Apple Pushes Deeper Into AI With New Chips, Moving Toward Independence And Stronger AI Integration

Apple introduced three new chips alongside the iPhone Air launch on Friday, signaling a stronger push into artificial intelligence and greater independence in its silicon strategy. The A19 Pro chip features neural accelerators built into each GPU core, designed to handle AI workloads with MacBook Pro-level performance. Apple introduced its first N1 wireless chip and the C1X modem, a shift analysts say gives the company full control over core iPhone components. Apple’s Tim Millet said designing its own chips gives the company greater control to deliver capabilities beyond those possible with third-party silicon. Analysts expect Apple to eventually phase out Qualcomm and Broadcom entirely, as the company aims to expand custom chip production across its entire product portfolio and into U.S. facilities.
