Lots of consumer electronics companies have been inspired by the popular Apple AirPods, but when their competing product offers the same features at the same price, well, that's not very compelling. Taotronics took a different route and the TWS Bluetooth Earbuds (TT-BH053) are a great alternative, offering much of the capabilities of the expensive Apple earbuds, but at a budget price you won't believe.
Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ checks out the Taotronics True Wireless Earbuds and finds that they are surprisingly good for their price. They'd make a great gift for kids or anyone forgetful too, and at the price, it's not a crisis if you lose them either!

They're true wireless earbuds and you won't believe the price. Let's check them out
0:12
Dave Taylor here and you know there's this category of audio gear that has become
0:16
super super popular and that's known as TWS. That stands for true wireless stereo. Kind of a dull
0:23
name for an interesting category. This whole thing I think was really created by Apple with its AirPods
0:29
but all these other companies have been trying to figure out how they can duplicate that design or
0:34
functionality and have a different price point and obviously get some market share. Enter Tautronics
0:41
and they have these. This is an interesting new addition to the market. These are their true
0:46
wireless earbuds known as the TT-BH053 and you can see they come in a little charging case and
0:55
very nice. It's like three inches by one and a half inch by one inch. Super easy to carry. Gives
1:01
you a ton of battery life. We'll come back to that. But what I most like about it is they actually
1:06
work pretty well. So you take them out and this is a charging case and by the time I put it in my ear
1:14
it's already paired and turned on and then when I pull the other one out they pair and now I have
1:21
stereo pairing and PWS connected. So all ready to roll. My phone already is paired with it because
1:29
I've already done that initial pairing. Let me take them out because it's a little hard to talk
1:33
with it in and they're ready to rock and roll. They feature Bluetooth 5.0 so so far in my experience
1:40
I've had zero dropouts and I walk you know 5, 10, 15 feet away from my phone sometimes and you can
1:48
definitely get far enough away that they just disconnect but then when you get back in range
1:52
they reconnect and you're ready to go again. So pretty nice. They feature six millimeter dynamic
1:58
drivers and battery wise they have a remarkable 40 hours of play time because it's five hours on
2:05
a single charge. So you put these in your ears and you're good to go for five hours and then you need
2:10
to recharge them. Well that's easy enough. You just drop them back in the case and as you can see
2:15
there's a magnet involved so it's really it's basically impossible to put them in the wrong way
2:21
and they're charging. Now the case itself has a small display on the front that shows you battery
2:27
level. I really like that. I like to know what my battery level is and then the earbuds themselves
2:34
actually have these little tiny blue lights that show you that they're also charging. So that's
2:39
really handy and you get I don't know how many charges out of this. You get 36 hours of additional
2:46
charge so that's five more charges once they're fully charged. When you're ready to charge this
2:53
then there's a micro usb connection on the back. Easy enough. Now in the distinctive white and
2:58
orange box you actually get and this is one of the things that really differentiates this from
3:05
the apple product let's keep that up is that you not only get the charging cable which I guess is
3:12
important but I'm sure you already have a micro usb but here's the difference. The difference is
3:18
is it actually uses ear tips and that's great because that means you can put different size
3:23
ear tips in and it comes with three different sizes. Now I think that's super important because
3:29
one of the biggest limitations with the apple airpods is they are one size fits all and generally
3:34
speaking one size doesn't fit all so well. So these actually are really a nice design. They
3:41
obviously look very very similar to the apple product and when you put it in your ear as you
3:47
can see in this close-up it looks like a black version of the airpods. Now to be fair as far as
3:53
I can tell there's not much in the way of a speaker or anything or a microphone going on on the bottom
3:59
because they obviously can work for phone calls too. So that does differentiate it from the apple
4:04
product but in terms of the in-ear look people are going to say black airpods? Wow where'd you
4:10
get those? So nice. They are also sweat proof and they have touch controls and there's a lot you can
4:17
do with these touch controls. Let me give you a quick little table here of all the different
4:21
functions. So single tap, double tap, left ear, right ear. I guess you can learn all of this
4:28
My whole experience is I just control all my audio from my bluetooth source device
4:33
typically my phone. So if I want to pause I'm not going to like try to remember is that a double tap
4:38
on the right ear or a triple tap on the left ear. I don't even know. I'll just stop it on my phone
4:44
itself. Makes life a lot easier. So three sizes of ear tips and they're really easy to work with as
4:51
I already said. Basically as you pull them out they will begin the pairing process. So by the time you
4:57
get it in your ear it's probably paired. By the time you get the second one out and the second
5:03
one in your ear, and I do occasionally have some problems getting them out of the case
5:07
they're a little slippery, but by the time you get the second one in then they're paired to each other
5:13
and they're paired to the device. In fact you saw my phone light up to indicate that it's now paired
5:18
so they're ready to go. Now when you're done you put them back in the case and by the time they're
5:24
fully in the case, this is so glorious, by the time they're fully in the case they have correctly
5:29
unpaired from your phone and are back in a like quiet mode so that they can fully charge quickly
5:35
So that's pretty cool. There's so much that they've done right. I feel like there's been enough time
5:41
in this market segment for all of this stuff to really mature. So all the technology is actually
5:46
pretty slick. Now let's see you can also use it in single bud mode but only with the left earbud. So
5:54
if you're really desperate you can put your right one in to charge and listen with just the left one
5:59
then there's a little bit of fiddling to get them to pair up again. It's not that big a deal
6:04
In terms of watching videos or something there is no lag that I can detect so that works fine
6:10
And phone calls, well you know it's a phone call and the microphone's here instead of here. So
6:19
it's okay you can make do with this. Now I think actually the microphone and the design and the
6:26
phone calls on the AirPod is absolutely its saving grace. I have a pair and I use them for phone
6:31
calls. I really like that. For listening to music I have much better options. But you know these
6:37
going back to the Tautronics, these are okay for phone calls. I don't think anyone's going to
6:42
complain but they might say you sound a little echoey or you're a little far away or something
6:47
like that. So you might have to speak up a little bit which of course if you're in a public place
6:51
like people do it's super annoying to everyone else just for the record. I just want to say
6:57
when I'm sitting in a public place and someone else is on the phone and they're loud it's annoying
7:04
But hey that's my issue right? So now the only other thing to really talk about is the overall
7:09
audio quality. What does it sound like to listen to music with the Tautronics True Wireless Earbuds
7:15
and the answer is first make sure you have the right size ear tips. That's actually really
7:20
important but if you do they actually sound surprisingly good. I was actually pretty
7:26
quite astonished really when I put them in and I put on some music and I'm like wow bass you know
7:33
So there's a really nice sound. It's not really clear. There's not a lot of detail. It's not like
7:40
I can't compare these to $400 headphones or something but for what they are for the price
7:46
point and stuff they actually are very listenable and I think they're for a lot of people. These
7:51
will work pretty darn well. So you know soundstage, definition, all that sort of stuff
7:59
You know I'm not gonna go and tell you that these are gonna compare to thousand dollar
8:03
Sennheisers or anything because they don't. But compared to other things in this price point these
8:09
are very good and these are so inexpensive. We'll get to the price in a second but these are so
8:14
inexpensive these are entirely reasonable to give to little kids or teenagers or something
8:19
Though I would recommend a volume limiting technology too especially with little kids
8:24
because they're kind of clueless about that and they're not going to worry about damage to their
8:28
hearing. So they'll just crank things way up on their little iPad or something and you will have
8:33
no idea because these actually do a pretty good job of masking or sealing in the sound and they
8:38
could really be damaging their hearing. So that's another topic that's something you definitely
8:43
should be paying attention to but in terms of these these sound pretty darn nice. I think you'll enjoy
8:49
them. So now before we get to the price and I guarantee you're going to want to stick around
8:53
for the price. Before we get there let me ask if you can subscribe to my channel. I really appreciate
8:59
it. Click that button, subscribe, leave me comments. I reply to every comment even the snarky ones
9:05
Gosh stop doing snark okay please but leave me comments whatever feedback I always appreciate it
9:12
and of course thumbs up is a nice way of saying hey Dave nice job on that video
9:17
So okay these are the TaoTronics True Wireless Earbuds aka TT-BH053 and they are ready for this
9:29
$37.99 at amazon.com $37.99 gets you the earbuds the charging case the ear tips the whole thing
9:41
ready to rock and roll and let's be honest at 37 bucks if you lose these on a plane flight or
9:46
something because you forget to take them out of the pocket or you lose them on the train buy
9:51
another pair. They're remarkably inexpensive I mean really like some of the least expensive
9:56
true wireless earbuds I've checked out and they really do deliver the goods. They sound good
10:02
not fantastic but good. They work with phones they have no lag they have tons of battery life lots to
10:09
like about these. So I say if you're looking for an entry level into the whole world of wireless
10:14
true wireless earbuds these might be your choice. So with that I'll catch you in my next video
