>> so we knew it was a Spain but we knew it
16:49
yeah it's not toa but let's give it a
16:52
chance maybe it's us because it was like
16:54
in this in in 10 minutes we knew it it
16:56
wasn't the place for us but we said
17:00
let's give it a try we just been here
17:01
for one hour so and it's night time. So,
17:05
we probably wrong. So, let's give it a
17:07
try.
17:07
>> And if anybody knows, like when you're
17:09
out and about in the at night, you
17:11
really can't see things the way you
17:13
would see them during the day. It's
17:16
totally different. Seeing things the
17:18
same thing at night is totally different
17:20
from seeing it during the day um in the
17:22
daylight. And uh the next morning, of
17:26
course, we went out, we walked our dogs,
17:30
which by the way, we have to take them
17:32
in pairs, right? We don't walk them all
17:34
at the same time unless we have some
17:36
help, which you'll also see in the
17:38
B-roll.
17:38
>> In this one, we have, but it was the
17:40
only day of the three months that we be
17:42
there. And we have to walk these dogs
17:45
three times a day
17:47
>> minimum
17:47
>> because we didn't have
17:49
>> a patio or anything. The patio was this
17:51
small and they hate it. So, they didn't
17:53
even wanted to go. Plus, one other thing
17:56
that they didn't tell us is like how you
17:58
say that that all the thing is going to
18:00
one place.
18:01
>> Just pass all the garbage. No, the where
18:04
the water goes.
18:04
>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
18:06
>> So, we all share the same
18:09
the same like sew system in the building
18:12
in the building. Yeah.
18:13
>> Which is make it impossible for you to
18:15
let your dogs pee or something there
18:17
because it's going to go to somebody
18:18
else's apartment. So it was a lot of
18:21
noise that we found there that it was
18:22
like we were trying to work and it was
18:25
all day just walking the dogs because it
18:27
was just both of us going in the morning
18:31
three to four times in the afternoon
18:33
another three to four times and at night
18:34
another three or four time for the dogs
18:36
to walk plus everybody walks the dogs
18:39
there. So, we're just trying to avoid
18:42
the the dogs from Spain that usually
18:43
they really behave. Our dogs in the
18:46
United States
18:47
>> and they're off leash. Most of them are
18:49
off leash
18:50
>> and Yeah. And uh our dogs are rescued
18:52
and
18:54
>> they they don't
18:57
they don't they're not very friendly
18:58
with other dogs. I mean, that's the
18:59
reality, right? They're friendly with
19:01
people. They love people. Um, but with
19:03
other dogs, they're not other than our
19:06
own pack. They're they're solo their
19:09
solo pack. They don't want to
19:11
>> really friendly. We get a lot of good
19:14
friends there, but the situation it was
19:17
like
19:18
>> Yeah.
19:18
>> like not ideal for everything that we
19:21
were going through.
19:23
>> So, day one, not Yeah. So, day one we
19:26
celebrated our daughter's birthday. She
19:29
turned five. No,
19:31
>> six. She turned six. I'm sorry. Wow. She
19:34
turned 6 years old. And um
19:38
it was our plan. It was planned that we
19:43
would arrive in Spain on her birthday.
19:45
>> Um we gave oursel that deadline to be
19:47
honest uh in part of the planning
19:49
process. We're like we have to do it
19:51
before her birthday or on her birthday
19:53
or around her birthday. So we know that
19:56
we're doing what we have to do. like if
19:58
you're planning a trip anywhere, you
20:00
have to set a date or a goal, right? So
20:02
that was our date um to travel and to
20:05
move and whatnot. And then of course
20:07
getting accustomed to Tovia and at the
20:10
time we arrived, it was still a little
20:13
bit chilly. Um we were just getting into
20:16
winter season, so it was breezy. It was
20:19
a little bit chilly. Um but it was nice.
20:23
It was nice at the in in the first
20:25
couple like weeks and then we realized
20:27
like yeah this is not for us.
20:29
>> This is not the place for us but it's
20:31
beautiful. The people is really nice.
20:33
It's a lot of places that you if you
20:35
come here you had to visit and we're
20:37
going to put it in the next videos. It's
20:40
a lot of places a lot of people that you
20:41
will love to meet and we love to see the
20:43
locals and everything they had to offer
20:45
for free. That is different than in
20:47
United States. People actually care
20:49
about you. Um even that it has you know
20:54
like every single country has good
20:56
things about things like actually they
20:58
have a lot of free things for the kids
21:00
and is safe. You feel happy to be in a
21:03
park. You feel happy to be in events.
21:05
You don't have the same like oh I'm so
21:07
scared that somebody's going to come
21:09
shooting at us or screaming on us or
21:12
just upset because we're not from the
21:14
same religion or the same place like in
21:16
United States. So that party was really
21:18
nice.
21:19
>> Yeah. And um you know once you're in a
21:22
particular place for a certain amount of
21:24
time after a while you start to get to
21:26
know people too, right? So we the corner
21:28
store guy would recognize us right away
21:31
and would be like asking us how our day
21:34
was going. And I mean you're
21:36
coming from Miami, you feel like a human
21:38
again. You don't feel like a
21:40
>> a number
21:41
>> a number or like a freaking robot that
21:44
you talking to a person at the register
21:46
and there's like with their headphones
21:48
on or AirPods on and they're not even
21:50
they're just like scanning your stuff
21:52
and
21:53
>> it's a transaction only you know
21:55
>> here it was more more human more uh
21:59
>> more real like it was back in the day
22:02
you know in the US like things have
22:04
changed so much
22:05
>> every time that we were passing from the
22:06
fruit store
22:08
>> the owner from the food store. We're
22:09
giving like cookies to the kids even if
22:11
we buy or we don't buy just because he
22:14
was happy with it. Yeah.
22:15
>> And even we used to go to Don Joani that
22:17
the pizza is amazing and my our son were
22:21
like in love with it and he was just
22:23
giving a a beer to Aron just because he
22:26
was just passing by. It was just that
22:29
community like um the guy from the fruit
22:32
Ali
22:33
>> Ali's fruit store right
22:35
>> Ali. Yeah. Um he was just eating fruits
22:38
and we were we were buying he were like
22:40
oh you want to eat with this try it out
22:42
and it gave us like a couple pieces of
22:44
fruit for free and we're just eating.
22:45
We're like oh wow this is so good
22:47
>> and then trying to save from you like I
22:49
we remember that we went to buy the
22:50
phone and they were like why you have to
22:52
buy the fancy phone if this one is good.
22:54
They trying to save you money it is
22:56
>> instead of sell you
22:58
>> random things you don't really need. So
23:00
culture-wise I mean it's completely
23:03
different. people-wise completely
23:06
different. They're they're more
23:08
uh oriented towards
23:11
>> the community,
23:11
>> the community and culture and creating
23:14
an environment that is healthy, you
23:17
know, versus
23:19
um one which you always have to look
23:22
over your shoulder or
23:25
keep an eye on the exit to see who's
23:27
coming in and out.
23:28
>> Yeah. And having a balance here
23:30
definitely big time. So, um, that was
23:33
our experience coming from the airport
23:36
to Thor Va and Aleante. And, uh, you
23:40
know, you'll see a couple more shots
23:41
here where the kids are enjoying
23:44
themselves. We're walking the dogs and
23:46
they're and, you know,
23:47
>> going to the park.
23:48
>> Going to the park.
23:49
>> So, uh, stick around. We have a lot more
23:51
to share with you guys in part three of
23:54
our series of why we moved to Spain.
23:57
>> And in the part three is going to be the
23:58
part with our loyer meas. and we don't
24:01
want that this happen to you guys. So,
24:03
in the next video, we tell you how our
24:06
lawyer messed up and what part of the
24:10
world we end up being for three more
24:13
months.
24:14
>> Yeah. So,
24:16
>> stay tuned. We'd love for you guys to uh
24:19
follow our little journey and stick
24:21
around. If you have any questions, feel
24:23
free to leave them in the comments and
24:25
like, subscribe, share the video. Uh,
24:27
and if you have any suggestions on
24:30
topics or you'd like to know more about
24:32
Doriva itself, uh, we have a video that
24:35
we made. You can check that out as well.
24:38
And, um, good.
24:39
>> Yeah. Thanks for watching.
24:42
>> Bye. Peace and love.
