Got a dark room or an area where you'd just like more, better, warmer light? Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ had the chance to assemble and test out two different styles of LED light from Gladle; the Gladle LED Floor Lamp and the Gladle LED Gooseneck Reading Lamp to see how they'd work in his house. Assembly is surprisingly easy and straightforward and once you get the hang of their touch controls, both offer great, warm lighting suitable for a variety of home or office situations.

Dark corner of your house? Let's shed some light on it
0:11
Dave Taylor here and I'm talking about lighting in a dark corner of my front hallway. How perfect
0:16
is that, right? So I got two different kind of lights from the same company. A company called
0:22
Gladle, I guess that's how you pronounce their name, not sure. One of which is their floor lamp
0:26
which I've already assembled and the other one is their gooseneck lamp which I haven't yet
0:32
assembled. It is actually fairly amazing to me that you can get a lamp that is this tall in a
0:39
box that is this small. Somehow I expect a super long box but nowadays they've figured out how to
0:46
get everything to assemble on the user's end and that's a little tricky. So let's start with this
0:52
one. This, let me turn it on, is, and then I can change brightness, this is the GTLT09 and it is a
1:04
floor lamp as you can see. It has five levels of brightness which is a little hard for you to see
1:10
because everything else is well illuminated but it is the equivalent of a 200 watt bulb when fully
1:16
illuminated. It is LED as is this one too and it is a 3000 Kelvin temperature so it's a warm
1:24
orangey light rather than a sort of harsh blue light. Much better for evenings, right? And a
1:31
50,000 hour bulb, that's pretty impressive. And it also tilts, check that out. So you can tilt it and
1:38
then you can actually move it to point it in the direction you want. On the side there are touch
1:44
controls. So the bottom one is power on off and the top one gives you access to all the different
1:50
levels there. That's the brightest setting and they talk about this being smart plug compatible
1:55
What they mean by that is if I actually turned it off and then turned it on again it will remember
2:02
and it will go back to the last setting I had which means I can just as easily have it plugged
2:08
into a smart plug and then I can say something like, hey Alex, I can't say the real word because
2:14
there's too many devices listening, turn on floor lamp and then boom it would turn on to whatever
2:20
setting I had left it at. That's pretty sweet. So it is 70 inches tall. It's really actually a tall
2:27
light which is part of the challenge with filming this video, right? So 70 inches tall, the base is
2:33
10 inches. It's a pretty heavy stable base. You can see that it's a tiny bit wobbly as is the
2:40
nature of this sort of architecture or design but it's stable. It definitely doesn't feel like it's
2:46
going to fall anywhere. Now here's an interesting thing is that the pictures even on the box
2:52
show a stem that goes all the way down to the base and a wire that comes out of the base but
2:58
on this particular stem the wire actually comes out about two inches from the bottom so when I
3:04
screwed all the pieces together there was no way to get that wire to go under the base. So as you
3:10
can see on this close-up the bottom is a little bit messy but on the other hand so what? It's not
3:16
like I'm going to be seeing this, right? More likely I'm going to put this behind a couch or something
3:21
but still I am curious what the deal is because most of their photos of their product show a
3:28
stem that goes all the way through and a wire that goes through the base which I just can't do
3:33
with this setup. So I'm going to reach out to the company and if you read the description of this
3:38
video I will give you what they told me in terms of what the explanation is. So it is nonetheless
3:46
a really nice light. I really like it. So comes in black or white. I'll get to the prices at the
3:52
very end because what I really also want to do is I want to show you how you build one of these
3:56
because it's really a nifty piece of engineering. So first off it comes in a box and you can see
4:04
this is the gooseneck one so the light itself is a little different. This is more like a reading
4:09
light that you would have over your comfortable chair or something and then you just sort of
4:18
screw all the pieces together. It's pretty easy. So there's one then there's two and the finish I
4:28
just want to say this is a painted metal so it's a really nice finish. It does not look like some
4:34
cheap plastic or something and obviously this particular light this is the GT-LT005 gooseneck
4:43
light and this one is a little bit different design and the controls on the stem are definitely
4:49
different. Let's see what's happening here. I might have to turn this upside down for a moment
4:54
So again we have that with the wire coming out the side but this one at least in the pictures
5:02
it's supposed to look like that so that's promising. So now we have this and then this
5:09
is the power for the light and then all we have to do is add the base. So let's see what's going
5:14
on with the base. Here's the base and it is small and thin and surprisingly heavy
5:21
and I believe it just goes ahead and screws on. Let's see what happens
5:30
See now this base doesn't have any design that suggests that the wire should go through so
5:37
this is definitely all as I expect. I have it all screwed together and this one is not as tall
5:48
so there we go. It is a nice gooseneck so you can really sort of monkey around with the angles
5:54
and you can see honestly that's full assembly and that took me what 90 seconds so you can do it
6:01
You can build one of these lights. So let's see I'm going to just get the power
6:07
and they use different transformers which is interesting. They're both 9 volt AC. I just happen to have a power plug here so I'll plug this in and then let's plug this
6:18
into the bottom and now we have all these controls on the stem. The top one is power so let's turn it on
6:27
and let's see what's happening here. So we have power, we have five levels of brightness
6:37
I don't see anything happening. Demos. It's always like this. Oh there we go. I think I was just pushing it wrong
6:48
Okay so now we have the light on. I think I just need to learn the sensitivity of their touch controls and then we have brightness
6:58
And then what's cool is not only does it have the five levels of brightness like this light
7:04
but it has temperature settings so you can choose from 3000 to 4000 to what's the third one is 6000
7:14
kelvin. So as you can see this is a very blue light so this is great for daytime and then if
7:21
So this is great for daytime and then if you're reading at night change that to a warmer yellowy orange light and that's less blue light so it's less likely
7:31
to interfere with your sleep patterns and everything. So really nice. Obviously you're
7:36
going to have it angled like this or something and that's this light so feels like it might
7:41
need a little bit of tightening but three controls on the stem. The base does have the
7:47
wire coming out before you hit the base. It is nice and stable. You're seeing it wobble because
7:53
I did that but now it's back to normal and highly flexible which is really nice. You can angle it
8:00
just like you want and those are the two lights. So Gladle has a floor lamp that gives you that
8:06
tilt which is nice and it's much taller and then they have this gooseneck reading lamp
8:12
and they're both surprisingly inexpensive. They both come in black or white. Now let me get to
8:18
the prices but before I get to the price let me ask if you can subscribe to my channel
8:22
I really appreciate when you do that and it's really a great thing for both of us. So little
8:27
red box on the lower right click or tap and boom you're subscribed. Great. Okay this light, the floor
8:35
lamp is the Gladle GT-LT009 and it is $50.99 in black or if you like white it's $47.99 in white
8:48
Why they're different prices I cannot explain. And then this is the GT-LT005 Gooseneck Reading Lamp
8:57
and this is in black or white the same price $44.99. All of them are available on Amazon
9:05
and I'm very glad to get these into our house because we need some more light and I need to
9:11
like get a little bit of illumination in this corner here but otherwise pretty nice stuff and
9:16
super easy to assemble. Don't be daunted by the fact that it says customer assembly required
9:21
as you saw pretty straightforward task. Anyway that's all I got so I'll hope to see you in my next video
