That's what we're going to take a look at in today's affiliate marketing tutorial for beginners. There's a lot to cover in today's video

What is affiliate marketing? So affiliate marketing involves three different parties. You have a brand such as, say, Nike

You have the affiliate or content creator such as ourselves. And then you have the consumer who wants to learn about something and potentially make a purchase

So in this example, Nike could create an affiliate program, which I have. We could then go apply to the program

Once we're accepted, we could log in and then get specific. links to any one of their products, and those links would contain our affiliate code

So then we would create content talking about those products, so it could be, say, review

a tutorial, comparison, whatever it is. If someone comes across that content, likes the content, and then goes to Nike's website

using our link and makes a purchase, say they buy a $100 pair of shoes at Nike.com

Nike would know that that consumer, that purchase came from our links

So this is something that's win, win, win across the board. So the consumer found useful information that they use to make a decision and go purchase something

the brand, so Nike has some additional money. They sold a new pair of shoes

And us by creating useful content, earn a commission on that sale

How much you earn per sale can vary quite a bit, depending on the product or service, and also where it's purchased from

Some programs are as low as a half a percent of the sale value and some are even over 50%

Those are generally software, online courses, or things that have really high profit margins

Physical products are usually at the lower end of the scale in the single digits in most cases

Also, the commission paid by different websites for the exact same product, can vary quite a bit

So Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Amazon may sell a bunch of the same things

but the commission you would earn as an affiliate could vary greatly. Now let's check out a couple of businesses

doing really well because of affiliate marketing. The first one is wirecutter. So wirecutter has reviews and comparisons

for just about anything from electric toothbrushes, pressure cookers, standing desk, 4K TVs, and a bunch more

And so any one of these products, if you go to their website, click on one of the links

they could earn a commission if you make a purchase. You can see that right at the top with our website. This is something you want to make sure you're doing as well is before you have

affiliate links, you have people notified that you may be earning a commission. So you can see they have

content on here's their popular ones on humidifiers, noise canceling headphones, chef's knife, patio

heaters, and a bunch of other stuff. Then you have technology, home and garden sleep, kitchen

Black Friday, gifts, and a bunch of other categories. And so you can see even on their homepage

you don't just get the product link, you get all this. So here's the product number

but then you get the Walmart partner, and then there's this, the source is this

and then here's this long code, affiliate partner. And so this is essentially what happens

Walmart would pay the New York Times or wire cutter a commission for them

the New York Times bought wirecutter for more than million So clearly they generating a ton of money for the New York Times to want to purchase them for million So the next company I want to talk about is Nerd Wallet So NerdWallet is in the financial services sector

which is a very profitable sector and the affiliate commissions tend to be quite high

This company recently went public and it's valued at over a billion dollars. So you can see here if we just check out, say, their best credit cards

New MacBooks came out pretty recently, so there's a lot of content. And so if I were to click on one of these videos, what we're going to see here is if we scroll

And so it's not just a link to the product. You see link code, you know, tag Greg's gadgets, blah, blah, blah, these are affiliate links

So if someone watches the video they say hey I want to buy the new Macbrook Pro click on the link and purchase it

you find affiliate programs honestly the first step is just go to Google and type in brand affiliate program so so any company affiliate program so as we saw

So a lot of larger businesses like this and a lot of small companies have an affiliate program

So one of the most popular affiliate programs is Amazon. So here's a page on their website that goes through the different commissions you can earn

by being affiliate through Amazon. So Amazon Games is 20%. Luxury Beauty, luxury stores, Amazon Explorer, 10%

Digital music, 5%. Physical books, 4 and a half. Kitchen and automotive as well

The different tablets are 4%. Toys, Furniture, and a bunch of others is 3%

PC components, two and a half, TVs is 2%. And then if it's not listed in one of these categories

you have 4%. And then like I was saying before, not everything is a percent of the sale

Sometimes it's a fixed value. So they have what they call bounty programs

So I think that there's one down here. So you see audible, successful registration

for an audible premium plus free trial on Amazon.com is $5. So for this case, it's not a percent of the sale

They say, hey, I want someone to try. file out Audible because I know if they try it, they're going to like it and they're going to pay us a bunch of money

I'll give you $5 just for the free trial. If you have pets, what do you know? Chewy has an affiliate program

So if you want to create content about dogs cats or any other pets you have Chewy has an affiliate program So I mentioned earlier that software and online courses pay really high commissions and why can they do that Because they don have a cost to produce one more unit

So to sell one more course, the course was already created, they just have to give you access to it

Where for a physical product, so to make a new 4K TV, there's a bunch of components that go into it

they have to shift it from Asia to the United States. There's a lot of costs that go into that

and so they can only afford to pay a much smaller affiliate commission

versus, say, a software or an online course. As you can see for this particular online course business

they're paying 40% commissions on any eligible affiliate sales. Here's a software example, ConvertKit

So ConvertKit is the email marketing software that we've been using for years now. We're part of the affiliate program

And what you can see from their page is you get 30% commissions on a recurring basis

So if someone is a customer for the next five years, you get 30% of whatever they're paying a Convert Kit

if you want to talk about cryptocurrencies, you can see that Gemini, one of the more popular

crypto exchanges, has an affiliate program. Not every affiliate program is as easily found as the ones

that I just showed you. Some of them are hidden within the affiliate networks. So what's an

affiliate network? Well, Freshly is a good example of that. So Freshly has their affiliate program

run by Impact. I think it's just called Impact Now, but it says already have an account

with Impact Radius, sign in. So essentially, Impact Radius or the other ones that we're going to

take a look at, host a bunch of different affiliate program. So they manage everything. So

Freshly says, hey, here's what I want the program to be. You manage the rest of it

So people are going to apply on your platform. You're going to give them the links. And then you're going to tell us freshly the brand how much we owe each one of our different affiliates

So here's some of the affiliate networks that I recommend you sign up for. The first one would be Impact

So I would say probably two thirds of the different programs that we participate in are through impact

The next one would be CJ.com. And the third would be share a sale

So I would definitely just sign up for all three of them, see what programs are

available, start applying for the ones that you're most interested in. Also, if you're just getting

started, another good option would be somewhere like skim links. So skim links aggregates a ton of

different affiliate programs. And then you can just sign up and be approved for skim links. And then

you get links to thousands of different programs. The thing is with skim links is they're going to take

I think it's a 25% commission, but it saves a bunch of different applying, especially if you

have a small audience. You might not get approved for each of the different programs. Each one has

different requirements. But if you get into skim links, you can share thousands of different

affiliate links. They manage everything. They do take their cut of it, but it's a quick way to get

into a bunch of different programs. Now I want to go through two different affiliate marketing tools that we use quite a bit. The first is kit.co. So kit allows you to put together kits or

You earn a commission. Another reason, Genius Link is really, really, really powerful is for international Amazon links. So if you create content, say for

YouTube, your audience is all over the world. And so if you send someone to the Amazon store

in the U.S. and there in the UK, you're not going to make a commission from that. So you need

apply to all the different Amazon programs and send people different links depending on where

they're purchasing. So Genius Link does that. What they'll do is they know your IP address

They know that you're currently in Spain or the UK or Canada or wherever it is. And they send

So this allows you to earn much higher commissions by using Genius Link with an international

audience. One thing to be mindful of is Amazon wants people to know that you're sending them to Amazon. So if the link just says Genius, they're not going to know that they're being

taken to Amazon. So we usually put in brackets Amazon next to the Genius Link. So someone knows

you're going to go to Amazon if you click on this link. Genius Link is something that starts out

at $5 a month for up to 2,000 clicks. So we have a fairly international audience. And so we

apply to some of the different Amazon Associates programs around the world. So this has been something

that's helped us earn more money. Now I want to go through four different types of content that you

can create to earn money from affiliate marketing. The first are review. So if there's a software

a product, a service, whatever it is, create content reviewing that product or service

talking about what you like, what you don't like. So people want to learn more about the product

will come across your article or your YouTube video. And if they want to make a purchase

you just help them make the decision. The second way would be through comparison. So if you compare A and B or A, B, and C, here's the best standing desks

Here's the best email marketing software. There's tons of options here to help people compare different products or services

The third type of content would be tutorials. So tutorials, how to use convert kit, how to use something that you purchase at Home Depot
