Wireless headphones with built-in pulse rate monitor. Let's check it out
0:10
Dave Taylor here and hang on, 70. Okay, so these are the Clear Edge Pulse
0:19
wireless Bluetooth headphones with heart rate monitor. Pretty interesting idea actually. so they are wireless bluetooth running bluetooth 4.2 and they have nfc shockproof ipx5 water
0:34
resistant you really want that because you're going to sweat hopefully and they have adjustable
0:39
ear loops and you can see all the controls and all the battery and stuff are all in this larger
0:46
section that sits behind your ear and the controls takes a little getting used to because behind your
0:52
right ear are the volume up down, next previous track, pause play, answer phone call, hang up phone
0:59
call. All of those controls are behind your ear. So what I find is that I sort of move my finger
1:05
around to remember where the exact spots are. And then the left one is a fairly neutral thing
1:12
but this is actually where it's monitoring your pulse. So once you have your pulse engaged
1:18
which you do by pushing and holding on the ear tip. So on the end of it, you push and hold that for a couple of seconds
1:25
and then there's voice prompts and it says now monitoring your pulse
1:28
And then anytime you tap it you get the result on from this ear of your pulse Now you think oh that cool So that means you also getting all that data collected while you exercising in the Health app on your iPhone or similar and it very
1:44
peculiar because it shows up as an input device in the Apple Health app, but it doesn't actually
1:51
work with the Health app. To be able to use this and record your pulse, which serious athletes like
1:56
to do on their workouts, you need a third-party app. Not really sure what's going on there, I feel
2:01
like the functionality is less than it could be. So basically when you're working out, every so
2:06
often you're going to tap and say, oh, okay, I'm at 100, I'm at 114. Okay, now I'm at 90. So, you
2:14
know, you can sort of self-monitor, but it's not giving you huge amounts of data, which is too bad
2:20
because this is kind of the big shtick with these headphones. And they sound good. I mean, it's a
2:25
5.8 millimeter Neo Dymium drive and Clear does a nice job with their headphones. But I got to say
2:31
there's really nothing to write home about in terms of the audio quality. I found that it was not really that rich
2:37
And they stay in well. Of course, as always, you want to put the right size ear tips in
2:42
Comes with three, count them, three different size ear tips. But I was a little disappointed, actually
2:48
because pretty much all the gear I've gotten from Clear has been really great sound
2:52
And these, they're good sound, not great sound. Certainly for the price, it might be something where you want to wonder
2:58
whether these are a good choice for you, especially given the limitations with the pulse
3:03
monitor tracking on your iPhone. I haven't actually tried this on Android, maybe on Android
3:09
on Google Health or whatever you use on that side Maybe that works better I don know Every single reviewer I looked at for the clear edge pulse everyone has the same commentary about why doesn this work within the Apple app Why doesn this
3:22
track your data? Why doesn't this give you a nice little graph of as you worked out, here's your
3:26
heart rate, and then it took you this long to get back to normal. I don't know. Maybe that's a
3:31
limitation of the technology. So only other thing I want to tell you about these is, let's see, well
3:36
comes with a nice little carrying pouch, comes with three different sizes of ear tips. It charges
3:41
via micro USB. There's a little patch or square you move out of the way, and then you can actually
3:48
charge it via micro USB. And it has what they call fast charge. Here you can see the charge
3:54
thing there. It has what they call fast charge, which means that if you give it a five minute
3:59
charge, it's good for an hour, which is great. If you forget to charge these, you can do so
4:03
on the way to the gym, right? And then overall on a full charge, it'll run six hours
4:09
but that six hours is going to be a lot less if you're having it monitor your pulse the whole time
4:14
because that apparently takes a fair amount of electricity. In my experience it certainly is good
4:19
for an hour or two if not three and other than that I tend to discharge things a lot
4:25
So let's see what else can I tell you about it. Really not much to say the ergonomics the design
4:32
the build quality is terrific they really the company really knows how to do this and you know
4:39
it's just there's a lot to like from a theoretical perspective but practically
4:44
I'm not sure these are great pair of headphones especially for the price now before I get to the price let me ask if you would do me a favor and go ahead and subscribe to my channel really appreciate when you do that Cool Okay now the clear edge pulse Hold on hold on Oh and by the way when I use these for my pulse and
5:04
then compared them to what I had on my Apple Watch, they were always in exactly the same number
5:08
So they are at least either very accurately working or they are working as inaccurately as
5:14
my Apple Watch. So hopefully that actually both of them are nice and accurate. So that's good to
5:21
know. And these Clear Edge Pulse heart rate monitor wireless headphones will cost you $149.99
5:28
at clear.us. And they're in black and they are coming in red. And the red looks pretty sweet
5:34
from their photos. So this is Dave Taylor. And I say, if you're looking for some sports headphones
5:40
and you want a heart rate monitor, then these might or might not work for you
5:45
You might want to get them from a source where you can take them back after a week if they're not working
5:50
I don't know. Maybe you don't like to do that kind of thing. But I'm sort of middling on these ones
5:55
Clear generally does a great job. And I feel like these, I don't know, maybe it's technological limitations
6:01
but I was a little disappointed by these. So that's it. I'm going to go ahead and put these back on
6:05
which means I will go finish my workout and I will catch you in my next video
