A smart wallet? Let's check it out
0:09
Dave Taylor here, and I'm looking at this. This is the Exter 3.0 smart wallet
0:15
And it's actually full of my son's stuff because as soon as he saw this wallet, he said
0:20
ooh, I want that. So, at its most obvious, it's a very tiny slim wallet with space for a couple of cards here
0:27
You can see this sort of a money clip thing. And its real claim to fame is that there's a push button on the side that extends your card
0:35
making it easy for you to get to them. And then, of course, you can push them all back down
0:40
So, okay, what makes it a smart wallet? Well, what makes it a smart wallet is that it has this tracker built into it
0:47
or I guess that you can slide into it, right? So with this tracker, for example, with my paired phone, I can double tap on the tracker
0:55
and I can find my phone. if my phone is lost. It's pretty sweet. Now I can do it the other way too. So we'll put the wallet here
1:05
And now I'm going to just go into Siri and say, let's see, find my wallet
1:16
So now the wallet is actually beeping, which helps me find it if it's lost in the couch or otherwise somewhere
1:23
in the house and I just can't find it. And when you're done, you just double push on that and you're good to go
1:29
which then leads to the question of what's the deal with this right so this
1:34
actual little tracker is pretty interesting so you need to give it some
1:39
sunlight it's a little solar panel on the top but three hours of sunlight will
1:44
power this for two months that's a long time that means we got a lot going on
1:49
go ahead and turn Siri off here Siri's being a little over enthusiastic there
1:55
so the tracker is really one of the most interesting things and you can can actually buy this by itself And you can see it really thin It not quite as thin as a credit card It maybe about two credit cards thickness but pretty cool technology
2:09
And it pairs with an app on your smartphone, and that's how all of this stuff is working
2:13
So pretty interesting idea. Now, let's talk about the wallet itself, because, of course, that's a piece of this review too, right
2:21
So RFID shielded. It is premium leather, and they're using what's known as LWW
2:27
environmental tanning systems or a company they work with does this and so tanning
2:32
leather is generally a pretty environmentally scary process but the company they're
2:37
working with to get their premium leather is actually doesn't do that so that's
2:41
worth investigating if you're actually somewhere who actually cares about all this
2:45
now the slider can support up to six cards and then as you can see you have a
2:51
little sort of expandable clip here so you put some money in and the whole thing
2:55
becomes nice and slim and It's really hard to over stuff it with cards because there just ain't room for it
3:01
So if you're tired of having a really fat wallet, this is one solution
3:05
This forces you to be a little bit more thoughtful about what you're carrying
3:09
Now let's say that I lose this, but I lose this outside of my house
3:14
How can I find it? Turns out that the tracker is actually crowdsourced data
3:19
So as long as it's within someone who has this app's range, you can find it even if it's
3:25
on the bus or across town or maybe you left it in an airplane, right? So that's not super
3:31
reliable. So I wouldn't count on this being something that you'll be able to find anywhere in the
3:36
world regardless of what happens because it's not quite that good. But if you're in a dense urban
3:41
environment, odds are pretty good. Someone else has a compatible technology and they can identify this
3:47
you know, and it's going to run for two months on a charge. So they'll be able to identify this
3:52
and then their Apple report to the central system, which will then report to you
3:57
and you can find your wallet even elsewhere. That is pretty cool Again it not 100 you know the whole sort of crowd sourcing things like tile and everything It a mixed bag Sometimes it works great Other times you just don have anyone that using it So be that as it may The whole thing is one third of an inch thick And obviously it could be thinner if we took out my son money which will make him very sad while it becomes thinner And hey this looks like my money No just kidding I not going to take it
4:29
his money. He works hard for getting this money. So we're going to put it back in. Everything's good
4:35
So I will say that the reason I let my son use this was so he could get some field data
4:42
actually trying it out. And he's sort of ambivalent about it. He really likes some of the pieces
4:47
of it. But while the card extender technology is kind of a neat gimmick, it also ends up taking
4:54
up some of the thickness of the wallet for the mechanism. And he's not a huge
4:59
fan of that. Now, if you take the tracker out and you take the money out, the wallet itself is
5:05
pretty darn thin, but you're still definitely sacrificing some size and some of the form for the
5:13
technology. So this is something that you want to look at before you decide, you know, decide to
5:18
try one of these versus a twofold or a trifold or there's so many other styles of wallets
5:23
But on the other hand, he does really like it. And every single time that he like does this
5:29
to pull his card out, people are like, whoa, what's that? That's very cool. So it does have that
5:34
neat factor. So there's that. This is the Parliament wallet from Exter, and this is their third
5:41
generation. They've been working on trying to get this stuff to be slimmer and more reliable
5:45
and more cards in here. And this, I believe, is their second generation tracker system. So all very
5:51
cool. It comes in a ton of colors. It comes in brown, black, blue, cognac, green, red
5:59
and beige This obviously is the black version Very nice Now the only thing left to talk about is the price But before we get to the price i going to just reassemble it while we talking before we get to the price i going to
6:12
ask if you yes you can take my money no if you can subscribe to my channel that would be really
6:19
great just click that darn button and subscribe and we can stay in touch super cool now let's talk about
6:25
the price the extra 3.0 smart wallet with cool carding extender and the tracking card too is $79 at Exeter.com or if you want the fancier
6:40
Vashetta leather. I don't actually know what's fancier about it, but it's certainly more pretty
6:46
That's $89. Now, if you're looking at this and you're like, you know, not super excited about the
6:53
wallet, but that tracker card is really cool. So it turns out you can buy this separately
6:57
If you just want this and this will work with the app and everything else works the same and you want to just slip this into your existing wallet or maybe your purse, then totally separate and available
7:08
It is $49 to just buy the tracker card. So, $79 gets you the wallet and the tracker card
7:16
$89 gets you the wallet and the tracker card in the super duper premium leather or $49 for the tracker card itself
7:24
I'm not 100% sold on this, but it's a very interesting tech. And if you constantly are hunting because you've lost your wallet, this can be a lifesaver for you and also help you retain your sanity. And that's an important thing. So with that, it's Dave Taylor. I'm going to continue and finish up reassembling my son's wallet, which will make him a happy guy. And I will catch you in my next video
