How to make money on YouTube with affiliate marketing in 2021
0:03
So last year, we made over $20,000 doing just that. The great thing with affiliate marketing is you can talk about the products and services that you love
0:11
If someone from your audience clicks on one of your links and makes a purchase, you earn a commission
0:16
Another good thing is with YouTube, you don't need to have a monetized channel, so no 4,000 hours of watch time, or 1,000 subscribers
0:23
You could actually put out your very first video with your very first viewer
0:26
clicking on one of your links and making a purchase and you could earn a commission
0:30
So what I want to do today is cover four different video types that lend themselves to making
0:35
money with affiliate marketing. And then if you stick around to the end, I'm going to cover a couple of tips and tools
0:39
that you can use to make money with affiliate marketing on all of your videos. The first types of videos are how to and tutorials
0:45
So that's the main focus of videos on our channel related to affiliate marketing
0:49
So we've taught people how to build a website, how to get started with email marketing
0:53
how to host a webinar, and things like that. So we go through and show people how to use a specific software
0:59
And if they learn how to use that software and then decide they want to go purchase it, we could earn a commission
1:04
But it doesn't have to be software. This could be really anything. We could teach people how to light their YouTube videos and recommend certain lights that they purchase as well
1:12
But it could be how to remodel your kitchen. It could be how to teach your dog to walk on a leash or how to train for a marathon
1:19
And so you can think through at each of those examples of remodeling the kitchen
1:23
Here's the tools and the type of cabinetry I recommend. and you can go buy that at Home Depot
1:27
Training for a marathon, this is the best smart watch to help you keep track of your running
1:32
your heart rate, and all that stuff, go by that smart watch. The same thing with teaching your dog to walk on a leash
1:37
It's like this harness and this leash are by far our favorites
1:41
You know, there's link to it down below in the description. One quick thing before we move on
1:44
you want to make sure you're following any applicable laws related to affiliate marketing where you're from or in the U.S
1:49
So YouTube is a U.S. business. A lot of your audience could be here. I'm not a lawyer here
1:54
but a lot of it comes down to disclosure. So you want to tell your audience that
1:59
hey, I could earn a commission if you click on one of these links. So it's not enough to put a disclaimer
2:03
way, way at the bottom of your description of your videos because you can't expect someone
2:07
to open up the description and scroll past the link they want to click on
2:12
read the disclaimer, go back up and click on the link. And so what we like to do
2:15
is say something like this in our videos. Okay, so here you are at convertit.com
2:19
I'm going to put a link down below in the description so you can sign up for your free account. This is our affiliate link So if you later decide to upgrade to a paid plan we may earn a small commission but at no extra cost to you Also in the description of the videos you want to say something related to earning a commission if they click on the links before the actual affiliate links
2:36
So they have to go past that and see it before they can actually get to the links and click on them
2:42
Again, I'm not a lawyer here. It's something that you just want to be mindful of and look into to make sure you're following the best practices because it's better to be safe than sorry here
2:50
The second type of videos are review and comparison videos. So these are great for affiliate marketing
2:54
because these are things people are searching for right before making a purchase
2:59
So a review of the Sony A6600 camera that we use, someone is going to watch that video
3:04
if they're thinking about buying a new camera and they want to see, is this the right one for me or not
3:10
So with the tutorial, someone may be watching the tutorial and already have whatever it is that you know
3:15
you're doing the tutorial of. With the review videos, someone is thinking about making a purchase and they want to know what other people think
3:23
So either comparing two products or reviewing a specific product. So one of the difficulties here for content creators is there's obviously channels that just do this
3:32
So Marquez Brownlee, Everyday Dad, there's a bunch of channels that just do review after review
3:38
And after you have a certain scale, those companies want to ship the products out and get you to review them
3:43
Obviously buying all the latest camera gear can be really, really expensive
3:47
So you may want to start out doing review of the things that you currently use because
3:52
hey, I already have a camera. I can do a review of it. It doesn't cost any money
3:56
I don't have to go out and buy a new camera. Obviously, if I want to build a whole channel around it, I either need to have the money to
4:02
buy all of it. I need to have a big enough channel that people want to send me the stuff so I don't have
4:07
to purchase this or with affiliate marketing if you have a big enough audience and you know
4:11
hey, if I buy this new camera and I talk about it, that I will make enough money from affiliate
4:15
marketing to pay for the investment in a new camera, let's say. This is something that you can start
4:20
out doing in the beginning with the things that you own. And if it goes well, you can obviously
4:26
you know, purchase more and better gear or better, whatever it is, and then talk about those things
4:31
And who knows? I mean, some of the channels that I just mentioned, you get it for free
4:35
companies will sponsor you doing a review of it and things like that. But again, this is great
4:40
because this is just before someone makes the purchase. So the chance of them clicking on a link
4:45
is higher than with other types of videos. The third type of video are new release rumors update type videos So think about the rumored specs for the iPhone 13 that maybe coming out six months from now or the new release of the Sony A1 camera that was announced last week So the great
5:02
thing with this type of content is you don't actually have to own it or you can't own it to talk about
5:07
it because it doesn't exist yet or it's not available to the public. So for example, there was a video
5:12
by Minnie Ortiz and Jared Pollan where they went live during the release of the Sony A1 camera
5:18
and then they showed the websites where you could pre-order the camera. So you could learn about the specs of the camera from their video
5:24
and then on the description, click on the link and pre-order the camera
5:28
They didn't own the camera. No one owned the camera really yet. And so the great thing with this is, you know, you can talk about the stuff that's coming out soon
5:34
So the new running shoes, the new smartwatch, the new whatever in your space
5:38
and you don't actually have to own it yet. This is better than the reviews in terms of not actually having to have made the purchase
5:43
But if it's something coming out six months from now, chances are, you know
5:47
if it's a rumor, iPhone 13 video, you know, someone watching that video
5:51
clicking a link on the description to buy an old iPhone is maybe a little bit lower
5:55
Think about the new stuff coming out in your space, and if you're one of the earlier people to create videos on the content
6:00
you can get a lot of views and potentially make money from affiliate marketing as well
6:04
So the fourth type of content is what I use or what I recommend that you use
6:08
So let me give you a couple examples here. Could be Peter McKinnon's video on what's in my camera bag
6:13
So if you want to make great videos and take amazing photos like he
6:17
does, maybe you want to buy what's in his camera bag. It could be our video on a $100 YouTube
6:22
studio setup. So it's not what we use to record our YouTube videos, but if I had $100 to invest in
6:28
gear to get started on YouTube, this is what I would purchase. For a couple of other examples
6:33
it could be, here's the 10 things you need to buy if you have a new puppy. The person creating
6:37
the content could have a dog that's 10 years old, but if I were to get a puppy today, here are
6:41
the things that I would purchase. It could be the ultimate work from home desk setup. So you
6:45
want this desk, this monitor, this laptop, this keyboard, whatever it is, so you can be productive
6:50
at home. So for this type of video, you can think about all the different things that you use in certain situations that you could recommend to people, or for beginners, for this type of person
7:00
you know, there may be different levels depending on whatever your niche is to say, hey, if you're
7:04
in this situation, use these five things. If you're in this situation, I definitely recommend
7:08
these three things. So you can create several different videos related to recommendations for
7:13
products within your niche. If you're looking to grow your YouTube channel and make more money
7:16
from your content definitely sign up for a free YouTube masterclass It a one training with tons of tips to help you grow your channel and make more money I put a link down below in the description Now moving on to the tips and tools to help you make money with affiliate marketing
7:30
on all of your videos. The first tip I have for you is just get your audience
7:34
used to reading the description of your videos. So if during your videos you say
7:37
hey, there's links to these videos down below, there's links to articles below, there's more information on this in the description
7:43
You can sign up for whatever guide down below. People just naturally when they're watching new videos
7:48
of yours open up the description and read what's there and some percent of those
7:53
are going to click on your affiliate links helping you make money tip number two include links to all of your camera gear in the description of your videos so
8:00
especially as your content continues to improve people are going to wonder hey what camera do they use what mic do they use what lighting do they use and so in any of
8:08
your videos obviously you use the gear to record it and there can be links in all
8:13
of your videos where some small percent of people are going to open up the
8:16
description check that out and click on the links earning new affiliate commissions. Tip number three, whatever you're known for
8:22
put together kind of your recommendations and put it in the description. So I'll give you a
8:27
couple examples here. Obviously Peter McKinnon and photography video people list all
8:31
their camera gear as we talked about in the last tip. But think about say a menswear
8:35
influencer. People want to know what he's wearing in a particular video as well
8:39
as his favorite menswear brand so he could put links to both of those in the description
8:43
of all of his videos. A channel like McCann Dog Training has a link to their
8:47
their recommended dog products in every single one of their videos. If you teach people to train
8:52
for a marathon, here's my gear for training for a marathon, your favorite yoga gear, you could put a
8:58
link in the description as well. So there's a couple ways to present this information. You could
9:02
list out all the products individually, but that can get kind of long sometimes. You could create
9:07
a page of your website that list everything out. And so you just have one link in the description
9:12
of your video that goes to that page on your website, or you could use a platform such as kit.com
9:17
where you put together different kits of products. So here's my cold brew coffee kit. Here's my
9:22
dog training kit. Here's my YouTube video gear kit. And so you put together, you know, here's all
9:28
the products. Here's images for the products and here's the affiliate links to go along with each one
9:32
So depending on how big the list is or how you want to present the information, there's a couple
9:36
of different options on how you can include a link or links to your favorite things in all of your
9:42
videos earning you affiliate commissions. If you want to learn about all the ways that you can make money on
9:46
YouTube definitely check out this video along the side right here hope to see you in
9:50
the next video bye bye
