A smart outdoor plug that can handle bad weather
0:02
Let's check it out. Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this
0:13
This is the I-Clever outdoor smart plug, and it's actually two different power outlets
0:19
and it's rated for outdoor use, which doesn't mean you have to use it outdoor
0:24
But let's actually give it a test. I have two different types of Christmas lights
0:29
All right, there aren't. They might be Halloween lights. I'm going to plug them both in
0:34
And then, since it has all these capabilities, we're going to actually give it a test
0:38
Alexa, turn on outdoor lights. How's that for nice? Now, I-Clever actually has something called their smart home app
0:49
And within that, you actually gain a lot of control over this particular device
0:54
So I can turn off one light or turn it back on. Or I can even set timers and things
0:59
So that's all really nice and simple. The setup's a little tricky
1:05
It was a little confusing that you have to have the smart home skill in Alexa And when I actually went to have it scan for new devices it didn say that it found any but then when I looked in Alexa then the outdoor plug was already there So that worked out really well Now it also works with Google Assistant but I have a primarily Amazon Alexa powered home so that how I use it The plug itself is pretty big and substantial It even has actually a mounting hook on the back if you want to put it against say the side of your house or something Or this could be good in the garage where you might have
1:40
poor environmental control, right? So it does have built-in surge protection, overheating protection
1:47
and it is water resistant. So theoretically, you can leave it out in the rain or snow and it'll work
1:52
fine. And I love both with timers and the control from your phone or from your Amazon device
1:59
I love the idea of having this for my Christmas lights where I can actually set it up where
2:04
every night at 6 p.m., the Christmas lights turn on, and then I can make it part of a more complicated
2:10
group or setting where I might say turn off all the lights and this is part of what it turns off
2:16
So that's really cool. Now in terms of specs this has maximum power of 1875 watts maximum current of 15 amps and its rated voltage 125 volts So it going to do just fine unless you have one of those super over the top outside Christmas light setups in which case you probably need to think about
2:39
power very carefully anyway. But this should work great for you. Oh, and one other thing that I
2:45
really like about it is that it has a button. So if your Wi-Fi goes wonky, if there's something
2:53
else going on, then you're okay. I noticed that some of my lights aren't lighting up. I'm afraid
2:59
that's out of this control. This does not have a dimmer feature. Some people have asked whether it can
3:05
actually dim or do half voltage. It doesn't do that. But it obviously does on and off remotely
3:11
And from the app, it's very easy to take care of all that. And I can do this from 50 miles away from
3:17
the other side of the planet. I can say, well, I think actually back in my home, it's nighttime. So we're going to go
3:23
ahead and turn on those outside lights and it doesn't have to be for holiday lights it could be for
3:27
anything so all of this super easy super straightforward to work with and i'm already a fan of ikelever
3:34
they make really nice devices and this is just another addition to the light now before i tell you
3:39
the price please go ahead and subscribe to my channel really appreciate when you do that and if you using outside lighting let me know in the comments how are you managing to have that go on and off Do you have some sort of rudimentary timer or do you actually physically go outside and plug it in
3:55
or unplug it? So if that's the case, then how do you deal with the days you're not home? Or do you
4:00
just leave it on all the time? Which I guess is good for the power bill, but not so good for
4:04
you're paying the power bill. Anyway, so here's what we got. We have the iClever Out
4:11
door smart plug and it will cost you 2999 at amazon.com and if you're looking for a way to simplify
4:19
control of your lights either outside or inside or in your shop or in your basement or anywhere where
4:26
you don't have great environmental control really anywhere at all then this is a really nice solution
4:31
so with that this is dave taylor and i'm going to actually go and hook up my real christmas lights
4:36
which means i'll catch you in my next video
