A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from requiring 20 Democratic-led states to cooperate with immigration enforcement to receive transportation grant funding, according to CNBC. Chief U.S. District Judge John McConnell issued an injunction on Thursday, siding with state attorneys general who argued that the Department of Transportation overstepped its authority. The states argued that Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy lacked authority to tie immigration enforcement to federal infrastructure funding approved by Congress. Since returning to office on Jan. 20, Trump has signed executive orders aiming to cut federal funding to sanctuary jurisdictions that limit cooperation with ICE during mass deportation efforts.
