[PROMO AT END] The VAVA VD-009 is a Dashcam that records both the view out your front windshield and the interior cabin of your vehicle at the same time. Not only that, but it records in crystal clear 2K resolution (2560 x 1600) and includes built-in GPS and Sony IMX355 night mode video enhancement too. The result is a solid Dashcam that's easy to work with, produces crisp, clean video and has a slew of other capabilities that make it a solid option in a crowded market. But tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ didn't just try this at home, he took a 1500 mile road trip to really get a wide variety of footage, as demonstrated in detail in this review!

A 2K dash cam with dual cameras? Let's check this out
0:04
Dave Taylor here, and boy it's hot and bright out. It is the middle of the summer, and it's
0:16
a perfect time for a road trip. And what better to have on your road trip than a dash cam
0:22
This is the Vava VD-009 2K dash cam, and it's pretty darn cool. But, it is crazy hot out
0:30
here in the sun, so let me go ahead and switch things around so I can tell you about it
0:34
Oh man, it is just hot outside. There's no way around it. So, let me get back to it
0:39
As I said, this is the Vava VD-009 2K dual camera dash cam. It has a forward facing camera
0:50
that's 2K, which is filming at 2560 by 1600 at 30 frames a second, with a 155 degree view
0:58
Let's just cut to a super fast example. Pretty clean, isn't it? Now, there's also a cabin
1:08
camera, and that is a 1080p camera, and that gives you a 70 degree view, and you can turn
1:14
it on or off with the app controls that are on your smartphone. So, it has some rudimentary
1:21
controls here. There are a couple of buttons underneath the screen, so you have the ability
1:27
to do some basic controls, but it's really vastly easier to use with the Vava dash app
1:33
So, I'm going to come back to that, but let me just show you real quick. So, it's a 2-inch
1:37
LCD screen, has built-in GPS, which is really helpful, and like I said, it comes with the
1:44
app. Now, the app is really interesting, because it gives you a real-time view of what's going on
1:49
on the dash cam, which means, yes, it's pretty dangerous to mess around with while you're
1:53
driving, so pull over if you're going to be changing settings. It gives you social sharing
1:58
gives you tons of settings and preferences, and there's also night vision. Now, the front camera
2:04
is using the Sony IMX335 processor chip, and the interior camera is using the IMX307. Not sure why
2:13
they're different, but one's 2K and one's 1K, so that might be why. There is a one-button snapshot
2:19
so as you're driving, you can just push the button, and boom, you have a nice snapshot
2:23
or you can push and hold, and you get a little video snippet, so that's nice. There's a G-sensor
2:29
for crashes, so if, and hopefully you won't, but if you get into an accident, this will record and
2:34
lock that video, so you'll have data that you can look back later, maybe with the police, with the
2:39
insurance company, whatever. And it also has a parking sensor, so if you leave your car parked
2:45
and someone whacks your car, this thing can monitor, record both cameras for like 60 or 90 seconds or
2:52
something, and then it can actually stay alive for up to 30 days after the last time you powered it
2:58
so there's a little battery in here that's just enough for that power. Pretty cool. It's also a
3:04
really cool magnetic mount, which I ingeniously left the windshield part of that in the car that
3:09
I borrowed for my recent road trip, so I have to get that back. Can't demo it to you, but the top
3:14
is a magnet, so what's nice is that once you get it put onto the windshield in the right location
3:20
it's really easy to put it on, and it's really easy to take it off and put this in your pocket
3:24
or put this in your glove compartment or something, so if someone peeks in your car
3:29
they don't actually see this desirable electronic device sitting there, ready to possibly nab
3:35
Am I frustrated that I forgot my device, the dash cam mount? Oh yeah, I am, but I am going to get it
3:40
back, so no crisis. So all of this, super interesting, there's even more to talk about, but honestly
3:46
let's get into some examples. So first off, here's an example. This is just a front cam, obviously
3:52
in full 2k, and this is me just driving down a little country lane in the middle of Missouri
3:58
and you can see the clarity, the color, it's really, really impressive. It's a really
4:04
really nice camera setup. It's also important to make sure your windshield is clean, and you'll
4:11
see on some of my later footage, I actually got a chip on the windshield, kind of a drag, but that
4:17
shows up, you'll see it's like a little like meteor impact. So that's pretty cool. Let me do another
4:22
example, and this time, I'm going to actually show you by cutting back and forth between the
4:28
view out the front windshield, the view in the cabin, and at the whole, you know, the same time
4:35
for the entire duration, I'm going to show you what's on my phone. So there was a lot of
4:40
complicated synchronization to get all of this to work, but hopefully you'll get this. And again
4:45
the audio is directly off the dash cam. This is not from me recording right now. I'm just going
4:50
to go ahead and drive just a little bit so you can see on the phone what the streaming is like
4:57
and I will try to do 300 things at once and not get into an accident, because it would ostensibly
5:04
be appropriate for a dash cam to record an accident, but I don't really want to do that
5:10
That's a little beyond what I'm willing to put up with. So as you can see, as I drive
5:16
even on my phone, you get a really nice stream, but of course, I can't really look at my phone
5:21
because, for obvious reasons, I am actually driving. So I'm going to stop here, and then we'll come back
5:27
on camera. So hang on just a second. And finally, let's do one more. This is a nighttime view
5:34
and this is just, I'm going to mostly be doing it out the windshield, but I'll just cut back for a
5:38
couple of seconds into the interior of the vehicle so you can see it's obviously pretty dark
5:44
So this is recording at night, and it's obviously pretty dark out, but I'm going to go through a
5:50
parking lot with some reasonable amount of lighting, and you can get a sense of
5:55
how the camera processes that. Obviously, the rear-facing camera that's showing you the cabin
6:01
it's pretty darn dark, as it should be if I'm driving, but the front camera is using, actually
6:07
both cameras are using the Sony circuitry to enhance the night view. So what do you think
6:14
Do you think that this is actually something that gives you good clarity in a medium to poorly lit
6:19
area at night, or not? So you can look at the footage, and you can decide. All in all, I'm really
6:26
impressed with this. I mean, nighttime's the hardest of all, but that nighttime out the windshield is
6:31
pretty solid. Nighttime inside the cabin, well, there's just not much light there, so there's not
6:36
much that the camera can do with that footage, but still, all in all, pretty darn sweet. And where is
6:42
it recording, and how does that work? Well, there's a micro SD card slot here, and that's what you use
6:48
to actually save all of your footage, and this gets a little nuanced, right? So you can use anywhere
6:54
from a 16 to 128 gig card. Get a big card. They're not very expensive, but when you look at the video
7:01
on your app, you know, on your phone, and then you download through the app, you get the lower
7:07
resolution video. So it's really important to pop out the card and read it off the card directly if
7:15
you're going to use it for video, for sharing with friends, for watching it on the television
7:20
whatever it is. If you're using it in some high res environment, then you'll want to get it directly
7:26
off the card, directly out of the dash cam. I found that a little confusing. I would rather have when
7:31
I'm in the app, and I say download, I wish it just gave me the option and said, do you want the high
7:36
res version, which is going to take a super long time to download, or do you want the regular version
7:41
which is low res and enough that it's going to look okay on your phone? But it doesn't do that
7:46
currently. So if you want to use the footage for other than, you know, entertainment value with your
7:52
friends and family, then I really highly encourage you to pop out the micro SD card, read the files
7:58
directly off of it, and then put it back in so you can go back to using your dash cam. All in all
8:05
super fun, really impressed with this. It's a very nice device, very well engineered, all the way from
8:12
the invisible windshield mount, which here's a photo, by the way, of it mounted on the windshield
8:17
You can see it's super easy to work with. And, you know, all the way from that to the video footage
8:23
to the ability to work with it in the app, everything's really good. This is a really good
8:29
dash cam option and 2k is a nice resolution. So only thing left to talk about then is the price
8:35
But before we get to the price, let me ask if you can subscribe to my channel
8:39
Really appreciate when you click that button or tap that button and subscribe. Great. This and this
8:47
long cable and separate 12 volt cigarette lighter, right, adapter with two USB. So when you plug this
8:56
in, you don't lose all functionality for your USB or your lighter, which is great. And it's a nice
9:04
long cable with micro USB on the other end that actually plugs directly into the bottom of this
9:09
which is the Vava VD009 2k dual camera dash cam. And it is 199.99 at vava.com. And I would say this
9:22
is one of the best dash cams I've looked at. And I really need to get that silly mount back
9:27
because I want to put this on my car and I want to continue using it really, really well engineered
9:32
device, really fun to get all this footage. And who knows, you might find amazing footage. You just
9:38
didn't even realize you were driving along and you didn't realize something really cool passed by
9:42
So with that, I'm going to catch you in my next video
