Why have headphones pushing at your ears for hours when you can have your speaker comfortably resetting around your shoulders? The wireless Panasonic SoundSlayer Wearable Speaker offers just that option for gamers, movie viewers, even people wanting to chat with a friend while gardening or doing chores. Tech expert Dave Taylor checks it out and finds it an interesting, if somewhat unusual and niche, audio solution for PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch owners.

A speaker you wear around your neck
0:02
Let's check this out. Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this
0:12
This is the Panasonic Sound Slayer wearable speaker. This is model SCGNW10, and it's the second generation of their sound slayer
0:22
The first generation was wired. Not fantastic. This one is fully wireless, and it's wireless because it's, you know
0:29
utilizing 2.4 gigahertz. So this is the transmitter you plug into your PC or PS4 or PS5 or Nintendo
0:39
Switch. And then this is the receiver with its own rechargeable battery. And it's super easy to work
0:47
with as long as I get everything turned on. So one of the things I will say, hasten up front to say
0:53
is it comes with two cables, a long and a short. The short cable will not work with the transmitter
1:00
If you try to do that because you have a laptop, you will be highly disappointed and wonder why it's not working
1:05
So the trick there is use the longer cable. Now, let me get this plugged in
1:12
And then I will plug it into the transmitter. And that's pretty easy
1:17
On the front, there's a light, and it's going to be flashing because it's trying to pair
1:22
But once it's actually paired with the unit, then it goes solid
1:27
So that's all I have to do, and it's good to go. And of course with a regular PC, this is going to be behind your desk and this is going to just be sitting under your monitor or something
1:37
But let's just cut to the chase and listen to some music. And it actually sounds really good
1:46
And of course, what's nice is that not only is it a really nice sound and it gives you that sort of portability and flexibility to move around
1:56
But there's nothing on your head. There no ear fatigue if you wear glasses There no competition between earbuds or in headphones and glasses You know it is the same as sort of having speakers in as much as you can just hide what you doing with people around you
2:13
But hopefully that's not an issue. And it's really cool that you can actually go into another room
2:20
You need to go in the kitchen and grab a beverage. You can do that and the music comes with you or the audio from the game comes with you
2:28
Now, one of the other really cool things is it has a built-in microphone
2:32
And not only does it have a built-in microphone, but that microphone has an AI noise cancellation mode
2:39
And I know everything is AI, but this one actually works really well
2:43
So I'm going to play for you some background noise. So you can hear that
2:50
So I'm going to pause it. And then what I'm going to do is I'm going to actually record this microphone
2:55
And while I'm recording, turn on that background noise. and keep talking and you'll be able to see, or here, I should say, that you can't hear that at all
3:05
It's really quite marvelous. So let's get into the voice recording. And so now what you're hearing is my voice is picked up by the Sound Slayer wearable
3:18
So let's go back to that other space and I'm going to turn on that background noise
3:23
And so I can hear that noise, but the Sound Slayer's AI system is
3:28
trying to mask that from the microphone. So the person on the other end doesn't get that sort of feedback loop or AI
3:36
And I think it works pretty darn well. Let me turn it off. And you can hear there's really not much difference at all
3:43
So it does a nice job. And again, what's nice about this microphone is that I can get up and walk around and, I don't know
3:51
go check the mail or see who's knocking on the door or let the dog in or something
3:55
And I'm on microphone the whole time. and it's all wireless and there's zero essentially zero lag
4:01
So let me switch back to my regular microphone here And I got to say there lots to like here So now let me go back to the music because one of the other cool things is it actually has six
4:14
different sound modes. So if I go back to that music and we go back here, let me actually show you, there are
4:23
some controls and buttons on the device. Let's see, it's all on the left side
4:28
So on the left bottom is this sound. or volume control. And then on the inner left side are three buttons
4:36
one of which is power. The middle one is actually for the switching between the sound modes
4:42
And then the third one actually lets you mute your microphone if you need to check in with someone
4:47
and you don't need the rest of the group to hear it. So I'm going to use that middle button
4:52
to change the sound and step between the six modes. So let's go back to our music
4:59
And I don't know, I don't think you'll be able to hear the difference. but..
5:03
Honestly, they kind of sound the same with this music, but if I turn it off and just push the button. Music. Stereo. R.P.G. FPS. Voice. Cinema
5:29
So those are your six modes. And, you know, I will be fair when you put it into music mode and you're listening to music
5:37
it is a pretty high frequency and sort of a treble oriented sound
5:43
You're not getting a huge amount of bass or anything. But when I actually tried it by playing games, then it actually gives you a nice immersive sound
5:51
Is it as good as a 7.1, you know, super big heavy duty headphone
5:56
That's not as good, but it's different. And at 14 ounces and nine hours of battery life this is way more comfortable and way more convenient to work with And I really like the design This is perfect for for example being out in the garden and you know or doing other things or doing your you know chores or cleaning around the
6:19
house or even just organizing your room or something and then having the music with you and you don't
6:23
have to think about it and you don't have to worry about earbuds falling out or headphones
6:27
squishing your head in or anything like that. So lots to like here. It's kind of a unique product
6:33
It is in a fairly specific category here, but it's actually pretty easy to work with
6:40
and it's a really cool alternative. If you're sick of things on or in your ears
6:45
this is a really good alternative. So definitely one to check out
6:49
Now, I do need to talk about the price because it is a little spendy
6:53
but before we get there, I'm going to invite you to subscribe to my channel
6:57
I always appreciate that. And click on that bell icon so you get notifications of my new content
7:03
And give me a thumbs up if this was a value. Really appreciate all of that
7:07
Cool. Now this, let me take it off again, is the Panasonic Sound Slayer wearable speaker
7:14
and it is $29999 discounted down to $24999 at Amazon.com
7:24
Now, at $250, it's a little spendy for what it is, but it's a really cool design
7:31
So if this is something that appeals to you and you're just sick of having things on and in your ears
7:37
this is a very viable alternative. And with its very minimal lag, it works really well for gaming too
7:45
So definitely one to check out. That's all I got. I think I'm going to go back to my game
7:50
So I'll have to catch you in my next video
