There's a lot to like about the Apple AirPods Pro, a reason that they're selling really well and in high demand. Except for that daunting price tag. Enter the MGET i500 Pro wireless headphones, a clone of the AirPods Pro so accurate that it's hard to differentiate when they're side by side. Still, it's not about the look but the sound and functionality that determines the value of headphones from any manufacturer.
Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ ran the MGET i500 Pro Wireless Headphones through a variety of tests and listening situations and compared them feature-by-feature with a genuine pair of Apple AirPods Pro. The result? They look identical. But they don't sound identical, and definitely don't work the same with an Apple device...

Apple AirPods Pro for 1 third the price? Not exactly. Let's have a closer look
0:06
Dave Taylor here and I have this. Well, let's see. Yeah, that's the right box. This and this
0:19
is the Mget i500 Pro wireless headphones, clearly modeled after the Apple AirPods Pro
0:29
Modeled so well that it's pretty hard to tell them apart. Any angle you look at
0:35
you'll see the same thing. In fact, it's quite fascinating to look at how well they've duplicated
0:40
the experience. So let's look in the box, right? So remember on your right are the Mgets and on
0:49
your left, this side is the Apple product. So we have envelope with a notch. We have
0:57
a very similar package design. You might say exactly the same package design and we open it
1:02
up and you see very similar inside. It's amazing really. So again, this is the Apple product and
1:09
it comes with this lightning cable and it comes with these extra size ear tips, but that's okay
1:17
because the Mget does too. So the Mget also has a lightning cable and it also has different
1:24
size ear tips. This is so similar that I can't help wonder if they're coming off the same factory
1:31
line in China because this is just, it's a remarkable coincidence that it would be this
1:37
accurate imitation. But really the critical question is, let me just get this all back
1:43
together. The critical question is not whether they function the same, but whether they sound
1:49
the same. And I'll tell you from the packaging, they're pretty excited about this being so
1:55
similar. Look at the back, right? The only difference is that the Apple product actually
2:02
has printing on the sides, whereas the Mget product has blank sides. So that's handy to
2:09
differentiate. Now, when we look at the earbuds themselves, these are the Mgets and they open up
2:15
and you have the ear pod inside and looks the same. The actual iPhone, once you pair it to an
2:22
iPhone, iOS sees it as Apple AirPods Pro, which is fascinating. We'll get back to that in just a
2:28
second, but looks all much, you know, very much the same. And then we'll grab this and I'll just
2:33
pull one of these out. And here's a closeup, which one's which? It's pretty hard to differentiate
2:40
Which one's which? It's pretty hard to differentiate. Actually, I think the only way
2:45
to differentiate is that the Mget chrome on the bottom of the ear tip goes all the way around
2:53
whereas the chrome on the AirPods Pro actually goes around only about 80% of the way. And I'm
3:00
really glad I can differentiate. Oh, we have a special cat guest star. Hang on just a second
3:08
Oh, cats, right? They're always in the middle of things. But now back to this. One of the few ways
3:14
I can tell the difference is that the Mget case wants to stay closed. So if I tried to leave it
3:21
laying just like I'm doing with the Apple case, it'll close again. Those tiny differences are
3:26
really beneficial because if we look at the back, check out this close up, they even have the same
3:32
printing on the back. I mean, this is something they say is actually a feature. Really interesting
3:37
So with all that in mind and recognizing that these are not actually Apple AirPod Pro
3:44
the AirPods Pro cost 250 bucks plus tax plus shipping if you're going to get it through the
3:50
mail. So this is like a 275 dollar, very premium pair of earbuds. And they're wonderful. I really
3:57
like them. I've reviewed them here. You can check out that review if you're so inclined
4:01
But let's look at the Mgets. So Mget i500 Pro wireless headphones that does wireless charging
4:08
And I've tested it. It works just fine. So you can put it on a charging station. Generally
4:14
a pad that's on the ground works better. So or on your desktop, on your table, you know what I mean
4:20
by that, right? So the ones that are at an angle often have the charging place in the wrong spot
4:25
for something like the ear pods. So that doesn't work. But you get four hours of listening once
4:31
it's charged and you get three more charges from the case, which gives you somewhere around 16 to
4:37
20 hours. So it's less than the Apple product. But again, the whole point of this is that it looks
4:42
the same and it's functionally kind of sorta. So 45 minute charge will give you four hours on your
4:49
ear pods if you really, really need to like, you know, recharge while you're driving to the gym
4:55
or something. It does have an in-ear optical sensor. So if I put it in my ear, it pairs and
5:01
turns on. And if I take it out of my ear, it actually turns off. The phone is working with
5:06
all of this. And in fact, let's go ahead. I'm going to go ahead and put these in my ears and
5:12
I'm going to show you on the phone just how similar that experience is, right? So I have these in
5:18
and it's paired. So now I can see on the top, my charge, the earbuds are at 90%
5:26
If I push and hold the volume, it shows that they're AirPods pro and it even gives me the
5:32
noise canceling options of transparent or off or noise cancellation. The bad news, this has
5:39
no noise cancellation. That's one of the biggest differences between this and the actual Apple
5:45
product. The Apple product has fantastic noise canceling. It's very cool. And when you turn it
5:51
on, you're like, wow, it's so much quieter. These pretend to have that as you can see
5:56
but it doesn't actually have that feature. And it's sort of an interesting choice. And if we go
6:02
into Bluetooth and I go to notice they're called AirPods pro, you can even change the name. So you
6:08
could even call them like Dave's AirPods pro. So no one would know. It gives you all the features
6:14
that you would have on the regular AirPods pro, including the ear tip fit test and automatic ear
6:20
detection and all of that. So they've completely reverse engineered the whole experience, which is
6:25
pretty cool. It also means that you have access to the, like find my iPhone. You can actually use
6:33
it to find the earbuds if you lose one or both of them. So really slick. Um, the iOS experience
6:40
really is similar to the point where it lets you turn on ANC, even though there isn't actually any
6:47
interesting, right? So let's see the function, the duplication of print, you know, again
6:55
you look at the back and it's mighty hard to differentiate between the two. And so what this
7:00
also means among other things is you have to be a little bit alert because someone could sell you
7:06
these through Craigslist or eBay saying that they're Apple AirPods and you'd have a mighty
7:12
hard time differentiating. You would be looking at it and saying, well, the ANC doesn't work, but
7:17
other than that, I mean, they're pretty nice, right? So be careful because this is one of the
7:22
problems with these sort of, I'm going to just use the C word counterfeit products. Obviously they're
7:28
not licensing this technology from Apple and Apple spent billions on research to come up with their
7:33
product, which by the way is selling phenomenally well. Um, on one of the M get sales sites, I
7:40
thought there was a funny quote from the customer leaving a comment. They said, quote, our team has
7:46
no idea they're clones, parentheses, sorry, not sorry. It's just like, you don't really want to
7:52
get into the habit of lying to your child. If you're going to get them something that's similar
7:56
to the AirPods pro, but they can tell their friends whatever they want, then don't tell them their
8:02
actual AirPods pro probably not great parenting. Um, which leads us to the question of, so how do
8:09
they sound? And the answer is not great. You know, there's so much engineering Apple's put into their
8:19
exact earbuds that these are maybe using a lot of similar parts and components, but they're not as
8:26
good. There's latency issues with video. I had a lot of disconnect problems where I literally had
8:32
the phone no further than this from my ears. And I would have one of the, you know, one of them
8:39
disconnect for a second, then both of them disconnect. And then, you know, the other one
8:43
disconnect and then they'd reconnect and I'd be fine for 10 or 15 minutes. And then one of them
8:48
would lose signal again. And I never, ever, ever have that problem with the Apple product. So
8:55
you know, it's an inferior product, but it is also a dramatically lower price. So I guess it
9:01
depends on where you're at. There are people that buy fake Rolex watches, knowing that someone's
9:06
going to say, Oh, Rolex, very impressive without you ever having to explain. Yeah, it's kind of a
9:12
knockoff I got from some guy on the street, right? You know, if that's the thing, if you're looking
9:17
for the, the appearance of having the newest high-end Apple product, then this does an
9:23
extraordinary job, such an extraordinary job that it's hard to imagine that Apple doesn't have a
9:29
cease and desist with this company. But hey, you can make your choices. I'm not a huge fan of these
9:35
sort of products, but there's a market for them, right? So this is literally under $70. I'll come
9:41
back to the price in just a second. But, you know, compared to almost $300 for this product
9:47
yeah, these aren't as good, but there is dramatically less expensive and not everyone
9:52
can drop $250 on a pair of earbuds. So that's really kind of what I got to say is the sound
9:59
is good. It's not great. It's good. I was concerned by the disconnect problems that I had. You might
10:05
have a different experience with yours, but you know, I also have an iPhone 11 pro. So this is
10:10
the very latest Bluetooth circuitry from Apple. Yes, you could also use these with an Android
10:17
device or any other computer like a Windows machine that has Bluetooth. So you're not stuck
10:22
using just an Apple product with these. You're not either. But with these, you're probably not
10:26
going to be buying $250 AirPods unless you're going to be pairing them with an Apple device
10:31
because that experience is so smooth. So, you know, there is a market case for these. I understand why
10:38
people are interested in these sort of products at the price. These are still a little spendy
10:43
particularly given that they don't have ANC. So it's really just a sort of duplication of all of
10:49
the looks and all of the features set without getting kind of all of the most important feature
10:55
set. So before I give the price and actually explain how that all works, let me just ask if
11:01
you would be so kind as to subscribe to my channel. Really appreciate when you do that
11:06
Cool. Now, these Mget i500 Pro wireless headphones, obviously looking remarkably similar
11:15
to the Apple AirPods Pro, will cost you $89.99. But when I checked their factory direct site
11:25
it was on a special promo for $67.50. Poke around on the internet. You can find them for around $70
11:31
$75 in various places. Make sure you get the Mget i500 Pro, however. Otherwise, the Mget i500
11:41
actually just looks like the regular Apple AirPods. So not the same style, not the same
11:46
appearance at all. Probably the same circuitry inside. I don't know. Anyway, they come in black
11:52
or white. These are obviously the white ones and they are, you know, for what they are, they're
11:58
pretty interesting. So you can check it out at madgeniuset.com. I don't know what that name comes
12:05
from, but so check them out on madgeniuset.com, somewhere between $89 and $67. And if these are
12:14
your thing and you want to try using these, then do leave me a comment and let me know what you
12:19
think of them once you actually got your pair. If not, well, you know, the Apple AirPods Pro
12:26
the actual real thing, not only look good, but they sound amazing. And with that, my cat will
12:32
give it the sniff of approval, which means I will catch you and my cat will also catch you in my next video
