Got a new Apple iPad? Then you should get yourself a stylus to go with it. Of course, the Apple Pencil is ridiculously expensive, but the good news i that there are alternatives! Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ tests out the MoKo Active Stylus Pencil and both the MoKo Slim Smart Case and MoKo Soft TPU Case for the 7th Generation Apple iPad 10.5.
Without a doubt, they offer great value for their surprisingly budget price and with 30 different colors and patterns available for the various MoKo iPad cases, you'd have to be pretty picky not to find one you love! There are a few things you'll want to know about the Active Stylus Pencil before you get one, however...

New iPad, new gear
0:01
Let's check all this out. Dave Taylor here, and I'm looking at some new gear for our Apple iPad 7th generation 10.5 inch
0:17
Their iPads are very complicated to figure out nowadays, which is really an issue when you're looking at cases and compatibility for other accessories
0:26
But we'll get to that in a second. I want to say all three of these are from a company
0:29
called Moco and they're all really remarkably well priced and actually affordable. For example
0:36
their version of the Apple Pencil, what they call their active stylus pen, is only $30. That is a whole
0:43
lot less expensive than the same product from Apple. It's not exactly the same product. It's not
0:49
quite as smart, but it's pretty close and it's really fun to work with. So the pencil is, as you can
0:56
see the size of a regular pencil. It has one button on the side. You push it and it goes into
1:02
pairing mode and just immediately the computer knows what it is. So you just can get started with
1:07
your iPad. No problems. It has multiple tips. And if you look in the box actually, let me
1:13
just open the box and show you, this is really handy because it comes with multiple stylus tips
1:20
Because honestly, getting replacement tips is kind of a pain. So having it come with multiple
1:26
great. So this came with three more tips, which is very nice. It comes with
1:32
instructions, which you probably don't need, but this is important to know
1:36
Comes with its own charging cable. It's a sort of unusual cable because you put
1:40
the base into the cable and then you plug it into anything USB 3 and it charges
1:48
So let's talk about the charge for a second. It is 100 minutes for a full charge from
1:52
completely dead. And that will give you 20 hours of use and up to
1:56
to three years of standby. Now, I didn't see that there's much feedback in terms of how low your
2:02
battery is, which is kind of a drag. And the iPad doesn't seem to give you that information
2:07
which I wish it did. Kesarasa. If your pen dies, make sure you know where your cable is
2:14
plug it in. And an hour and a half later, you're good to go for a good long while. And 20 hours
2:19
of actual use is a lot. And remember, if you just don't use it for 30 minutes, it'll automatically
2:25
turn off so that's 20 hours that could stretch out easily over a week or
2:30
multiple weeks depending on how you use it now it's only compatible with
2:35
anything more recent than 2017 so it's 2018 or more recent iPads let me
2:41
actually give you their chart so you can see and I admit a little complicated but
2:48
go down and look and make sure your iPad is compatible with this pencil
2:52
before you go further of course they have this on their Amazon page so you can go and study it if you need to So it compatible It is rechargeable It has palm rejection So if you using this then you don have to worry about your palm triggering the touch sensitivity thing because that kind of messed up And it a fine tip capacitive It actually really nice This is a one millimeter fiber tip or I sorry one millimeter tip and then they also have a fiber tip in here somewhere I don see where that one is but I haven used that anyway So I just using the fine tip and it includes a case or so they say but I didn see a case in my
3:33
So I'm not sure what that's about. I don't really consider this a case. I consider this packaging
3:38
But it does include the wire and it does include extra tips
3:42
But all that's well and good. Let's actually give it a quick test
3:46
So what I'm going to do for this is I'm going to bring down the
3:51
let's see, it looks like I might have to wake it up. Okay
3:55
I'm going to bring down this and then we're going to just
3:59
so from the shortcut, I'm just going to launch, Notes. Come on, you can do it. Technical difficulty, right? That's always what happens
4:12
with these demos. There we go. Okay, now we got it all working. So now I'm in notes. I'm
4:19
going to just launch a new note. Let's see if I can do that upside down. And now I
4:26
can just draw. And it's really fun because it has the notes app actually has a lot of drawing tools so I can change colors
4:38
Oops, let's try that again. So now I have green. I can choose a different type of pen
4:44
so I can get a finer tip instead of a thicker tip. Highlighter, there's an eraser
4:51
there's a paintbrush, you know, there's lots of stuff. And of course, if I actually
4:56
face it towards me, I can then use it for notes. In fact, let's just go to a new
5:02
and I will actually quickly scribble out. Let's pick a good color
5:06
Maybe white would make sense. And we'll use it with the marker
5:12
And you can see it's super responsive
5:24
So I hope you can see that. It says this is a test and has a smiley face
5:28
I could of course use a thicker pen, but this is just super. super fun and super easy to work with and with its battery life this is a no-brainer
5:37
fun way for for example if you have one of these iPads for your child this is a
5:43
fun way for them to try you know try doing drawing and paintings and illustrations
5:47
and stuff or doodles or sketches or whatever they want to do I am not a master
5:52
artist so you can give me 20 hours and it's still gonna look like amateurish
5:57
chicken scrawlings our chickens good at drawing I don't know but in any case
6:02
You know, it does give you a really nice tool. It's very responsive
6:06
I can leave my hand on here. And because it knows the pens involved, it's going to work just fine with that
6:12
Let get to white Let get to it being a bit thicker so here we go I went to green and now I wrote hello I bet you can see that pretty well It just super fun And you know in the old days these stylists had such a lag It wasn actually very fun to work with But this one is incredibly responsive which probably speaks more to the iPad technology than the stylus But either way this is a no And this is a really
6:42
fun addition to your iPad. But I don't want to just talk about that because Moco also sent me
6:47
a couple of cases. So let's talk about all this. We're just going to sort of look at all these
6:51
simultaneously. So we have these cases. Let's see if I can actually open them. Props to them for having
6:58
very minimal packaging, so there's not that much environmental impact. And this one is, let's see
7:05
this is the stiff back. So they sent me two styles of iPad cases. This is the
7:12
Moco Slim Smart case. So it has microfiber interior. The exterior is a P.U
7:20
Leather, so it's not a real leather. And then the back, of course, is a translucent TPU
7:26
So this one's pretty stiff. I'm going to go ahead and just drop the iPad in. And let's
7:32
see, it looks like it fits perfectly. Every cutout is in the right place. You can still use
7:38
your headphones. Most importantly, you can get to the button. So as you
7:42
you can see in this corner close up. And I don't know if you can tell, but if I close it, it's asleep
7:49
And if I open it, it wakes right up. That's really nice
7:53
Now there are other cases like this. And Apple, of course, sells just the front cover
7:58
But as my daughter says, it's actually her iPad, she wants that extra protections because now
8:04
I have a case that's absorbing impact. And so, you know, this comes in a ton of colors, a ton of patterns
8:12
and you're going to be amazed at the price. I'm going to hold off on prices till the very end
8:16
But this is one of 17 different colors or patterns you can get
8:21
And again, remember, this is the slightly stiffer back because they also sent me a case
8:27
Let's switch now to this purple one. When I communicated with the company, we called this
8:37
what do we call this? We called this, I think, lavender. I look at this and I think maybe orchid, they call it purple
8:44
So this is ostensibly purple. But the big difference between the two cases is this one has a very soft back
8:52
So this is basically the same materials, but it's just designed a little differently
8:57
And if you look at the way the back interfaces with the front, it's very much the same design
9:03
So let's go ahead and put the iPad into this case and see how this one works
9:07
Let's see if it fits in. you know I think at this particular juncture whether you want a hard back or the
9:15
softer back is kind of just up to personal taste they're the same price and I
9:20
think they offer pretty much the same functionality and again you can see in this closeup all the buttons and everything In this one they actually covered The only exposed button is actually the hole
9:33
for the 3.5 millimeter AUX slash headphones jack. Otherwise, most everything is covered up
9:39
I guess on the bottom, the speakers and the charging cable are accessible too
9:44
But this one's a little more protective because it covers up more of the buttons and stuff
9:49
And in terms of which one, one's more protective for your iPad between these two. It's probably a wash dry
9:55
they probably offer the same level of protection. This is their soft TPU case and
10:01
this one only comes in 13 different colors and patterns. So between them you
10:06
have 30 different choices. If you can't find one you like and 30 choices then
10:11
you are really picky. So I really like all of this stuff. This is really well
10:17
designed and obviously just like with the Apple case you can full
10:20
it different ways and you can get it to stand you could do it like this if you
10:25
want you know lots of different ways to use this super easy you close it and your
10:30
iPad's closed you open it up and your iPad wakes up so all of this it's super
10:35
functional ridiculously affordable all of this this whole setup you won't even
10:40
believe how much it costs but before we get there I want to ask if you can
10:44
subscribe to my channel really appreciate when you do that cool so now these are
10:50
Moco seventh generation iPad gear. This is the Moco active stylus pen with
10:58
charging base and extra tips works great with the iPad. Make sure it's compatible
11:03
with yours before you buy one. 3099 at Amazon.com. 30 bucks. That is so much less
11:10
expensive than what Apple is selling you, right? And then in terms of these cases
11:14
well what can I say? The Moco Slim Smart case with the more the
11:20
stiffer back and the Moco soft TPU case with the more flexible back these are pick
11:28
your favorite color or pattern 1299 at amazon.com so you can buy yourself a new
11:34
case and a stylus for under 50 bucks that is pretty sweet compared to if you
11:40
walk into the Apple store and want to acquire these from our favorite iPad
11:44
vendor so definitely worth checking out big fan of all of these these are
11:49
going to stay on here and my daughter is going to be very happy. These are very much colors that she likes
11:54
And I like that one too. That's a pretty cool, honestly, fuchsia
11:58
I don't know what color I're going to call this, but it's not just purple, right
12:02
Anyway, that's all I got. I'm going to go back to that illustration because it's looking pretty rustic right now
12:07
which means that I will catch you in my next video
