Cases for the Apple AirPods. Let's check them out
0:10
Dave Taylor here with my Apple AirPods. These are the first generation. So no wireless charging
0:17
no active noise control. Not much really fancy, just solid, straightforward wireless Bluetooth
0:22
headphones or earbuds, as I like to call them. But I have these and my kids have the same
0:29
things, which means they all look alike, which means it's really hard to differentiate
0:35
And when they're all sitting in the same charging area and that people are taking turns
0:39
charging them up, it's pretty easy to pick up the wrong ones. So I tried to convince my kids
0:44
we could put stickers on them, we could do permanent marker, but they weren't big fans. So I thought
0:50
all right, plan B, let's get some cases for the Apple AirPods. Turns out there are a ton of choices
0:56
and the price range goes from ridiculously inexpensive to still pretty darn inexpensive
1:02
So I got three to look at. Starting with the least expensive, these are the DTGU AirPods case
1:10
and they are striking with their two-tone design. We'll get back to those
1:15
And then stepping up a little bit on price, but not a lot, are the music tracker AirPods case
1:21
And these come in a remarkable number of colors. I think it's like 25 different colors
1:26
colors. So if you can't find your favorite color, you might have an overly nuanced color choice
1:31
But I want to say this too, right at the front, is that these, I'm listing Music Tracker and
1:37
DTGU, and they're just distributors. These are made in China. And I think the way it works is that
1:43
different distributors have different turns or something, because both of these, when I bought them
1:48
just a few weeks prior to this video, they were from different distributors. But when I went to
1:53
Amazon, it says you purchase this product even though it's from a different distributor
1:58
So maybe the distributor changed its name. I don't know. The good news is that at the bottom of
2:03
this video in the description, I have links directly to these products if you want to check
2:07
them out. And that way you'll be sure to look at the same product I'm looking at
2:12
even though the distributor might change their name again. Interesting, right? So the third one
2:18
is from a company that's not going to change their name. This is the Subcase Unicorn Beetle Pro
2:23
Why do they call things Unicorn Beetle from that company? I still don't know, but whatever, right
2:28
This is actually a really cool little case. It looks like a teeny tiny little suitcase
2:33
And this side even has the company branding on it. So very nice. A little bit more expensive
2:38
But let's start with the least expensive of the options. And what I'm going to look at is I'm going to look at how easy it is to put on
2:45
whether you can charge it, whether the top stays on, and then how easy it is to take off
2:50
And one of these products has a bit of a reputation. for being hard to take off. So I'm hoping we will not end up in a bit of a pickle. So this one
3:00
we're starting with the DTGU AirPod's case and it has the two-tone look. It has five different
3:07
combinations you can get. And as you can see from me putting it on, let's see, I think that's right
3:14
It's super easy to deal with and it's on. And there's a little cutout on the back that makes the hinge
3:19
work a little better. So easy to work with. like the top is coming off a little bit but I think let see Sometimes with these thermoplastic polyurethane type products you have to sort of push them down a little bit So there I think that better So it stays on
3:41
It's very attractive. It comes with this handy and, I'm sorry, keychain hook. So the little teeny thing
3:48
you're going to struggle with and you'll get it through the hole on the side and then you can clip it
3:53
to your backpack or something, I would put it in something, because if something failed and I lost my AirPods
3:59
I would be sad. These are expensive. But if you like that idea or you wanna just hook them
4:04
to something by the side of your computer at work or something, then that would definitely be a great solution
4:09
In terms of the cutout on the bottom for the cable, it's actually a perfect size
4:14
I just happen to have a lightning cable. I will test it, and it obviously plugs in perfectly well
4:19
It's actually a very well designed, and the price is created. I'm going to hold off and talk about the prices at the very end, but this is less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks
4:30
And as you can see, it's nice. And if you get each of your kids a different color scheme, then it's a little more protection, which is nice
4:38
And it's obviously super easy to differentiate who's is whose is who's. So win-win
4:43
Final test, can you take it off? And the answer is, ha-zah, you can take it off
4:48
That is such a relief. always fear with like phone cases or something that is going to get stuck and I'm going to end up breaking the phone taking it off
4:56
Sounds crazy, but you probably don't take your case off very often so you don't really necessarily understand what it's like to be testing stuff
5:05
So this is number two. It says on the packaging that it's a case, but in fact, and it comes from P and you, right
5:14
But no, this comes from a distributor called Music Tracker. And these include the special anti-lost carabiner
5:22
So, you know, in case you're worrying about losing it, you can use that. You could just call it a carabiner
5:28
You could call it a clip, whatever you want. Same basic function. Now, this is a little different because it's one piece
5:34
So the hinge is actually built in so you can't lose the top
5:38
though whether it stays on is something we'll have to see. One thing I will say for these guys is it comes in a ton of colors
5:44
This thing has about 25 different colors. So whatever your favorite color is, you're going to get pretty darn close with their options, which is nice
5:53
And the AirPods fit in nice and smoothly. The top goes on
5:58
And voila. It's very nice looking. It opens. It closes. And it doesn't feel like it's going to go anywhere, which is nice
6:06
Will it charge? Well, that's interesting because on the bottom, there's actually a little cover that covers your port, and you can push it into the lightning port
6:17
Well, maybe I've done this before. There we go. So you can push it into the lightning port and that gives it some protection
6:23
But this does not make it waterproof or anything because there's still a gap around the edge of this
6:29
So it's not intended to be like a hermetically sealed product or something
6:33
But it does protect your lightning port. When you're ready to charge, you can pop this off
6:38
You put the cable in. There's obviously a huge amount of space on the bottom and you're good to go
6:43
So nice, easy, straightforward. you can hook the carabiner up directly to the edge It a bit bigger which is nice And then will it come off Well let see Again it the thermoplastic polyurethane so it soft easy to work with so it easy to take off Which brings us to our third choice which is the subcase Unicorn Beetle Pro hard shell TPU or thermoplastic polyurethane case
7:16
And this is actually really fun. It's a really fun little case, and it comes in four really nice colors
7:22
There's a dark green, this is the blue, and there's red, and there's black
7:27
and all of them are very striking. Now, the back has a little bit of a cutout on the bottom
7:34
and that's where we want the back of the case to be so that it opens and closes
7:38
And then here's the problematic piece. What people say on Amazon is that once you put the top on
7:45
you might not be able to get it off so easily. So I can feel it's a pretty tight fit on the top
7:51
So I'm not going to put it on all the way because I do want to be able to take it off
7:55
So that's something you're going to want to consider is that if you want to switch cases a lot, then this is something where the top feels like it's a super snug fit
8:05
So it's going to be tricky to take that off again. But for most people, there's probably not an issue at all
8:11
In fact, it's a positive because once you put this thing in the case, you want it to be in the case forever, right
8:17
So, no worries about that in terms of overall. Now, the look, the design, the protection for my product, all really excellent
8:27
see it's easy to work with it opens and closes I would not have this white gap if I actually
8:33
pushed it all the way down but I have to use these AirPods for other things so I'm not going to
8:38
actually do that and let's see there is a tiny little hole for the light this is the only one of
8:45
the three that actually recognizes there is a charging light however I don't think the charging
8:50
light is actually right there which is kind of interesting let me pull the iPod air pods out again
8:56
No, I guess that's the right place. So they did get that right. So, yeah, it's so snug
9:01
I can hear the air as it actually gets pushed in. So that's pretty impressive
9:07
And then on the bottom, they have a nice big cutout. So there's no problems whatsoever with charging it
9:14
Voila, nice and easy. And yes, it does also come with a carabiner
9:20
And this is actually a little more heavy duty. So between the two, you have a pretty solid protection
9:26
And, you know, really, it's almost overkill, almost. But it's definitely distinctive
9:32
And if you're the one that has your AirPods in this case, then no one will confuse them for anyone else's AirPods
9:39
I'm a big fan, actually, of the subcase cases because I just like their sort of tough, rugged design
9:45
Very attractive. Now, this one, like I said, it's a hard shell outside, and there's a thermoplastic polyurethane on the inside, includes the carabiner, comes in four different colors
9:55
which means that we have two things left. One, to take the case off
10:00
And even there, even without pushing it on a lot, it's still clearly going to be a very snug fit
10:09
So that is something that you do want to take into account. And then the bottom, since I could access the plug
10:16
I could just pull it out. Easy enough, voila. AirPods are entirely intact
10:22
Haza! Which means all this left to top. talk about really is the price And before we get to the price I going to ask if you can subscribe to my channel I really appreciate when you subscribe and leave me comment and feedbacks If you have AirPods which hopefully you do then let me know do you have a case
10:39
Do you have a sticker? There's various skins you can get for them, or do you just have yours pristine white
10:45
so that it just looks like pretty much everyone else's Apple AirPods? So now, let's go through the prices
10:51
So starting with the least expensive, this is the DTGU AirPods case
10:59
Link in the video description, and this comes in five different two-tone options, and it is including shipping $3.54
11:08
That's what I said. It's less than the cost of a cup of coffee at Starbucks, and an entirely functional solution
11:14
Then, stepping up a little bit on price is the one piece, also soft, you know, sort of flexible protection of the music tracker AirPods case
11:24
It comes in a ton of different colors, and it is $6.70 at $1.70 at L
11:29
Amazon. In fact, all of these are accessible through Amazon.com. Should have probably said that
11:34
That price might vary slightly because, again, when I went back on Amazon and looked, I saw that it had gone up like 45 cents
11:42
So still, $6, $7, somewhere around there, very, very inexpensive for protection for your Apple AirPods
11:49
And then finally, the top line here, and I can't believe how inexpensive this is for being top of the line
11:57
This is the subcase Unicorn Beetle Pro, four different colors. It is 1899 at Amazon.com
12:05
And if I had to choose between all of these, you know, it's a tough call
12:10
But I think if I was just looking for the least expensive solution, then there's a lot to like about this
12:16
And for the price, it's kind of crazy painless. I mean, for four bucks, you can use it
12:20
And after a week, you say, nah, and you toss it, whatever is $4, right
12:25
But if you're looking for something that's a solution for the lifetime of your Apple AirPods
12:30
and you're not planning on taking it off again, and you're not planning on doing anything other than having this on forever
12:36
then there's a lot to like about this subcase Unicorn Beetle Pro
12:39
It is obviously bigger. It obviously takes your slim little Apple AirPods and makes them a bigger, chunkier device
12:47
But boy, there's a lot of protection going on here. And I just really like the design
12:52
To me, it's just teeny tiny little suitcase. I just expect a little handle to come out and little tiny wheels and then you can actually wheel your AirPods along
13:01
Maybe that's just how I look at things. But in any case, that's some choices
13:05
There are way more choices if you want to look on Amazon or eBay or Alibaba or any of those
13:11
There are a ton of companies making these. And I got to say, this is a really great device and it is a good, solid, protective case
13:19
But there ain't nothing wrong with adding another case on top of this to make it even more protected
13:24
last even longer. So that's all I got. I think I'm going to put it back into this one
13:30
which means that as soon as I'm done, which will take like one more second, there we go
13:36
that means my AirPods are ready to roll and that means I'll catch you, I hope, in my next video
