Massive Veneer Sled for Resawing a 150 lb Curly Maple Slab

We saw a lot of veneer at our shop and sometimes we need wide ones. The current project required live edges with this 23” wide curly maple slab. Handling a 150 pound slab through a bandsaw has physical risks that require a way to make it safe for two people to manage. This rig hangs the slab from rollers on top of the fence. The MDF backing board allows us good control down to the last veneer. A wedge in the back moves the fence precisely between cuts so we can take the veneers off the outside face. We were able to feel the saw cutting and manage feed rate through every cut. This rig is just a prototype and needs more development, but today’s success proved it to be a worthwhile project.
