The Google Pixel lineup keeps getting better, and the real heroes of the lineup are the "a" series. The Google Pixel 7a is another homerun for the company with its great specs. it's an all-around upgrade from the Pixel 6a and AT&T has it at a killer introductory rate too. Tech expert Dave Taylor walks you through its specs as he unboxes the Pixel 7a on camera.

The Google Pixel 7A, let's see what's in the box
0:10
Dave Taylor here, and I've gone through a lot of Google Pixel phones
0:14
Now, for a while, Google was just sending me their latest model, which was pretty sweet
0:19
But at this point, I just have a stack of them, including this, which was very popular
0:24
This is the Google Pixel 6A. So when Google came out with its new line of seven phones, this was a logical addition to the lineup and one that many people were curious about
0:37
This is the Google Pixel 7A Android smartphone. And they've done a lot of upgrades
0:43
The biggest, most important upgrade that you'll notice from the 6A is the display
0:49
It's a 6.1 inch OLED at 1080 by 2400, so that's the same, but it's at 90 hertz
0:57
rather than 60 Hertz refresh. And that does make a difference. It does make it look better
1:02
Now, right after that is probably the biggest disappointment is that they use Google, sorry, they use Gorilla Glass 3
1:10
which is a really old version of Corning's really tough glass surface
1:16
And for any phone, whatever the price, you want it to be tough and durable
1:20
And Gorilla Glass 3 is pretty old school. I think it's over a decade old at this point
1:26
Now, it does have underglass fingerprint scanning. It's an aluminum frame with a plastic back, not too far off from the 6A
1:35
And another big change is that it's powered by the Google Tensor G2 octacore CPU
1:42
This is a G1, so you get better performance on this, and it has lower power demands
1:48
which means that even with its slightly smaller battery, it actually gives you better battery life
1:54
but I know you want to see what's in the box. So let me just get a couple more specs for you
1:58
Android 13, 128 gig of RAM, stereo speakers. I don't think we're going to see a 3.5 millimeter jack
2:05
I miss that. I wish they were in phones. That's how it goes
2:10
IP 67 dust resistance. So if you spill coffee on it or it falls into the sink
2:16
while you're washing your hands or something, just take it out and let it dry off. You'll be fine
2:20
Do not put it in the deep end of your pool for 24 hours That is not IP 67 It not that good Bluetooth 5 the very latest it should charge by USBC And battery and cameras let open it and then I tell you a little more about it
2:36
Now, one of the things that Google's done is that you don't need a knife anymore
2:40
It used to be it was shrink-wrapped, but now they have these little pull tabs
2:44
So that's one side. And there's the other side. This is very similar to a modern iPhone opening
2:52
you open it up and in the box on the top it's funny there's a little cut out
2:57
because it comes out backwards or screen down which means that the strip that has the
3:04
cameras in it actually is raised up slightly so that's a good reason to get a case in my
3:10
opinion to get a little more protection but speaking of the cameras the two cameras here
3:15
the rear facing cameras are a 64 megapixel f1.9 26 millimeter wide camera
3:22
And the one next to it is a 13 megapixel F2.2.2 120 degree ultra wide. Pretty nice. Now, let's take this out of the box and the front is protected. That's nice. And so then there's a front facing camera and the front facing camera is a 13 megapixel F2.20 millimeter ultra wide. Now let's see if this will power up. Modern devices seem to be shipped with about an 80
3:52
charge and this one indeed is powering up. It's not going to get to the home screen
3:57
obviously, because it needs some setup. But I can tell you that it's powered by a 4385 mill amp hour
4:05
battery and it supports chi charging, which is interesting because the A series hasn't had
4:10
Chi charging. And I feel like pixels sort of back and forth. Sometimes Google has the pixel
4:15
phones supporting that wireless charging. Sometimes they don't. Honestly, I'm not sure it really matters
4:22
and Pixel does a nice job of knowing it's on the wireless charger and giving you a different lock screen
4:30
So this is saying, welcome to your pixel, and it's giving me the option of different languages
4:35
I'll do this setup a little later, not right now, but back to the battery. So, 4385 millanph hour battery, 30 minutes gives you a 50% charge
4:44
That's 30 minutes with USBC, giving you a 50% charge. And then it gives you somewhere between 24 and 30 hours of active use So that pretty nice Now let get back to the box So we have the phone I move this 6A to the side And then here everything else in the box
5:03
It's, you know, modern smartphone boxes have a lot less in them than they used to
5:07
So we have a USBC to USBC cable. That's for charging and data transfer. And then we have, they're still shipping
5:20
USBC to USBA adapter. So you can use this in a pinch
5:28
You can, for example, if you have a USBA cable, you could do something like this
5:33
And now you could plug that in. So that I guess is helpful
5:37
I haven't needed one of these adapters for a while. And then let's see, what else
5:42
So that's pretty much the box. And then there's this, which has the SIM removal tool tucked on the outside
5:50
And if we open it up, I'm expecting just documentation. Yeah, Google, unlike Apple, Google doesn't ship with cool stickers
5:59
Google, at some point, you should have pixel stickers. Why not? So it gives you a little start point, which gives you different URLs for help for your phone
6:08
And then this looks like it's just regulatory information, which is why it's printed so small that even if I zoomed in on it
6:17
you still couldn't read it because I don't think anyone in the, history of this phone line has ever read one of these documents. But that's everything. That's
6:26
everything in the box. It's very streamlined. You get a charging cable. You get the adapter. What you
6:32
don't get is you don't get the wall power adapter. So you're going to need to supply your own
6:36
And of course, you get the Google Pixel 7A and it's very nice. There's a lot about this. I'm
6:43
excited to try out. And I will be trying it out. And I will be giving you a full rundown with lots of demos
6:50
tuned for that. Now in terms of this I will say that dimensions wise it's 5.9 inches by 2.8 inches
6:57
by 0.35 inches and it's 6.8 ounces. Is it heavier or lighter than the 6a? Hmm. Feels about the same
7:07
actually and in terms of its upsize and everything well looks like it's just the slightest bit
7:15
taller and just slightly wider but otherwise As you can see in this photo there a lot of similarity between the 6A which is on the right and the 7A which is on the left If you can tell which is which
7:30
from the back, then you're doing really well. So, all we need to do is talk about the price
7:36
but before we get to the price, I'm going to ask you to subscribe to my channel, click on that
7:40
subscribe button, we're connected. And if you found this helpful, useful, interesting
7:45
entertaining. Give me a thumbs up or a like. Appreciate that too. And so let's talk about the price
7:52
So this AT&T sent me this one to check out, which was super nice of them. So it comes in
7:57
and this is really the back color, charcoal, snow, C, or coral. You can sort of map in your head
8:05
which color is corresponding to which fancy name. And it's $519 straight out at ATT.com. You can find
8:15
it cheaper if you want to just buy it flat out but where AT&T is really winning here is you can also
8:21
get it for $2 a month for 36 months so obviously as part of your contract but for two bucks a month
8:28
this is an unbelievably good deal on this phone which has a lot going for it and as I said earlier
8:36
there is sadly no jack in fact let's do a quick tour of the edges so on the bottom you can see
8:43
USBC and two cutouts for speakers. On the left, there's really nothing other than that SIM card slot. On the top, there's literally nothing. And on the right, there's a very typical power button and then volume up and down buttons. That's all of it. I mean, all of these phones, they're really pretty sealed units at this point, which is why you can get to IP67. Remember the old days where if you'd even got a drop of moisture on it, it was dead and you were out of luck
9:13
So glad we're beyond that point. Anyway, that's everything. This is the Google Pixel 7A Android smartphone
9:21
and it's definitely one worth checking out, which is exactly what I'll be doing
9:25
So for now, I'll just have to say that I'll catch you in my next video
